We have Weather Shield Visions 2000 windows that were installed in our house when built in 1997. Over the winter the interior vinyl trim cracked and peeled, I believe their term is glazing trim. We have copy of the original warranty that clearly states that hardware and vinyl have a lifetime warranty in the original structure to which installed and to the original owner when of structure when installed. We meet both these criteria.I contacted Weather Shield via email 4/27/2025 and sent a copy of the warranty since they have previously tried not honor hardware warranty. They responded that the windows have a 20-year warranty which is expired. Reviewing the warranty shows that the insulated glass has a 20-year warranty, but hardware and vinyl have a lifetime warranty as stated above.I have tried to contact them 3 more times, 4/28/205, 4/30/2025 and 5/5/2025, to dispute this, but they are no longer responding. I would like for this company to stand up and honor their warranty. Send replacement trim, or if no longer available, appropriate compensation, which would likely have to be a replacement window.

We have reviewed the photo provided.  Unfortunately, it is not very clear, but it does show a jagged break.  Something had to impact this portion of the window to cause this.  This is not a case of peeling, where the vinyl separates in layers.  This is not a warrantable issue.

With the age of the window we no longer have any of the glazing stop available to replace the one damaged in the picture.  Unfortunately, there is nothing further we can do concerning this issue.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

This is a different response than they originally sent. The original response was that it was out of warranty, which was incorrect. Now that I filed a complaint, the response has changed to it not being a warrantable issue. The vinyl cracked, flaked and a piece fell off. I didn't see it happen, I saw it after the fact. Perhaps ice buildup caused it? It gets quite cold and ice does form on the inside of these windows in the coldest weather.   They state the piece is no longer available. That means their warranty is worthless as they can't honor it. They made the warranty, they should make it right.

We built our home in 2002 in the ******* (Zone 5). About ***** years ago, a few of the windows started showing condensation between the panes. Aside of our frustration, we were hoping for the best it would go away. It progressively got worse and started affecting many of our other windows (especially those in the front of the house, with afternoon sun). In addition, the window seals have since deteriorated in all the windows, so can always expect draft and noise in windy conditions, and moisture inside the windows to the casement. We have since started to look at replacement windows because the windows are an embarrassment and insulation has been degraded. In shopping around, I was surprised, but more upset, that Weathershield's products have been facing lawsuits nationwide for the last ***** years and we didn't hear anything about it. Until now, which is 22 years since we built. We haven't spoken to a Weathershield dealer yet but are contemplating setting up an appointment with the dealer in ********* (40 min away) to 'see what they will do.' Knowing after 22 years, we have little leverage, this is why I'm reaching out to you. We are still looking at Weathershield (with the assumption) they still have the same window 'sizes' for replacement but not without them meeting us on a fair price since we are now forced to replace our windows because of their failed product(s). I've listed $20,000 but that's a guesstimate on a fair portion (%) of the replacement costs for our windows. Our home is assessed at $575,000 but we would not be able to sell it today because of our windows! I've attached a few pics of our windows but can/will certainly provide more, including whatever I can find on window specs, Window #'s, purchase back in 2002, dealer we purchased from, etc. If you don't feel we have a valid claim given the timeline, that's fine. Just let us know. Thank you in advance for your review and help. I just wish I would have known about the lawsuits 10 years ago!

      Mr. *****,

What you have happening to your windows is called seal failure.  The warranty covering your windows covers seal failure for 20 years from the date of manufacture. Unfortunately, you are beyond this so there is no warranty coverage for what is happening.

I could not tell from the pictures which exact windows you have in your home.  If you do not want to replace the entire window you may want to investigate a local supplier for a glass or sash replacement.  This is much less invasive to you home and general a faster process.

      *****,

Thank you for the response. I did review the warranty and understand the 20 year window. What I'd like to know from Weathershield is when multiple lawsuits were brought to the Company's attention (around *********?) because your windows were failing at an excessive rate, what communications were sent out by Weather Shield to notify their customers of these lawsuits and to offer a recall/replacement of those windows 'already purchased but found to be faulty'? I'm sure you're aware of and have been a recipient of other company recalls who have 'proactively' reached out to a current customers to make them aware and offer a recall/replacement. Can you proviide any evidence to me that Weather Shield sent out any informative recall or replacement communications to any existing customers so they could have appropriately addressed these issues in a more timely manner and within the terms of your warranty protection? As I stated in my complaint, these seal failures started occurring about 8 - 10 years after they were installed. It would have been nice to have been made aware of these quality issues at or around the same time the Company was made aware. I'll look for your response on what actions Weather Shield took to make their existing customers aware they were sold a sub-part product that was going to fail.

