Deposited check. It was employer check. It did not go through. Overdrew account and never could reach resolution from bank. Employer never fixed issue and caused bank to be overdrawn. We was already without a pay check we could not afford to pay the amount of the check to the bank as we were expecting that amount to be deposited into account

      Business Response

      Date: 04/08/2025

In response to complaint #******** regarding a charged off account with our financial institution, when a deposited item is returned, it is charged back to the account it was deposited into. When this is done, the check is mailed to the customer so that they can pursue collection efforts with the maker of the check. The financial institution cannot collect these funds for the customer. Because a deposit was never made to the account to clear the overdraft, it was charged off. We do not report charged off deposit accounts to the credit bureau, but do report to ***********. *********** is a consumer reporting agency, similar to a credit bureau, but it focuses on tracking and reporting information about deposit accounts (checking and savings) rather than credit. Financial institutions use this information to assess the risk of opening new accounts for potential customers. This will only be cleared with the financial institution and *********** if the customer makes a deposit to bring the account to a zero balance.

I have mailed a response to the customer. Should you have any further questions, you are welcome to contact me at *************

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The check was deposited but due to an issue on the employer behalf, it did not process and was rejected which caused my account to become overdrafted. That was payday. The employer never resolved the issue which resulted in a weeks loss of pay, and also a negative balance on my account which was equivalent to the weeks pay, ultimately leaving me without for a total of two weeks pay. I had tried cancelling and stopping the issues on the account and tried working with the managers at the office but nothing was done. This was beyond my control and had caused me to not be able to have a checking account anywhere. I would like this removed from **** ********

       Regards,
      ******** ******
