Brought in a key blank to have it cut and programmed. The employee messed up cutting it and even said he did and that he might be able to make it work. He was not able to make it work. The manager **** told me that because it's not one of their keys that he would not do anything to correct their mistake and that I can buy one of their keys for $200 (twice as much as my OEM key blank was) but they weren't willing to do anything else about it. So this business attempted to extort me by ruining my property (there was no disclaimer given that they wouldn't be responsible for miscut 3rd party keys) and then trying to strong arm me into buying one of their severely overpriced keys.Image you took your car to the mechanic and had already bought the part you needed, then you get a call saying they were negligent and destroyed your part but you can buy it again from them for twice as much as you paid for the original or you can come get your car and just be S. O. L.

We have had no communication with the customer, although I did speak with the team and I will give you the other side of the story. We don't believe the customer has been entirely truthful.  Our team has told the customer more than once  that we are not liable for keys brought in from an outside source.  We have cut and programmed keys for him before stating that we are not liable but they worked. This time the programming did not work causing the situation. We do not have a 100% success rate with keys.  When we cut and program keys supplied by us we guarantee they will work, we do not guarantee keys bought outside of our store.  After this issue we are changing the store policy. We will not attempt to cut and program any key not bought from us.  If he reaches out to us we have agreed to pay for the replacement of his key even though we are not truly responsible for doing so.  Thanks **** *******

I am rejecting this response because:

At this point it's the principal of how this is all being handled. I am not being un truthful, during the cutting process the new key moved because the kid cutting it did not secure it properly, he looked at the other employee that was there and said that it moved but he hopes he can make it work.he never made it to the programming because after he was trying to strong arm it into turning my ignition he was asked to stop before damaging it. Yes over the many years I have used this service and never once was I told that if they blatantly ruined my key that I would be S.O.L. Or I would have paid a little more for the dealer to do it. Also after I told **** that it's unlikely I would be back he hollered as I was going out the door that "yes you will be" because he knows we have limited options but to deal with them at some point. I can offset most of my business elsewhere but emergencies will happen unfortunately. I wasn't looking for anything free, just for them to correct the problem they created. If you need to communicate with me don't give me the store number where they are very unhelpful.
    Regards,

To put this behind us and move forward we are willing to pay for the key.

We believe there are two sides to every story.

We have changed some policies at the store to prevent this from happening again.

    Thanks
