Calgary Old School Cabinet Maker entered into a contact with us to complete the installation of our basement cabinets and shelves in June of 2022. This company is run by **** and ************************* (husband and wife). The work was to be completed within "4 to 5 weeks" as per ***************************** agreement in person with my wife and I. The installation was initially delayed for several months, with the owners citing various excuses ranging from staffing issues to death in the family. We were accommodating and waited patiently, giving them plenty of time to allow them to have their affairs in order. Finally in late September, they did send a worker along with some of the material and dropped it off in our basement. In early October, they started the installation, and completed approximately ***** percent of the project in satisfactory fashion. At this point they requested that we finish paying for 80 percent of the work ($4000) before they would proceed to finish the job. Several weeks passed and another worker showed up to complete the project. The worked proceeded to complete a substandard installation, ******* to complete a 1-2 day job in just a few hours. He not only did a poor job, but also damaged much of the material in the process. We reported this to ******* and **** and they agreed to rectify the deficiencies and have the work completed properly. After approximately 8 more weeks a different worker showed up to begin the process of rectifying the substandard and damaged cabinets and shelves. At this point they proceed to remove and reinstall some of the cabinet material. They took other pieces such as the shelves and said they would repair them and return to reinstall. Another 4 weeks has past, with minimal communication, and the work has yet to be completed. We have been strung along for over 6 months to this point and the work is still not completed. We have recently obtained 2 quotes to repair their mess, both of which are in excess of $5000.
