I live in ************* **. Since I moved to ************ a few years ago, I have always gone to Mr. **** for any car problems. The staff were friendly, and I had the impression that they provided honest service. However, I was recently disappointed by their dishonesty and irresponsibility. Here is my story: Last year, on September 20th, my car battery was running low, so I went to Mr. **** to have it checked. The staff informed me that the store was out of stock of the battery, so he would outsource one from elsewhere and replace it for me. My English is not very good, and I was just content as long as they could fix the battery. It took around 40 minutes, including the waiting time, to complete the job.A year later, on August 2nd, my battery died, and I couldnt start the engine. I went to the shop the next day and spoke with the staff. The employee who had changed the battery was even present. He couldnt find any record in his system about the battery change, but he remembered that he had to outsource the battery from elsewhere to fix it. He then told me to find the receipt and bring it in, and he would take care of the issue. That evening, I searched and found the bank statement (please find it attached), which clearly states the date and location of Mr. **** West. The payment was processed on September 20th, and the amount was $517.51. I brought this bank statement to Mr. ***** but the staff changed his mind and told me to find the official receipt that has Mr. **** written on it.I am absolutely stunned. I have taken a picture of their records (please find it attached), which only shows three service histories: March 22, 2024; July 5, 2023; and July 14, 2021. The record does NOT even include my service history from September 2023. It is clear that the staff at Mr. **** do not conduct honest business, as they do NOT record all the services performed.Business Response

Hi,
Customer came in and we re-diagnosed the issue to the vehicle which was that it had sat for a longer period of time while the customers were out of the country and a light was left on causing a full drain of the battery. Customer charged battery at home last week and has been driving around for 1 week with no issues once a full charge has been put back into the battery. To ensure customer satisfaction and to ensure the issue was dealt with to the best possible degree we made and signed an agreement with customer that if there were any other residual issues with battery over the next month (August 12 - September 12)that a warranty would be honored authorized by *******.

I had an oil change completed on March 1st at the ********* location. The next day I noticed oil leaking and low oil pressure warning. Mr Lube did not install an oil cap correctly causing the oil to have a catastrophic leak and resulting in an engine replacement. Once the engine was replaced Mr Lube refused to provide me with a mechanic report on what work exactly had been completed, no information on the used engine that was installed and tried to have me sign a release of liability form. Since them I have had check engine light reappear, I contacted mr lube returned to their store for diagnostics but they brushed me off and then ignored multiple emails so I had to have it repaired out of pocket by a Jeep dealership. The Jeep dealership has commented that this behaviour is not industry standard and I was being taken advantage of. This week the check engine light came on and I noticed oil leaking from below the engine area. I again contacted Mr Lube, this time they responded and I went to their store for diagnostic. The technician advised me not to drive home due to the severity of the leak and that the vehicle would be sent to the mechanic who completed the engine replacement . Mr Lube and the mechanic who performed the engine replacement are in dispute over warranty and now after Mr Lube agreed to provide me with a rental car and cover travel costs they refusing both. I am again in limbo on the repair and without a vehicle. I am concerned with the ongoing issues that the install was not installed correctly, the engine that was installed is tainted and the vehicle will forever have issues.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: although my vehicle was returned to me on June 4th, I have not received any information on where the vehicle was repaired, what repairs were completed, have not received any mechanic service reports for any repairs.I have not been reimbursed for any of the out of pocket expenses, my emails on reimbursement continue to ignored along with my emails requesting the documentation on mechanics report and on the engine that was installed. As of today the check engine light is back on , I brought it to the mr lube store but they refused to help.

I am rejecting this response because it has only addressed one of my concerns or requests. There is no information on the engine that was installed, no mechanic report this work, my check engine light is back on and this issue is being ignored along with the outstanding travel expenses reimbursement.

Hi,
We want to thank you for reaching out to us with your request. We appreciate your patience and understanding during the repair process of your vehicle. We are pleased to inform you that the necessary repairs have been completed, and your vehicle is now in good working condition. While we strive to ensure that all repairs are thorough and effective, it is important to note that, like any mechanical work,we cannot guarantee that no future issues will arise. I am rejecting this response because the vehicle was not in good working condition because the check engine light came on 2 days after it was returned to. I sent 6 emails to Mr Lube and ******************** about this and got no reply. I again paid out of pocket to have the vehicle repaired. Clearly Mr Lube/******************** are avoiding responsibility and providing me with the requested documentation. Not once has anyone reached out to call me and discuss this matter. I will now be pursuing legal action to resolve this matter.

