1 starLike many here, Buyer Beware: I am just leaving TurboTax for its honesty and accountability. In helping my son do his first tax, it came up with a warning to review a property item that might have been missed. When we did, it said we needed to upgrade to go forward. Without thinking, my son hit the continue thinking it was just a notification and not that we were agreeing to upgrade to a paid version. There was no notification of how much, or what you were agreeing to but it opened a you have accepted premier level and asked for a credit card. There was no back or undo option, there was no "by clicking here you are accepting..." warning, just the continue button that is everywhere in the app. I called them to request either an undo or a coupon as we did not want premier, and with a simple t4, there was no need for it. They said it was our fault and that there was no way to undo the upgrade so we either paid or delete the return and start a new return. Since we were ready to submit, I was really frustrated by their lack of support when I have been using them for over 10 years with paid versions for the other 7 members of our family. They didn't care that I would leave their company. The ******************* and Banks should not be supporting this unethical company. There lack of accountability is a major concern.Review fromTrevor K

1 starWorst customer service. I accidentally got the premium for one w2 and I called and waited hours and they refused to give me a refund saying they have no ability over the phone. How can a company put a service slipped in so sneaky and not even have the decency to allow me to get a refund?Review fromLawrence N

1 starMisleading Upgrade Practices and Locked-In Charges – Longtime User Forced to Abandon TurboTax I have been a loyal TurboTax user for many years, but this year’s experience was deeply disappointing and concerning. The methods used to push package upgrades are, if not outright fraudulent, certainly deceptive and user-hostile. After accidentally selecting the wrong form option, the system forced me to upgrade to a higher-tier package—with no option to revert, even after I corrected the mistake. Later, while using the internal search bar to look up a tax topic, I was again forced into an even more expensive package, despite making no changes to my return. I had no ability to decline or return to the prior version. Upon researching the issue, I discovered that even TurboTax's own support confirms the only way around it is to start the entire process over. But this doesn’t work either, because once your account is flagged for the upgrade, it remains locked into the higher-priced package—effectively trapping users into paying more. To make matters worse, if one spouse needs an upgrade (e.g., for investment income), both partners are required to use and pay for the upgraded version, regardless of whether it’s needed by the second person. In the end, I had no choice but to abandon TurboTax and file using a different tax software. I will not be returning to Intuit’s TurboTax and cannot recommend it to others given these manipulative practices.Review fromSusan S

1 starNever use QB for payment processing! They are the worst! No adequate customer service, can't reach relevant departments, no emails for communication. QB tried to withdraw more $ from our account (as part of chargeback) than they deposited, and impossible to get any answers or guidance for resolution. Their departments don't communicate with one another . For example Payments dep and who is handling chargebacks don't coordinate with Compliance department.Use other companies for merchant services.Review fromElizabeth M

1 starI filled out my taxes on April 15th, 2024 on Turbo Tax and paid $133 before the taxes were filed.I could not complete them that day on time, because I did not know my 2022 AGI. I attempted to reach customer service, but it was after hours and I only had access to the robot-automated response.I filed with a different company that was able to give me my AGI.I later contacted Turbo Tax customer service to be refunded, since I did not complete filing with them. They disclosed that before I paid, I agreed that I was satisfied with the product -under the impression that my taxes were completed, I was. But then, I was informed my taxes were NOT complete until I entered a PIN or 2022 AGI.They refused the refund.I asked for a manager, and was informed there is not management that customers are able to speak with, and there was nothing that could be done.I also started filing with Turbo Tax under the false pretense that my Federal Return would be free to file.It was not until the end that I was informed I had to pay $69 for filing Federal returns. At that point, I just continued because I already spent all the time filling out the forms and I was limited on time, and would not have had time to complete with another company.I did some research and saw so many other people had similar issues. I found one review that listed a different customer service number (this review will not allow me to enter it)I called and explained again what happened. I was offered a refund on the Federal since I had such a basic return (but any little extra thing will automatically make you upgrade to deluxe, is what I was informed). After some negotiating, and reiterating that live customer service was not available at the time I needed, I was finally offered the full refund. But what a shady company to make customers "agree to satisfactory service" before the process is complete - and then s**** them over and refuse to refund because you "agreed" you were satisfied with the product.Review fromDave B

2 starsTURBOTAX CANADA MISLEADS INITIAL SPOUSE WITH A LARGE REFUND MAJOR ISSUE ACKNOWLEDGED BY LIVE CHAT -> LEADS TO MARITAL DISPUTES When a spouse opens a spousal tax return and enters their individual tax data, they can be INITIALLY presented with a beautiful green *** Summary block at the top-left of the program which may indicate they are *********** over $2250 (more or less, depending on their tax situation). This is a pre-emptive miscalculation because the 2nd spouse has not yet entered any income! Thus, the 1st spouse is initially *********** a large spousal benefit because they are SUPPORTING a zero or low-income spouse. THIS LEADS TO INITIAL MISLEADING JOY (and a "that's mine!" mindset)!.The truth of course is that the second spouse could earn equivalent or even more, and the initial number confused the issue and misleads the customers into believing that number which sits alone in a summary box with no explanation whatsoever. THE SUMMARY SHOULD |NOT BE DISPLAYED UNTIL BOTH SPOUSES HAVE ENTERED THEIR INITIAL TAX DATA. IT SHOULD NOT BE A RUNNING TALLY based on INCOMPLETE ENTRIES. THIS IS CAUSING MAJOR GRIEF!Review fromJoan K

1 starI have been using Turbotax for many years and have had success up until this year. *he taxes were done and net filed at CRA. *he program had an error in it and it did not add up all the * slips so that gross income was calculated incorrectly, CRA caught error which cost the taxpayer. Calling customer service was a waste of time. *hey did not see the serious of the matter. *hey were hard to understand. I asked to speak to a supervisor set up a call time which never happened. Turbotax definitely needs to take their customer service obligations more seriously.Review fromTien F

1 starVery disappointed with Turbo Tax's deception. I've been using them for several years. This year I logged in to do my taxes, and there were the usual 3 options to choose from: Do it Yourself - $119, Turbo Tax Live Premium - $209 (gives you "live help" with your taxes) and a third option for having someone else do your taxes for you.I selected the *** $119 version. Went through, filled out everything, got to the "file" section where you pay TurboTax and file your taxes. For some strange reason, it was trying to charge me for Turbo Tax Live Premium, the $209 version. That's not right, so immediately start looking for the "Help" section. There is a large red button on the bottom right of the screen that says, "Live Help". I click on that, and get some sort of AI-generated system. I ask how to contact Quickbooks, and find the article that gives me the phone number of who to call. So I call Quickbooks. The person on the phone was very nice and tried very hard to help me, but I wasted an HOUR on the phone, only to find out that because I clicked "Live Help" in trying to figure out how to fix being INCORRECTLY CHARGED, they couldn't fix the problem, because I had technically used their "Live Help". Mind you -- I did not opt into this to begin with. I had no idea what I was clicking on, I was just trying to fix the problem that THEIR system created. I did NOT ONCE get any live help with my taxes. And they were unable to fix this.Absolutely unacceptable, deceptive business practices. The person on the phone tried to help me by giving me a "discount code" that removed $70 of the $90. I was also told that I could completely START OVER and redo all of my taxes, and that should remove the accidental premium charge (I'm not holding my breath -- it already tried to charge me without me using it to begin with -- not to mention I've wasted SEVERAL HOURS NOW on my taxes unnecessarily because of this problem.)This company is deceptive. I will NOT be using them in the future.
