Purchased a 2016 *** sierra 1500 from patriot auto sales in cheyenne wyoming on 1/16/2023, i drove the vehicle home and parked in the garage to do some maintenance on the vehicle, as i do with any vehicle i purchase. I discovered that this vehicles emission catylitic converters had been removed and straight pipe welded in its place, this was in no shape or form ever relayed to me as part of the sale, Living in colorado that requires emission would shy any person away of buying a vehicle without this government required part. I contacted the dealership many times and did not receive a call back for almost 2 1/2 weeks later, contacted the dealer again today to see if they were going to make this vehicle right under the Colorado federal law that requires emission equipment on all licensed vehicles and was told by the manager Jeff that they were not going to fix the vehicle since Wyoming does not require emissions equipment and was sold to me "as is', and knowing i was from Colorado and they did not disclose anything that this vehicle had been tampered with on the vehicle emission system. I am not one to complain and usually can work out some kind of solution any time a issue arises, but if this dealership is doing this to others, which looking at the reviews this has been done before, then someone needs to step in and make it right for the people who work hard for their money. Now i have a 15,000 dollar vehicle that will need all this repair to drive in colorado, very disappointing

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: The vehicle was sold from a dealer without Caytlin converters which is a federal law for a liscensed auto dealer to sell a vehicle without emission equipment, I reached out to the dealer the very next morning after i bought the vehicle and left a message for a manager to call me back since the sales lady did not have a answer about the vehicle not having catylic converters, called back again the following week to try and get a manager on the phone and the sales man this time said he would leave a message for a manger to call me back again, did not receive a call back from the dealership till the second of february, in which i relayed the issue about the vehicle not having emission equipment, and also that the truck would not start, The manager said he would talk to the owner and see what they could do. He did call me back and said the owner advised him to get the vehicle fixed. They are correct about me working on the vehicle and that was because i could not move the vehicle out of my garage since the day i bought it, i ended up using a certified repair dealer in greeley colorado to try and trouble shoot the issue in which that time they advised me to have the dealer pick up the vehicle because of numerous issues it contained. at that time i was called back by the manager of the Patriots auto sales and said they were going to come pick up the truck. so the issue ended up being the Key lost its memory that why it wouldnt start, i payed for the Key myself, but the Emission equipment that was cut out was not addressed. I know Wyoming does not have a emissions but the state of colorado does.

    Business Response

    Date: 04/17/2023

The vehicle was sold as is, with no dealer warranty in Wyoming.  When first contacted the customer had the vehicle at his own mechanic.  The vehicle was picked up by the dealer from the mechanic and assessed free of charge.  The complaint with the Better Business Bureau was filed while the dealer was assisting with repairing the no-start issue.  Customer picked up the truck on March 24th 2023.  The Customer was offered assistance with other complaints but had expressed to the dealer that he had a way to resolve those issues that did not require the dealer’s assistance.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. I will take care of the issue myself, very poor dealer to work with, not a recommended dealer for buisness.