      Regards,

I purchased all Replacement Crestline Vinyl Clad windows for my home from Menards 2/24/2017. Since than I have had issues develop such as frost between the windows, fog within the window panes. I contacted Crestline for warranty information. **** ***** states only the window glass is covered, not the repair of the window unit. The window came as a complete unit assembled. I didn't receive the unit in pieces and than I assembled it! The instructions state the a professional window repair person should complete this job. Meaning it's the responsibility of the home owner to pay for that repair of a defective window. Here is the problem numerous lawsuits are in effect over Crestline defects in the windows. Crestline has since stop manufacturing defective vinyl clad windows. Crestline offers to send replacement windows but without any compensation for the repairs. So with that said, I would like a complete refund on all windows so I don't have to deal with Crestline again. This business produced a bad product and doesn't stand behind it. If this was a car there would have been a recall on a product this bad! I've had problems from day one. I have a receipt showing payout because of bad ******* ship. The pictures are just a few. If you want all of them I will send.

I don't see in the warranty why I have to support the repair bill of a window that has known lawsuits filed in court. As well that warranty was changed after the bad window reflected a costly mistake to the business. So they sold that branch of vinyl clad windows. Just because you built a poorly designed window, doesn't mean the consumer should have to pick up any expenses.

I have a 6 year old home with weathershield windows and doors. over the first 6 years 2 of the door units lost their theral integrity resulting in fog and moisture between the glass. They sent glass under warranty but I had to hire someone to install them. Now I have another window doing the same thing. I contacted the *** 3 1/2 months ago but still have ne resolution. The dealer I originally bought them from no longer sells them because of poor warranty performance.

In May 2023 we ordered Weather Shield (WS) windows & sliding doors through ****** ****************************** We ordered a standard size from the catalog which included screens. Deposit of $64,945 was paid in May 2023, balance, $63,760, paid in Sept 2023 and windows and doors (without screens) were delivered Sept 2023 and installed Oct 2023. In Jun 2024 the screens were delivered. ****** installed the window screens, but, they did not install the sliding door screens stating they had no idea how to install them. Our GC (**** *****) contacted **** **** **** for ******) who contacted **** ******, a service *** for WS. When **** came out (a couple weeks later), he indicated that the framing would need to be modified for the screens. Apparently, these screens are installed on the inside (not on the outside as we expected) and require special framing during the construction process. He stated this requirement should have been communicated to us by ******. Per discussion with **** at ******, this requirement for special framing was unknown to ******. Additionally, the installation instructions make no note of special framing required. At this point, in order to install the screens, we would need to cut into the dry wall and install a large bracket on the interior that would extend from the wall several inches. Additionally, since these screens will extend inward a few inches, they will interfere with any blinds installed on the interior. When our GC talked to **** regarding returning the screens and getting a refund, **** indicated he understood the issue would pursue a return and refund with Weather Shield. Our GC has called **** several times since July, however **** indicates that he is not receiving any response from WS. We will need to pay for an alternative solution to have screens installed. We simply would like to return the screens and receive a refund. The screens are not custom built & they are still in the original packaging and are unopened.

At Weather Shield Windows and Doors we make every effort to provide our customers the information they need to successfully install and use our windows and doors.  To that end we try to notify everyone when something in the order may different or need attention.  If you notice at the bottom of the attached page from our customers order there is a notice calling attention to a change in rough opening size being caused by ordering the screen with the door.  We also have available drawing illustrating what is required.

Each Centor screen is make to order to fit the door it is matched to.  For this reason there are no returns available for these screens.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 22278020, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

      I appreciate the response from
Weather Shield.  However, I would like to
      provide some additional information.  I
have attached 4 pages of installation details available to our general
contractor and you will see there is no mention of the screen installation in
      these details.  The information provided
by Weather Shield is dated October 2023.
As I stated in my original complaint the windows were ordered in May
2023 and delivered in September 2023.  The
information provided by Weather Shield was created after the windows were delivered.   (Please note I only provided 4 of the 5 pages of installation details since I am limited to 5 total attachments.  The 5th page was installation for brick exterior and also includes no mention of the screens.)
      I have also
attached an email from The Weather Shield Territory Manager, Ryan Bittner.  Please note that Ryan is amenable to
providing a future discount to our GC.  This
seems to acknowledge that there were challenges with the screens.  And….why is Weather Shield willing to do a
future discount but not a current credit?
      Again I would like
to point out that Weather Shield continues to state that this is a “custom”
order.  While I understand that the
screens are not manufactured until an order is placed, our order is not a “custom”
order.  We chose a standard size offered
      in the catalog.

