While on military active duty stationed in Beckley, WV. I was accepted into the UC new ADN RN program. I was the first student in the first class. I attended all classes, kept a high GPA, and completed all requirements of my knowledge. About 30 minutes prior to the graduation ceremony, one of my professors approached me to say there was a billing issue regarding when I switched funding from military tuition assistance to using the post-911 Gi bill. That decrepancy resulted in a $3000 debt to the school. Therefore, I could not receive my degree during the graduation ceremony. Afterwards I set up a payment system to personally pay off the debt, that is when I was informed I had missed an 1 credit hour study preparation course and that the school will not issue my degree. I never received any notice and had to call in several times before trying to speak to someone. The school told me too much time elapsed and could not take the course needed for the degree. Furthermore, I had to restart the entire program from day one in-seat with no credits from already completing the course. Again no one would send anything in the mail, just a bunch of back and forth emails and calls. I have reached out to various levels of power- wv nursing board, military attorney, and senators for help. Wv nursing board stated that requirements were met but still needed degree. Military attorney informed me since UC is a private school, nothing much could be done. One of the senators had the school give me the needed study course but refused to grant the test codes to my proctor so I could complete. There were no guidance or help. All of this left me with a mountain of student debt paid by the military and a multitude of hours sacrificed from my family with nothing to show. This school should either refund the amount they stole or allow me the appropriate class (with test codes to my proctor) so I can complete it.

was never aware I had missed a course because my advisor never informed me. Instead I was lead to believe I had completed all said requirements and in fact graduated with all other students. It was at that time, roughly 30 minutes prior to the graduation ceremony that one of my professors, Susan, informed me there was a billing error from where I switched from using Tuition Assistance to utilizing the Post 911-GI bill and that I would have to pay the $3000 before my degree would be released (pls see attached photos). I called to the school numerous times and was never given a reason until several months later. I still do not recall ever receiving a formal explanation, and if so it was years later. Not once was any option given after I was verbally informed, except that I must repeat the entire course, in-seat, as if I never attended. In addition, I kept a high GPA so the reply in that I repeatedly failed is false! I had to reach out to an official state representative, who on my behalf contacted the school. This resulted in UC allowing me to take the study prep course missed. However, when it came time to test out of the course, the school would not release the test code to my official testing proctor. The actions that were bestowed upon me is what I find disrespectful because I would have easily completed this 1hr test prep course if I had been made aware, not "graduated". I have documentation from the numerous emails trying to work this issue out with the school along with copy of my transcript showing I successfully passed all 59hrs of course requirements except for this 1hr test prep course I was unaware of, which no one informed me I had missed until long after the fact, then never given the opportunity to complete. I am currently 100% disabled and rightfully earned that Associates degree in nursing.
