    Hello,

I got called to this job site for a septic system that was stopped up and not draining. After an evaluation, it was found That the leach bed had failed, and the homemade septic tank had to side cave in on it, which had the entire yard soupy mess underneath of the snow. The decision was made to replace the leach bed first then the septic tank but prior to doing so I had to bring Equipment over and move the snow off of the entire area so that it would be ready to start work the following day. Snow was covering everything.

There’s a fence located between the 2 yards and the customer notified me that if I needed to tear out the fence, then it had to go. He showed me that the fence wasn’t on the property lines to begin with so it just didn’t matter whatever I had to do to put the septic system and their sewage operating properly, notified him on several occasions the soil was and we had to do something to assist with being able to work at all in this manner so I had to take two dump truck loads of this soil out and bring other soil to try to dry it out .

The homeowner was very active in the whole process of watching what was going on And we made sure he knew the process that we were going through to fix his septic system. There were some small bushes in the way of where the septic system was going to be put that he also gave authorization to remove one of them had grown through the fence, which he also gave authorization to remove. Upon completion of the job, I explained to the homeowner that where the Leach bed was in 2 to 6 months settling would occur and it would still leave a lightly mounded Surface across the yard. I also explained that the tank could’ve used some more dirt put on top of it. However, the yard was so soupy that I could not walk the equipment out onto it without making a huge mess again so I recommended settling occurred that they might have to take a couple shovels of dirt and move it from here to there, I came back on a Saturday to wrap the job up and tie everything in properly to ensure proper operation as soon as I could possibly get it done.

The customer and I went over everything prior to me loading up equipment then I loaded my equipment and went back and got him and came back out as we were setting the gates back up and leaving the job site. I explained every part of what we had done, we had to tie up and re-strap the drain line underneath of the rental house next-door due to the improper installation that it had to begin with. During this conversation, I told him that I had 2 inch metal posts if he wanted some to make Ballard out of and he told me that next time I’m out in the area I wanted to I could drop some off in the yard and he could take care of it. Was not part of the job scope nor have I completed this yet because I have not been in the area doing work since I left that residence.

The message states that the entire yard was soupy mess and under snow, not true, only the area where they removed the old tank was soupy.

My leach bed was not working because they tried to fix the problem they created when they originally put a new line under the driveway and did not have enough drop in the pipe.  They said it was settling, the house has been there for many years and settled all it could already, but the improper pipe was installed wrong.  It did work slow, but was told that was ok.

I asked how  much a new leach bed and fix line under driveway would be, I was told $5,000 and I said ok, put in a new leach line.  At this time, nothing was mentioned about septic tank except to tie the new leach bed to the septic tank.  I did say if necessary, they could remove any or all of the fence that got in their way.  I did not say damage it and leave it there.  They did remove mud and sloppy wet soil and replaced where old septic tank was with dirt, limestone, rocks and other stuff that he said it was free.  It came from some school when they built a new playground.  Apparently the school didn’t want and gave it to them for no charge.

The next time I spoke with the company guy, he said that now I need a new septic tank for extra charge.  I said “How much will that cost” and he held up 5 fingers (another $5000).  He then asked for $3500 and said he would figure the rest when completely done, $3500. More then $3500 more when finished $5000, $3500, $3500 for a total of $12,000.  I was told the dirt would settle in 5 to 8 weeks (2 months) and there would be slight mounding then.  The message says they needed a couple shovels of dirt to cover up where new septic tank was showing and finish covering it up.  They came with a hand shovel and moved some dirt so you could not see the septic tank.

When they came back, they said that the pipe they put in under driveway had too much dip in it and was causing it not to flow to the new tank properly and they would fix it.

The pipe they said was improperly installed is the one they did on 1-9-23 for $2,747.68 it is my opinion that this company targets senior citizens.  I have never yet to this day received any kind of receipt for this work.  He said he would send me an itemized receipt showing everything I paid for.

I do have 3 cancelled checks for $12,000.00 total.  Also while they were here, they backed over the neighbors solar driveway markers and 12 had to be replaced.  There exact words were “We will take care of that”.

I have before and after pictures of the jobsite.

