No stars. This utility company has the monopoly of the area. There are no other options in 25535. If you are in Lavalette, WV, you lose. Now, it might be commonplace to gripe about water companies, but the Lavalette PSD truly shines as a worst case scenario for a utility company. Yes, like others they raise rates. For instance in 2015, they charged $33.45/month (based on 3,000 gallon minimum). They raised rates 14.2% (by $4.75, to $38.20). In November 2018, the cost was just a bit more: $39.13. This year they stated they'd raise rates (but didn't disclose on their paper bills...they made you call in or stop by the office to find out). So, in 2022, the net cost is $67.44 for commercial. Even more enjoyable is that to further stick it to their customers and keep more money, they pulled this stunt around 2020/2021: "We have partnered with ********** to extend an additional payment option for customers interested in using their check, debit card, or credit card to pay their bill." You'd think the majority of their customers were cash only. That's another $2.75 every month. Think about that: "an additional payment." This isn't a local fruit stand with a cash only sign. This is a profit making utility company. I don't mind rate increases when changes or improvements are on the horizon. However, no improvement to Lavalette PSD's service has ever been made. To this day, they do not provide a messaging system to alert customers before they shut off the water. This is a bare minimum service. Soap on your hands, in the shower, dishwasher, washing machine, all off without warning. If you call them with questions about the water being shut off, they will only say "we don't have an estimate." Every time. Also, if you call close to 4pm, their answering lady will be the rudest person you'll have spoken with that week, guaranteed. Try it!
