    - Front porch replacement started in fall of 2019 and completed September 2020, cost $40,000+. - Initial complaint about wood rotting and finish issues filed with JC Smith on 8/5/21. - After many phone calls and text messages, crew comes out on 5/4/22 and corrects some of the finish issues, but does not know anything about fixing rotting wood. - 6/28/22 ***** from the company comes out and says they will 100% stand behind their work. - 7/7/22 to 9/9/22 exchanges of phone and text messages saying they will be out but then issues with materials, etc. when I call/text about why they are no shows.- 9/9/22 is last time the company has responded to me. Many phone calls made by myself to them from then until today. Someone answers their main line and tells me they will run it up the pole but no one has ever once contacted me in the last 7 months.I've tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and didn't push hard over the winter months since it is outside work. My patience has run out and hope that this will help to get a resolution.

My wife and I, on October 28, 2021, signed a contract with JC Smith LLC to do the following work: enclose a 14' x 10' covered porch into a room; add a 14' x 10' deck next to the room with stairs down to the backyard; and add a 21' x 12' concrete patio below. The total amount for the project is $39,836.42, of which $36,395.86 has been paid, and only $3,440.56 is left to be paid. The permit was issued on March 31, 2022. They started the job on about the second week of April and since then they have worked sporadically. It has been six months, and out of the approximately 180 days, they have worked about 60 days with one or two workers. Three occasionally, and rarely the whole week. I have tried several times to find out why they were not coming to complete the job, and most of the time they said that their people were working on other projects. Ours have been constantly put in the back burner. In June I asked if they could finish the project by the end of July, a task I believe it would be easily accomplished. They told me that it would be close, but they would try to finish by then. They didn't. Between August and September, they did not show up for about six weeks. In September I requested that they finish the project by the middle of October, they said they would. Needless to say, they haven't. The only work left is to finish the deck, secure the down spout, and the build the concrete patio. Back in August, they told me that the concrete contractor was a couple of weeks away. This is October already. 91.4% of the cost of the project has been paid. According to their schedule of payment, the only invoices left are of the walk-through and the final inspection. All the invoices were paid right away.

    Business Response

    Date: 11/10/2022

We understand the customer's frustration and sincerely the delay is not something we did by design or desire.  JC Smith, like many contractors in our area, has been struggling with hiring and retaining quality field employees.  Those shortages have created unfortunate situations where we have had to shift manpower around to try to cover shortages.  However, we have since been able to complete the project and the job is closed (with the exception of any warranty work that may  arise in the future).
