There is no investigation. I know because I went through this in 2020 when patient advocates merely “shared my concerns”. It’s hard to be a patient advocate when there is the clear conflict of interest of being employed by WVU Medicine. The referring physicians notes stated the turbinates were reduced by using nasal spray. I had no breathing issues on the right side of my nose. Therefore turbinate reduction was unnecessary increasing both the risks and costs associated with surgery. The nasal bleeding came after surgery. The source was discovered by the physicians nurse as a broken suture. The physician then had to perform a vacuum procedure.
At the 6 month appointment I asked the physician if he did anything to the bone. The physician flat out said “no”. I told the physician he left me with an abnormal result and he responded “sorry risks of surgery”. My daughter is a witness to these statements however; they were not included in my medical record on the disc or printed medical record I had to request again. For some reason my access to the disc was later “denied for Administrative Editing”. I even took the disc to an IT specialist and she could not open it. I asked patient advocates why this was done and provided a photo I copied from the disc that clearly looks different from the printed photos but patient advocates declined to answer. I have no respect for WVU Medicine. Every day I have pain in my nose and I am too humiliated by the results to take photos with my family. I read a concerning review from another patient. We had something in common. Perhaps you should take the time to read them. I now travel out of the area for medical services. An amazing plastic surgeon could not help me due to “a lot of work done inside”. I hope in writing this review more patients will have the courage to speak out and the laws restricting patient rights will change. It is a fact that competition leads to quality and that is something our area needs more of.

It’s been almost 4 years now and I still have pain in my nose, numbness in the tip and twinges. The right valve is significantly sunken in. I had no issues on the right prior. The left valve is slightly sunken in along with the middle of my nose. I have unsightly pouches on either side and heavy feeling on the right appearing lopsided. I had a septoplasty by a WVU ENT in 2020. The pain and humiliation of the results have lessened my quality of life. I could not take photos with my daughter at graduation and even missed a funeral because I couldn’t face my family. I was unaware 2 of 3 surgeons were residents 1 of whom graduated 4 months before the procedure and the other just a year before. So much work was done inside a top plastic surgeon could not help me. I don’t believe all that work was necessary. Turbinate reduction surgery does not have to be performed with a septoplasty. I believe this contributed to the septal holes and unwanted changes. I had made clear I was happy with my appearance before surgery and wanted to keep my facial integrity. I was shocked my records stated I was pleased with the results and in no distress. My family are witnesses to the fact that I was never pleased and cried and complained at every visit. The physician was not in the room when the nurse removed the cast and bandages. My exact words were “oh my God he ruined me”. I was also unaware of WV Malpractice Reform Laws and the catastrophic stipulation that restricts patient rights. I was unaware of the WVU Health and Sciences class about biological racism. I have certainly learned my lesson and continue to avoid all WVU affiliated facilities but they have taken over many of the hospitals and clinics in our area. Again I do not believe the turbinate reduction was necessary. The septum could have been straightened and the left valve collapse repaired improving the breathing issue. I was referred to Morgantown by an affiliated WVU ENT and I fully regret ever taking that referral.

This is a patient care concern in which I will send to our Patient Advocate department to investigate that patient's complaint regarding the 2020 day surgery.  I will respond back once I receive a response back from this department.
