On August 2 Chimneys Plus installed a new chimney. I received no communication from them after the chimney was installed except for my invoice of $740 through the mail, after having already paid them a down payment of $740. When the roofing company came on August 12 to install my new shingles, they discovered the chimney was not finished. There was no rain collar or furnace boot and flimsy flashing around the new chimney. They (************************* from ********) called **** to ask him to drop off the required equipment to finish the job. **** had the rain collar and furnace boot dropped off and said it was an inconvenience. ******** finished the job for me. After learning of this, I called **** to express my displeasure with him for not finishing the job correctly and not even communicating to me that he hadn't finished the job. I barely was able to start my conversation with him and he immediately began to tell me that I had been taken advantage of by ******** . "They were con men and you had been taken." (Ridgetop is not licensed for chimney replacement and does not even have the necessary equipment to do this job.) I was hoping to ask him about a price reduction since I was paying him for a job that another company had to finish. But he continued to talk over me and I was unable to say much. I did tell him that he was a jerk and I would certainly not recommend this company. He replied "Do what you want, Sweetheart. Have a great day!" He then hung up on me. I feel it would have cost me $300-$400 more to get another company to come out and finish the chimney installation. I have not as yet sent the final payment to Chimneys Plus (another $740) and would like a price adjustment. I also am unclear on the warranty for the chimney since he didn't finish the job. An apology for abhorrent customer interaction from **** would also be appreciated.

Regarding the complaint received from *****************************, when we accepted her contract to complete the chimney install, ****** was immediate dissatisfied with the fact that we had once offered to complete both her roof replacement along with installing the chimney at a bundled deal, but when she separated it and did not qualify for the bundled price, she at that point had the choice to not hire us, but chose to for the price quoted.  When ************************* from ******** called to work through the partnership of Ridgetop completing the roof, and Chimneys Plus completing the chimney install, **** said ******** would complete the flashing because if Chimneys Plus installed it, they would have to uninstall the flashing to complete the roof replacement and then reinstall the flashing on top of the shingles, which he said would be more work for their company.  We agreed to these terms and did our part of the chimney install.  Afterwards we contacted **** to let him know our part of the project was complete and that Ridgetop could take over the remaining components of the project from there.  When they began the roof replacement, **** called and asked why there was no flashing there.  We told him it was per our phone conversation and if it was now a matter of misunderstanding of who provide the flashing, instead of just who installed it, we could understand the confusion.  However, **** insisted that our conversation never took place.  Even though we were frustrated, we still dropped everything and brought the flashing and storm collar, which means we provided everything and did every aspect of the job we were hired to do.  Another part of ****'s argument on the phone of why they couldn't do the flashing part, was because they weren't licensed.  This is ridiculous.  You are either a licensed contractor and all of these bases are covered or you are not a licensed contractor and have no business even putting shingles down.  There is no special license for this flashing, and **** knows it, and since it was the second lie we caught him in, we wanted him to know that he was a con man.  No other company finished installing the chimney so the hypothetical of it costing $300-$400 to do this is irrelevant.  We provided all material, removed the old chimney and installed the new chimney, and had to deal with the inconvenience of an unscrupulous roofer, and therefore completed our part of the bargain.  The remaining $740 balance remains the same.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Chimneys Plus never resolved my question  about the warranty.  Is it still covered and if so, for how long?

I have attached a text screen shot between the 2 companies showing the work was not fully completed on August 2.

    Regards,