Hi,
The vehicle was in good working condition, and the check engine light that came on is due to an issue with the Evap system, which has nothing to do with the work that was done.
All emails have been replied to, and the store manager and the area manager have been in contact with the customer. If any money has been paid, please provide us with invoices, and we will look into it.
As for some of the documentation, we have provided the documents regarding fixing the oil leak that occurred after the installation of the engine that was requested.Regards,

I am rejecting the previous response because it is not truthful. The **** system is directly connected to the engine, which was replaced. Despite multiple requests, I have not received any information or documentation regarding the work completed or the history of the engine that was installed.
Additionally, neither the store manager nor the area manager has contacted me, and none of the emails I have sent have been responded to. The only communication I have received from Mr. ************** ********** has been through these messages, which continue to provide inaccurate and misleading information.
If Mr. ************** ********** wish to address this matter professionally and save face, I strongly suggest that someone from the management team contact me directly to resolve this issue.Sincerely,

I needed an oil change and a brake fluid change on my 2017 **** I went to Mr Lube for the service. The young attendant then also told me after looking at the vehicle that I needed my front and back differential fluid done. I asked how much and he said $200. I said ok. I came back after the work was done and he gave me the invoice. I was both shocked and surprised. I was charged $199 x 2 being $199 for each front and back differential and not the $200 I was told. In addition I was charged an additional $199 for transfer case fluid which I didn't know was needed and had never discussed or approved it with anyone.Business Response

Tuesday July 18, 2023 I just had my oil changed. I was charged $366.21 for a synthetic oil for a diesel. This charge included an air filter. I checked the bill and found that I had been charged a " special filter charge" of $50.00. I told the technician that I had never been billed this before. the manager came out and said this charge had been around for a few years but quickly change his tune when he realized that I had my oil changed at this location less than one year ago and I had not been charged this additional charge. His comment was basically this is what it is. Unacceptable practices. ****** ** *****Business Response

APRIL 30 2023 . I contacted Mr.**** asking on phone there bottom line for an oil change for a 2013 ****** corolla. this ****** needed synthetic oil i said. he replied said it would be $125.00 before taxes. i said ok what is your name he said *******. i said ok ****** is coming with the car for the oil change. he said it would take 20 minutes. once there i received a phone call from someone there trying to upsale me saying i needed spark plugs i said i did them myself so no. then he said i needed a transmission reverse flush i said no i got that at the dealer all i want is the oil change for $125.00 he said ok. 15 mins later my girlfriend phones saying the oil change after taxes was $169.00. i talked to someone that identified himself as the manager but would not give his name. he began listing a whole bunch of extra charges that he obviously hid from me and my girlfriend to a total of $169.00. i would like to pay only $125.00 before taxes therefore i want a refund of what the amount of $125.00 would be after taxes. i mean they did the job and should be paid for that but for the amount agreed to on the phone.Business Response

First visit ,I went to MrLube located at North Vancouver Bc On Mar 07-2023 around 5:00 pm for a simple and quick oil change, as they promised quick, safe and professional service. I have been guided to the spot seating inside the car for 45 minutes hearing and feeling grinding under my car, I got a bit nervous called the teenager who acting like rep and asked for details about what is going on with my car, he told me that:Sir we are very sorry the guy under neath is NEW GUY because our MASTER is not here tonight he is not comfortable , he can not open your engine drain plug, he is trying one more time do not worry! Another 15 minutes pass grinding still there and call the rep again he said you have to come back tomorrow, sorry.Second visit, I went back on Mar-09-2023around 5 pm with my ******** presenting at the time, I explained my condition to a teenage rep, he showed me sorry face 15 min later he came back and told me the plug is not opening and he suggested that I should take the car to dealer ship, I asked to see the manager , another 15 min took till a mechanic was at my window, he said where ever you did oil change they damaged your plug , told him it happened here two days ago he insist and told me that he is doing a favour to me by trying to change the oil , finally they vacuumed some oil from the top of the engine (see the pic) filled up with new oil without changing the filter told me that I am good to go$174 was charged to my bank card .I left the store 70 minutes after arrival.10 min later On the highway suddenly something came out of the engine rolling under my tires shaking the car we panicked and I was able to control the car and pulled over to see what happened, Engine cover plate was not there, I walked back and found it on the highway , picked it up and called them , some one answered and asked me to bring it back , at the door same mechanic came a cross and told me I have to take the car to the last place I changed the oil, shameBusiness Response

Hi,
This customer came in for service and we told him that the last place that did the oil change stripped his drain plug. He insisted he need an oil change so we used the oil extractor machine to extract his oil.
The skid plate in question is not the one that covers his drain plug.
30,000 km between oil changes and wasnt even our filter on the vehicle.
We wrote a incident report and the picture of the oil filter.
We had nothing to do with his drain plug being stripped as he has been else where between services. we had nothing to do with any of the issues that happened to his car.

