      Midwest Dental was acquired by Smile Brands 12/20, but they don’t want the public to know that for some reason (there’s a public announcement). Billed our insurance a higher amount than what was on our daughters billing statement. Then gave me a dismissal letter from the “CEO”, but he’s not the CEO of Smile Brands, he’s the VP of Clinical Support. It’s a shame the Midwest Dental wanted to engage in questionable billing after being a patient there for 20 years. Additionally, they were charging Delta Dental patients $12 PPE fees when they had a legal contract with Delta Dental saying they would waive that fee. Our local office became upset when I found this contract and brought it to their attention.

      My son is 27 and started going to a local dentist on my own recommendation. When the dentist retired, the practice was taken over by Mondovi. Now I've gotten three bills from them for my adult son's appointment. He thinks he paid the bill but keeps forgetting to check on it. I've heard terrible things about Mondovi, so I shouldn't be surprised that they'd bill a grown man's mother just to get cash that they might not even have owed to them. By the way, they also have "quick pay" all over the bill, with various ways to pay the bill quickly. Yeah, before you realize it's not even your bill, they probably hope. One other complaint and that is to the BBB, which has become notoriously generous towards companies with its ratings. ******* has a rating of 1.08 out of 5, yet it has an A- BBB rating. Why???? A review rating that low should bring their rating down to at least a B, and that's assuming all else is excellent.

      My apologies that mom was receiving statements for her adult child. I believe the confusion comes in when adult children are covered on a parent's health insurance until age 26. The adult child should have been placed on his own account at age 18 but wasn't. This has been rectified and the adult child will now be billed. Thank you.

      Merit Dental in ************, **** sends incorrect bills to former patients. We have not visited the practice for at least a year and a half (the quality of care dropped significantly when the former dentists sold their practice). In January 2023, we received a bill with no DOS, no name of the patient and what services were for. I called and was told that due to their error, they never submitted the claim to our former dental insurance. They told me they "would write it off" as it was their mistake. I even called the Mondovi, WI headquarters and was told the same response. Now in March 2023, I get another bill for the same thing (no date of service, no name of patient and what services were for). I have called the AG Office in ******** as I am concerned there billing practices aren't ethical. I think it's likely they forgot to bill our insurance and now are coming after people for their mistakes. Beware and don't get services done from this practice!!!

      Our District Manager called the customer to apologize and let her know that her account balance had been adjusted off. The insurance claim had not been followed up due to Covid.

      Midwest dental in ******** ** is a terrible place to go. They are unkind and they all have rbf and are unapproachable.They need to fully explain that their initial bill is an estimate and that your insurance may not pay all of it. Especially when one comes in with concerns about being able to pay the bill.

      Patient nor her daughter were seen 3 years ago and insurance benefits covered 100% leaving them with an out of pocket expense of zero. I am unsure what the customer review is referring to. Thank you.

      I am being forced to find a dentist out of network with my insurance because I was discriminated against at the local office. I have a medical exemption so they will not allow me in the waiting room. They were rude to me on more than one visit to their office.

      I have no good things to say about Mondovi Dental. They repeatedly engaged in misrepresentative and likely, fraudulent, behavior. Not only did they cycle through dentists (I must have had over 4 different dentists over the course of the year), but they would consistently assign me a dentist who was not in network with my insurance. It did not matter how often I called my insurance to confirm that a dentist was in network or how often I checked in with the receptionists ahead of my appointments. They would always tell me as I was coming to my appointment and being introduced to yet another dentist, "Doctor *** is in the process of being registered with your insurance. If you receive a bill, don't pay it. We will resubmit the claim after they are registered". I was consistently exhausted by their antics and also fell stuck due to a lengthy year long root canal process. In the midst of working multiple jobs, completing school, and surviving a pandemic, after awhile the routine phone calls with my insurance company drained me. The most egregious act came when they hit me with the same stunt, this time for the $1200+ root canal. They never got the dentist registered with my insurance and then, they mysteriously closed. I received an automated phone call a few days before my follow up appointment saying it had been cancelled and then a letter telling me the office had permanently closed- a week after its closing date. I could no longer contact the receptionist to clarify the bill, my insurance had no interest in reconciling with me, and I am reminded of this by the letters from HQ asking me to pay a debt they fraudulently charged me. Don't come here even if you are desperate. An awful, soul-draining experience here is the rule, not the exception. And if you have a life to lead, there's no way you have time to deal with their mismanagement and you shouldn't be expected to.

      I went to Mondovi in Yarmouth on Nov 1, 2022. The dentist there was a temp, filling in for Dr Julia ******, the best dentist I have had here in Cape Cod. Unfortunately, she has left the practice of dentistry. I had lost a filling and had another area that looked like decay, so dental intervention was needed. Neither the assistant nor the dentist asked whether my health had changed in a year, or was I taking any meds. An X-ray was taken. The dentist proceeded to examine my mouth and the 2 areas in question. He seemed reluctant to do ANYTHING for me, stating that the lost filling “could” be replaced if I wanted. And the other area of decay, he would not fill because the tooth was “hopeless”. We are talking about tooth #9, one of my front teeth, which has had some bone loss, but it is NOT mobile nor is it causing me any problems. It is totally functional. Of course I wanted the lost filling replaced, why was I there? But I was shocked to hear a dentist state he would not do a filling for a patient. I was a dental hygienist for 38 years, and I have seen and heard a lot. But I don’t think I ever heard a dentist refuse to do a filling for a patient. And now I am in a quandary about what to do about the decay on the lingual of #9. Let the tooth just rot away? What kind of dentistry is being practiced that the patient is left with a dental problem that she went to have resolved? I am extremely disappointed in Mondovi dental, and especially the dentist who did not fulfill [in my opinion] his obligation to a patient.

      I actually had to get a lawyer to stop them from trying to bill me for monies that I did not owe. They took over our old dentist office, and showed such disregard for long standing customers. I had an ongoing issue with them for over a year. Unreturned messages and blatant disregard for my requests for billing details. Being told well you just owe it… Instead of justifying it with numbers that made sense is not a way to keep customers. I am not the only one who has had difficulty dealing with our local office and I will never ever recommend them again.