Weather Shield Window manufactured windows and doors and provided screen for the order.  The windows, doors and screen were made specifically per the order.  All products have been delivered.

Somewhere during the construction of the home the rough opening requirements of the screen system was overlooked.   This resulted in the screens not fitting in the home as originally built.   Weather Shield did not take part in the building of the home.  The rough opening requirement were provided.  The fact that the opening in question are not to the correct size is not the responsibility of Weather Shield.

The screens are made specifically to each door they are ordered with.  They are not an off the shelf item that can simply be returned.

For these reasons Weather Shield will not be providing any refund.

I have a Weathershield french door with sidelites and a transom installed in my house in 2018. Every time it rains onto my doors it leaks inside of my house. Weathershield has sent a tech twice to my house to try to repair the problem in 2021 and 2022, but it still persisted. In March of 2023 I contacted weathershield again with the same problem. I sent them pictures and videos of where it was leaking from and how much. In the videos you can see that it is not an install error, but a manufacturing error. They suggested some ideas to try to fix the problem, but it still leaks. I have had to replace my wood flooring and I dread it every time that it rains. Since April of ********************************************************************** I have additional pictures and videos that can be provided.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  I have completed the caulking around the sidelites where I was told to and the doors continue to leak. I should not have to caulk the entire perimeter of the window and door where the weather stripping is. That is the point of weatherstripping. For the sidelites caulk will work because they are stationary, but if I do that to my door it will not function like a door. I would not be able to open them without messing the caulk up every time.

I ordered windows for our new home from ************ on (approx)Feb 26, 2021 and paid with the Menards ********************* credit card). The windows were delivered to my home on 11/11/2021 and were installed the very next day. Three of the windows had broken or missing locks and one of the windows had a broken spring. This caused an immediate concern about the quality of the windows and I went into the local store on Monday Nov 15th and spoke to *********************** (local Menards Manager). He advised me to put everything into an email form which was done the next day Nov 16th 2021. Menards contacted Crestline which is the manufacturer and WeatherShield MFG. **** is the parent company the way I understand it. Crestline has sent a technician to my home on 3 occasions to repair broken springs and locks and a cracked vinyl frame. The windows that were purchased were special ordered from ************ The windows have oversized window panes which makes them heavier than a normal window. These windows are double hung, tilt sash windows that just means that both the top and bottom panes will raise/lower and both will tilt in for easy cleaning. The windows are so heavy that the springs will not hold them. Crestline has now gone out of business of manufacturing windows and cannot supply the parts to repair or fix our windows. They made us an offer of $14,162 through WeatherShield Mfg which is a warranty buyout of the windows. This offer came with a deadline of acceptance that expired on July 22, 2023. I do not understand how a warranty can have a deadline put on it when the warranty is still in effect. Anyway, I felt that since I purchased the windows from Menards that I should be dealing with them instead of the manufacturer. I sent a complaint to *********** headquarters on July 18th. I received a letter in the mail from them on July 24th that was dated July 20th that they were not responsible as they were just a retailer and that if I had any further complaint that I would need to direct that to WeatherShield Mfg. Here is what I had asked for. I was willing to accept the warranty buyout offer however that in itself did not return me to the original position I was before purchasing these windows.Obviously these windows are not functional and we cannot even open the windows in our new home without fear of them breaking and coming apart. I asked to be reimbursed for the labor that I paid to install the faulty windows and for the labor to remove the windows that have been installed. That would return me to the position I was in before purchasing these faulty windows. That labor comes is $400/window. ($7600) Total settlement sought. $21,162

We purchased 43 windows through Menards with a lifetime guarantee from Crestline Windows on 11/15/2021 but windows were not installed until 9/22/2022, with all the manufacturing delays ******* was enduring, while building our home. We moved into our home in December of 2022 and wanting to remove the stickers from the windows opened this one to find it split apart. I have been trying to work with this company since January 2023 with no resolution. Except to receive this repair kit on 5/9/2023 from Crestline Windows through ***** of screws and metal strips to repair this brand new guaranteed for life window myself! This is an unsatisfactory response from this company. I want a new window or at least for them to pay to have it professionally repaired. I'm not a repair man! I have all of my emails and forms that I filed out with them on file if needed.

When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.

BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.

As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
