I gave Blue Sky Self Storage a check in the amount of $805 on June 30, 2023 for the rent of my storage units.
I got an email on August 8, 2023 that the check did not clear through the bank. They demanded I give them the cash within 24 hours.
Why are the checks not being deposited into their bank account for over a month past the date turned in to them for payment?
I am sure that I am not the only one this happens to. What do people do that are living paycheck to paycheck and can not afford to give them the cash within the 24 hours that they demand? Are people just supposed to lose their valuables because of the lack of professionalism that a company and/or manager has?Business Response

Mr.
Anderson,RE: case # 2043972 - Charlotte Vigil
I
am responding to a letter from the BBB, that I received in today’s mail. And, the tenants resolution request for a billing adjustment.
Please
note: The tenant referenced above, has written multiple checks that were
returned as NSF. When we receive the “bad” check, I call the tenant and ask
them to replace the funds in cash. The tenant is also advised to not pay their
rent via check again due to their writing ‘bad’ checks. This tenant has not
adhered to this direction and instead has continued to drop off her habitually
late rent payments in check form.
As
we know, when we write a check, the amount of the check is deducted from our
account by ledger or by other means. I t is the check writers’ responsibility
to keep track of their bank balance, not mine. It is not our fault when funds
they do not have are being used for other purchases. It is not the fault of a
business when the funds written to them, do not clear. I understand if this was
the first time an NSF for this tenant has occurred. But it is has occurred more
than once and the tenant has been advised to not write any further checks, but
instead pay the rent via cashiers check, money order or cash.
Our
bank will attempt to process a check written to the business. multiple times.
Only when the attempts fail, are we contacted at the office and advised that
the check written has not cleared and has bounced. I then contact the tenant
and ask them to replace the funds immediately. This tenant started writing NSF
checks last year and has continued the practice to this day. This complaint is not valid and rather an
attempt by this tenant to redirect blame to this business and not take responsibility
for her bad practices. The tenant needs to take responsibility for the NSF
checks written and not defer blame. Our collection practices are always
professional and our calls, e-mails etc.are an attempt to collect a debt owed.
Please
feel free to contact me directly with any questions.
Respectfully,
Dianna

December 2022 I rented a storage unit at Blue Sky Self Storage. Shortly after I realized that I needed a bigger unit. On January 20, 2023 I rented another unit with another company because they were a lot cheaper. Same day I moved out of this unit and the gentleman told us that it is all taken care of and we don’t owe anything. He failed to enter it in the computer and we got charged again on February 23rd $101. We called and the person “working” there was very rude and pretty much accused us of lying. She did talk to that gentleman just to find out that it was true and she told us that she would have to talk to corporate in order for us to get a refund. Her promise to let us know not just failed, we have Ben ignored ever since. Several attempts have been made to visit their office but it was closed every time ,even though it says OPEN online. Often there is just a sign on the door that says they will be back , usually some time in the afternoon. Several phone calls have been made and nobody answers the phone. We have send an e mail through their website and that also got completely ignored. Tried to call Corporate in Canada but can’t get through. We do understand that mistakes can happen but not even trying to solve the problem and just ignore is very bad customer service, incompetence and extremely dishonest. I honestly doubt that their Corporation has any idea what is going on there. I wonder how they can do business if they are mostly closed. We are just trying to get our money back. The person filing the complaint is NOT the tenant - Steve White. It is another person by the name of Manuela Hageman. When the tenant was charged for the unit, there had not been a notification of moving out of the unit. Max Manyan the Assistant Manager who is referenced as the " gentleman" was not informed of an intended move out. He is an experienced and very knowledgeable employee and if he had been notified of the move out, it would have been scheduled. When Max responded, he advised that he had not received a call to move the tenant out of the unit. The allegations are false and without merit. When the lady called Manni called for the tenant Steve White, she was immediately informed that Max had not received a move out notice and there would not be a refund.
Note: the complaint was written by Manuela Hageman, the calls have been placed by Manuela Hageman etc. etc. Steve White has not called or written or filed the false claim. No calls have been ignored, we are in the office from 8AM to 5PM Monday through Friday with a break mid-day.
When the refund request was received, a response was provided the same day. If you read the complaint thoroughly, the information is inaccurate. Our Corporate offices are not in Canada. Etc. etc.
Also note: find the contact form submission attached, where the phone number is not that of the tenant, is from Manuela Hageman. Steve White has not contacted the office, has not called Max or written to the office.
No refund is owed.

I am rejecting this response because: Yes I wrote this complaint for Steve White. I am his caregiver with Power of Attorney.Steve White suffers from Alzheimer’s and was present when I wrote it for him.On January 20,2023 Jim Sanders (1-720-269-9691) helped Steve White to move his belongings out of the unit and spoke to Max. He asked Max if Steve owed anything and was told that nothing was owed. They proceeded on to Skyline Self Storage and rented a container. Please see photo. Human error happened when Max failed to enter it in the computer. He was in fact notified in person not by phone. The statement that I was notified about Max not receiving a move out notice a.s.o. Is completely made up, a complete lie. We got charged another month and that is wrong. The other photo proves that I send email through their website on 04-17-2023 and I never gotten a response. I tried to find the number for their headquarters but wasn’t successful. So I just called another branch and they gave me a number and told me that their location was in Canada. Steve White is not able to call or write, that’s why I take care of things for him. And yes my calls have been ignored. I even send texts to Dianna Strannigans personal phone and those got ignored also. Several attempts have been made by me to go to the business but it was always closed. They are not there from 8-5. On March 3rd I contacted Robin Dunlap who is another employee there and complained about them always being closed. Please see pictures. Refund is indeed owed. Best regards, Manuela Hageman

Steve White

Any additional response will follow in the same line of my original response to complaint #19969572.
We billed the tenant Steve White, due to the fact there was no move out notice received. The original contact my Manuela Hageman, where she called me at the storage office, stated that she had been in touch with Max Munyan ( the Asst. Manager ) and advised him of the pending move out. Then the story changed to Steve White contacting Max Munyan. Now per her response below, a Jim Sanders contacted Max Munyan to advise him of the pending move-out. The story is inconsistent and changing to fit her narrative.
Max is an experienced, professional Manager, who would have scheduled a move out if he had received notice. We billed the tenant due to the fact the move out was not scheduled. A refund is not owed.

subject: Re: You have a New Message from BBB Regarding Complaint #19960572
Good morning,
I am so sorry for not responding any sooner but time just got away from me.
The situation has not been resolved at all. As a matter of fact , when I stopped by there the other day and tried to talk to Dianna Strannigans again, once again was very rude and snapped at me again. When I asked her for corporate phone number again, she gave me the district managers number. I don’t understand why she refuses to give me the correct number. What started out to be a simple mistake on Max part, turned in to fraud, theft. I didn’t lie about anything. Why would I do that for ?
Dianna and me know each other on a personal level which is very unfortunate. She is indeed dishonest on so many levels and very manipulating.
They charged us for an extra month because Max failed to enter it in the computer. This is wrong but could have been resolved very easily. Instead Dianna is twisting and lying about it. I really don’t understand this at all. Steve White is on a fixed income and really doesn’t have that much. For a company to be so greedy that they even have to steal from an elderly person is more than just sad.
Have a wonderful day, Manni Hageman