Name: ************************ ***************** ******************************** Vancouver Invoice: ******** Date of repair: 04/20/2022 Hello Thank you for taking the time to review my complaint. I am extremely frustrated and have lost all patience with this matter. I need answers. On 04/20/2022, I visited Mr. **** because of a sound coming from my engine. They looked at my car and said: "Belt and pully for the alternator need to be changed, and adding rear breaks the total came to $992.31. I paid the amount in full, then asked: when can I pick up my car? They said: "5 p.m.". When I returned to get my car, the mechanic told me that they could not fix the problem because it was not the belt and pully as they assumed, but the alternator itself was the problem. So I was left there wondering, so what becomes of the money I've spent already? Now while I'm standing at my car wondering what to do, another mechanic comes to me, he was not the one that worked on or diagnosed my car in the morning. This ********, whom I never saw again after that day, brought a stethoscope, put it to my ear, and connected the other end to the alternator. He said: "see, you can hear that it's the alternator making the noise". I said: "thank you for showing me and recognizing the problem, but I have already paid for parts that didn't need to be changed. What do I do??? He smiled at me while shrugging his shoulders, turned his back, and walked away! That was quite strange to me! So I found the manager and asked him, the stethoscope clearly shows the problem area, so why didn't you use this for your initial diagnosis? He asked me: "who gave you the stethoscope?" Also strange! I told him who it was, is irrelevant to my problem, and that was not the question I asked! I want to know why I've been charged for unwanted parts and labor. He would not, could not give me a logical explanation and so, to this date, I have yet to be given a reasonable answer. Not only have I not been given an answer but I've been disrespectfully passed around between the store manager, store owner, and Mr. ****** complaint departments, who never return my calls. All while I have to work a full-time job 9 am to 9 pm Mon through Fri. I have no time to deal with this and I feel as if I've been robbed. Furthermore, I called Mr. ****** head office (Ms. ******* in *********** a few weeks ago and to her surprise, she said: "they have no record of my complaint". All while I'm thinking they are reviewing my complaint and making an effort to solve my problem. She found this very Ironic because as she said, they cover all complaints and so therefore she should be aware of mine as well. She gave me an email address to write the store owner first to see if he would respond to my complaint. I spoke with him and updated him with all-inclusive information, he promised to call me back within a week, it's been over three months now, and I have yet to hear from him. It seems as if no one wants to trouble themselves to solve my problem.I was not provided a reasonable answer, they did not deliver a working vehicle, I was charged 900+ dollars, and I'm still waiting on a solution! Please contact me as soon as possible. I've been ignored since April! This is very disrespectful and unprofessional. Thank you ****************Business Response

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because:
Sincerely,
****************************The store owner/manager knows about the records. I have tried to get them but the shop that changed my belt last has closed permanently. The person who then worked there and issued the receipt, now works at ********s directly across the street. I've talked to him. He said since the shop is closed he cant issue a receipt anymore but he would be willing to vouch for me. He even remembered the kilometers to close proximity.
The last time I spoke with Mr. **** store manager, I told him about this, he said he will go over and talk to ********s, then call me back. He has yet to do so. The store manager has promised to call me back 3 times, and he did not, what's funny is Kal tires headquarters doesn't even call back when they promise.
Fact: when a car is making a winding/grinding noise its common sense that a spin motion is being restricted/ball bearings being grinded. Does the belt restrict or make grinding noise??? NO! The pully remains, the pully was examined by *** upon my first visit to complain about the work and he accepted the fact that pully didn't need change either.
So what remains is alternator. Had the guy that showed me the source of the noise with a stethoscope diagnosed my car the first time my car would have been fixed perfectly, which Ironically, I never saw him again.
Unfortunately some kid was my so called mechanic.
I'm not happy Mr. ***** Either give me my money back or imburse me with credit.
It's sad that I have to go through the BBB to get in contact with you.
Since you forgot, I'm still waiting on your call.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is unsatisfactory to me.I don't know why I have to prove myself to anyone about anything. They made a bad diagnosis on my car, got me to pay before the car was fixed and when time came for pickup they had failed to fix the car.
What is so confusing about this. I was robbed and that is a fact. You asked for proof that the belt had been changed, I told you the shop has been closed. I wrote ****************, the owner of Urban garage and he told me that all records have been cleared and cannot be provided to me any longer.
Coming to Mr. **** was a grave mistake. I will always share my experience with anyone I can.
I will post my opinion online every week and I will tell all consumers about my experience there. What else can I do?
When this happened, at first Raj the manager there was offering store credit. I declined, then after a week or two he only offered to give me credit for pully only. That is where the shafting process began I presume.
Hah... I don't know how you guys do business but you taught me a great ******* If I want to find unprofessional work done on my car, I'll know where to go.

However, BBB does not verify the accuracy of information provided by third parties, and does not guarantee the accuracy of any information in Business Profiles.
When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.
BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.
As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