    Service Date: April 11, 12 & 27 2022
Service: Wright Co. Electric LLC was to Install new 200amp meter base disconnect combo, service mast, proper grounding, conduit, 4/0 wiring. This was completed on the 11th & 12th. On April 27th the electric company came as scheduled to shut power off and remove service line from back of house and then install new service at front of house. During this time Wright Co. was to then tie-into existing distribution panel from new service at front of house. During the tie-in process the old service mast and meter base at the back of the house was removed from through the roof. I questioned the employees of Wright Co. doing the work on the repairing of the hole left through the roof, they told me that repairing the roof was not part of the job. I told the employee that I would call (their boss) to find out what was going to be done. At that time I tried to call but there was no answer on phone. The employees continued the tie-in and got the power back on with all being completed except the hole in the roof where the old service mast was removed. I then asked the employees to please install a temporary patch with which I provided the material to do so and one of the employees did so within a 5 to 10 min. time.

I had tried several times again to contact Wright Co. and finally was able to talk to the owner on May 6 about the roof hole repair and also the new mast installed was leaking when it rains. He (Wright Co.) indicated to me that he had roofers to take care of it because the elect. employees were not roofers.

Through several attempts with calls and then messaging back and forth as how the job was left and phone messages indicating Wright Co. would take care of the issues still no resolution as of Aug. 10th.

Pertinent information: Estimate number from Wright Co. #****, $2,650.00
was paid in full in good faith that all in question remaining repairs would be completed.
    Paid in full invoice #****

After we completed our electrical service we put a temporary patch that was not quoted as part of the job.  It was explained to the customer in advance that we do not run a roofing crew.  On July 6, 2022 we returned to the job site.  Upon arrival to look at the possible leak of service mast it was observed that other contractors were working on the service mast. Once another company has tampered with our work it is impossible for us to cover the work under warranty.  We do not run a roofing crew, which was explained to the customer upfront when discussing the placement of the service mast, however this is a service we put in regularly and have never had a problem with prior.

I have reviewed the response from Mr. ********

There seems to be a problem or misunderstanding of the job scope in a service upgrade. Originally the old service was not getting taken off of the house which would leave no hole in the roof to patch. However upon completion of the project he asked if we could go ahead and remove the service while we were there and gave us a choice of scrap metal to patch the hole in which we did and sealed.

He called me a week or so later wanting a full sheet of metal out in that place because he did not like the solar seal that was used to seal the patch job. I explained to him at that time my guys were not roofers. They are definitely qualified to perform roof penetrations and install roof boots to keep them from leaking.

Next I received a call about 2 weeks later telling me that the new installation had water coming down from the inner side of the boot he suspected and wanted that sheet of metal out in the other side of the house. I explained that we were not a roofing crew once again. I did agree to coming to look at the roof boot and make any needed repairs. Upon arrival the following week there was another construction crew onsite with a worker messing around with the boot on the mast.

Any and all warranty that I give is null and void after the customer or another contractor messes with the job site. I cannot be sure of whom caused the problem if there is problems. I turned my truck around and left his home. As far as I am concerned it is his house to deal with is there is anything causing problems or he can hire us or another company to fix it. There have been multiple contractors on his premises due to remodeling.

As for his old meter base that did not meet code. It is in the junk yard or scrap yard. I will not be returning it. This should have been mentioned last year when the job was
    performed.

    Thanks
    Joe

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

There is definitely a misunderstanding in communication on the scope of work performed. The estimate originally sent to me states as follows:

("Move 200 amp service to other side of house. With new meter base combo/service mast/proper grounding/new 4/0 wiring. Remove existing 200 amp meter base upon transfer of service").

My understanding from this estimate was that all of the old service would be removed. To me that meant through the roof as well. Now Wright Co. wants to change what I expected. What he says against what I expect. Now it's my problem?
As for the new mast leaking when it rains! How is it Wright Co. will not stand behind there workmanship when the soul purpose they install the service mast is for the power co. to hookup the service lines to it.  The power co. does not tamper with it. I know now for certain that the quality of the install of the mast was the reason for the leak, because I have since got the leak fixed.
My resolution to this complaint is still the same as my last response given, plus to state this business will not be considered or suggested by me in any future work Wright co. performs.
