I asked them for a quote over the phone on 1/30/23 for mount and balance of 4 tires, 4 TPMS sensors,
4 tire disposal, and they quoted $140. The phone call was on speaker phone with 3 witnesses listening. They did not do the stems or sensors as I was watching them work. When they said they were done, I told them that they didn’t do the stems or sensors and that was supposed to be included. They had to take the tires off the rims to do that work which can damage the tires. When the work was done, they wanted $396.26. I was shocked and didn’t even have enough money to pay this and complained that wasn’t the right amount. They were rude and said that’s the amount. They said they added $65 ea x 4 for the TPMS Sensors. We never authorized any changes or charges above the $140 we were quoted. We were not informed of any additional fees or charges at all for the sensors and we thought those were included because that is what we asked for in the quote. I was told if I didn’t have the money, I could leave the car there until I did. They refused to remove the expensive sensors saying they were already programmed. This business was dishonest and failed to inform us of what we would be charged. After we left, I sent an email outlining our complaint. They stated in an email we could bring the car back and they would take the tires off the rims and remove the sensors and give us a refund for that portion. They lied in the email about several things. We are not allowing this shop to potentially damage our tires doing this. We do not trust this business. We want what we were quoted, and a refund on the unauthorized overages of $256.26. We paid cash and $86.26 on a card. They did not even give us a receipt for the cash.

    Business Response

    Date: 02/09/2023

I'm writing back from Bodkins Enterprises, Inc. in response to ID ******** about a transaction that took place on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

I can understand the customer's complaint as I have tried to resolve this issue with Bethany directly -by email - to remove the TPMS sensors and issue a refund for the TPMS sensors.  She did state that it's not easy for them to take time off work to come back to have this completed.  Our hours also include Saturday from 8-noon and we have stayed past our normal hours during the week on several occations to meet customer needs.

As for the quote Bethany is referring to, I believe there was a misunderstanding on their end of what they were asking me for on the phone call that took place on 1/30.  The quote that was originaly given for $140+ Tax was for the following services:

Mounting and Balanceing of tires $25.00/tire x4 =$100.00

    Tire Disposal $5.00/tire x4 = $20.00

    New TPMS Valve Stems $5.00/tire x4 = $20.00

    Total before Tax  $140.00

This quote is for exactly what the customer requested on the phone minus the State Inspection as we cannot give an accurate quote on that without seeing the vehicle first.

Here is a screenshpot of the appointment. See attached

The husband later requested us to install new TPMS tire sensors as well, to which I informed that TPMS tire sensors are an additional $65.00/ea.  Only from the customers' approval of the additional cost did we install the sensors.

Unfortunately, I never heard a complaint from the husband while he was in our shop and it wasn't until I received an email from Bethany that I was aware of any issues.

By no means did we refuse to remove the TPMS tire sensors as I have offered this multiple times to the customer at no extra cost to them through email once I was aware of the complaint.  By no means did we "threaten" to keep the car if unpaid as we would have simply removed the TPMS tire sensors for a more affordable option to the customer.

I believe we are being more than reasonable and understanding to the customer's complant and are trying to resolve it in a civil manner.

    Thank you for your time,

    Aaron Bodkins, Store Manager

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The claims Bodkins Enterprises is making is simply not true. Aaron Bodkins was not even present for this transaction. A woman did this quote over the phone and David DID ask for the programmable TPMs air sensors over the phone and the woman failed to accurately quote the job evidently. She misunderstood. There were several witnesses to this phone call. Her lack of knowledge and competence to give a quote is not our fault. Others have complained about the same thing on their ******** page. David absolutely complained while he was there. He actually threw a fit when he saw the invoice and the job was up on the board and it included the TPMS air sensors. He stated they didn’t do it at all and at that point he asked why it wasn’t done. He did not see the added charges until after that. He was never informed of the cost of those properly. They DID threaten to keep the car. He told them he didn’t even have that kind of money with him and they stated he could leave the car there until we had the money. I had to transfer money to **** from my bank account so he could pay. That’s why there was a cash transaction and a credit card transaction. They stated the TPMS sensors could not be removed because they had “already been programmed.” They did not offer a removal and refund of the TPMS sensors until after WE complained on their ******** page and ****** page. We are not wanting them to touch our car again. We will not waste our time to come in there again after this incompetence and lies by then. Removing the TPMS sensors requires removing the tire from the rim. That can ruin the brand new tires and they even have a disclaimer regarding that on their sales receipt. They also gave us no receipt for our cash payment. We are not willing to let them work on our car again after this huge mess. We demand a refund for the extra charges beyond the quote of $140. Nothing else is acceptable.

    Sincerely,
