I bought a 2005 Audi A4 convertible at the Kissimmee auction in January, 2023. I paid way too much for the car. That's on me. But, I expected "garage kept" in the ad to be a one or at worst a two owner car But the car has had five owners and mileage was not listed in the online ad. it has 104k miles on the clock. And it said garage kept!! By all five owners? Not credible. "Garage kept" led me to believe that the car was in great shape. The interior is trashed. Carpet and leather seats need total replacement. The front end is so unwieldy that I was fearful to drive it. Maybe it just needs tires balanced. But I found out today that he wheels are not original to the car and could be warped, but no mention is made in the car fax report of wheel replacement. No mention of a timing belt replacement is mentioned either, but should have been done at 75000 miles. The convertible top is torn and needs replacing immediately. This "garage kept" car is not that at all.....unless the garage had no roof. I bought this car for my wife as a valentine's gift for her to drive in the summer and at our lakehouse to and from the grocery store. It is going to cost me 10000 dollars to make it something worth giving to her. I still haven't had the nerve to tell her what i have done. I expected Mecum to be a total disclosure company. In this case not so. My novice bidder and my trust in Mecum was misplaced. Buyer beware at Mecum. My inexperience has soured me on auctions generally and on Mecum specifically.

We worked with the Seller of the vehicle. He refunded the Buyer $2,000 towards repairing the vehicles and Mecum Auctions refunded $2,000 as a customer courtesy even though it was sold as-is where-is.

I've been a Mecum auction customer as both buyer and seller for more than ten years. What all of these negative reviews on BBB have in common are the inexperience of the people complaining. Buying (or selling) a car or motorcycle at auction requires research and knowledge of the particular lot in question, and just a casual look at the lot will never suffice as educated intelligent bidding judgment. Know what you're doing, or get advice from the experts. At Mecum auctions, there's more knowledge in the room about cars and motorcycles on offer than you can ever imagine. Most of the time the consignors are available as well, but you must make an effort to contact them on-site. This can be done simply by leaving your phone number on the vehicle and asking to have them call you prior to the trip across the auction block. Many times it's best if they meet you in the paddock to answer your questions. Just remember ignorance is your worst enemy at an auction.Mecum auctions offer great opportunities to the collector vehicle community. They're not dishonest by any stretch of the imagination. They have a sterling reputation for a reason, and they work to maintain it if you just communicate your legitimate problem in a timely manner. The more knowledge you have before you even get to the auction, the less likely it is that you'll find yourself writing a One Star review. 99% of these people have only themselves to blame. Mecum Auctions has nothing to gain by being dishonest in any way, you can take that to the bank. This business depends totally on the trust and confidence of the collector community and they're not going to do anything to jeopardize that confidence.

I bought a MH 33 Diesel at your Moline auction 11/18/22 for my dad to ride in our local tractor drives because he had one when he was a teenager. The review said it was restored and listed many other features. It was clean and started up immediately when I picked it up. It had oil pressure when I started it and it went down slightly as I was loading it. There was no oil on it when I loaded it which meant someone knew about the problem and had to have cleaned it up. After getting it home the next day and noticing the oil leak, I was unable to check the radiator fluid because it was to low to get a sample. I filled it up to where I could get a sample and as soon as I started the tractor it blew it all out immediately. Someone had to clean up the oil and fluid on it and knew it had problems before selling it. When I asked the seller about the issues, his excuse was most people just buy these rare tractors to sit in their barn and I should be happy. Had I wanted something to take up space in my barn I wouldn't have paid $6k. I called Mecum and told them I had a complaint and was told I was being transferred.... click. Thanks for nothing. Feeling Foolish for trusting a brand name like Mecum.

Hello, I’m writing this letter to inform you of an extremely disappointing experience I had with your Dallas auction. I, much like other bidders, watched, waited and anticipated buying a car with nothing but confidence, as mecum has a stellar reputation. I received delivery of the car yesterday after several hiccups with the mecum financial department. I then drove the car and it immediately started smoking and leaking fluids. I took it to my local mechanic and the list of safety, mechanical and cosmetic issues is too long to even attempt to articulate in this email. The mechanics words were “I cannot let you drive this car out of here.” I then hired a car service to drive me home. The vehicle is in his shop and will undergo a full inspection tomorrow morning. I purchased the car for $65,000 plus the 10% fees totaling over $71,000 for the car. The fact that you allow a vehicle to go through your auction in this condition for that price is shocking to say the least. I would greatly appreciate someone following up with me immediately. This has been the absolute worst car buying nightmare I have ever had and I purchase several vehicles a year. Please pass this along to the right people as I strongly feel I have been scammed out of a significant amount of money.

Arrangements have been made with the Seller of the vehicle to take the vehicle back. This should resolve the review.

Bought a 1964 Bronco in Houston March 2021. They wrecked it unloading it at my house. They chose the facility to have it repaired and I still don’t have it back and repairs have not been started. That was 16 months ago. They’re avoiding communicating with me.
