Hi Tammy,
Sorry to hear that your experience with Shapes was less than positive.
Similar to cell phone agreements, internet and cable, all memberships after the contracted term are subject to a pay as you go basis (month to month) until you cancel without further solicitation as stated in your membership agreement.
It looks as though we received your cancellation and your membership expired in August. Your membership is currently past due and you had expressed that you were not going to make the payments beginning of August.
Should you wish to return to Shapes, we would be happy to honor the time at no charge to you. Notes will be left on your file.
Best of luck with your future fitness endeavors.Review fromD. D.

Will never consider Shapes again, when I'm ready to utilize a public gym. Member communication/service is absolutely terrible + Shapes has zero integrity. Given one star because the equipment itself does what you need.
- Year ended and they reached out to tell me that I had money owing
- May 29: Responded to email that I will come in + pay, but asked that my email be considered my 30-day cancellation.
- May 29: Written email denied as cancellation, informed I had to come in person because there was a form that needed to be signed. (Kelsey ***** on behalf of Shapes Portage)
- Jun 11: Attend in person to cancel + square up. Paid. Clarified completely done and that I wouldn't owe anything further. Told that there was actually 1 more payment; slightly annoyed that she didn't include it with my payment because I was clear that I wanted to pay everything; paid my final payment.
- Jul 6: Email from Shapes that payment was overdue; responded to email re. my experience in the centre on June 11 and that the staff had confirmed that I would be completely done; rec'd response that "unfortunately" the staff didn't have me make the final payment, along with my two receipts from that day (Tina, ******* ******); I responded with a request that the specific Shapes location be contacted because I was very clear when I attended in person that day and I was assured to be done, once again detailing my experience.
- Jul 24: Over 2 weeks after receiving no response from Shapes, received an email from Shapes that a payment was overdue, and a duplicate email on July 31.
- Aug 1: Emailed Shapes requesting contact info for management + the name of the staff on June 11; Rec'd email from Kelsey apologizing that the final payment wasn't taken + providing me with e-transfer info; I responded, asking if any steps have been taken looking into the events + what occurred; staff no longer works at Shapes; Kelsey ***** advises they can revoke my signed cancellation + make me mail in written notice.Shapes Fitness Centres

Hi Dawn,
Sorry to hear that your experience with Shapes was less than positive.
Our membership agreements are for an annual term. After the 1 year, of a cancellation is not received, the membership continues on a pay as you go basis - month to month until you cancel. This is standard for all health clubs and is subject to a 30 days notice to terminate.
We apologize for the miscommunication you received in terms of cancelling your membership agreement, however, should you return in the future, Shapes would like to honor 30 days complimentary for you to cover the notice period you paid and did not use.
Thank you for understanding and hope we can welcome you back to the club in the future.

It seems that you didn't read or understand the issues noted. I am aware, and have no argument against the fact that my membership continued past the year and that I was therefore charged for it. It was the many issues I encountered after, when it came to paying it and formally cancelling, that was the issue.Review fromPriya K

******* *** **** ****** ** ***** ******** ******** ******* ** **** *** **** **** *** ***** ** while joining the gym I had an full conversation with the staff about the cancellation policy but when actually I am trying to cancel it they are not agreeing but actually getting rude and misbehaving with the customers as I still remember that I haven’t been to the gym once so it’s more easy to cancel. But yes they don’t agree with the customers but just wanna **** them with the term called “ ONE YEAR MEMBERSHIP” which actually doesn’t make any sense what if someone dies ,get seriously injured or gets bankrupt while still have to pay . Like basically this was even clear to the staff by me while joining the gym that I might have to move to a different city or while go back to my hometown at that moment they told me “ ohh it’s fine you can cancel any moment even before the one year plan as I am an international student who is maybe not living in Canada for long but “ they totally agree while making me join but later now when I am actually asking for help they are just arguing or just misbehaving over the phone calls or the personal visits too . * ***** **** ***** **** *** ***** **** ** ***** **** *Shapes Fitness Centres

Good Afternoon Aazra,
We have received your concern through BBB.
I want to remind you that all of our memberships have 3 terms to come in on - Short term (minimum commitment of 3 months), Pay as you go and our annual. The annual membership comes in at the lowest price point and that is the agreement that you chose. That membership does not have an early cancellation.
You have spoken to many staff at the club and they informed you that you could transfer your membership agreement. Please note that you also purchased a membership with personal training - with this membership you also booked sessions and received the 1st month free. In that first month, there was multiple calls and texts from the trainer to you about coming in and booking your appointments, we did not hear from you until the 1st payment went through your bank account and you asked for a reduction in training sessions or the option to pay on your credit card.
If you need copies of the agreement that you signed for, we would be happy to resend them to you.
Alternatively you could use any of our IPFA affiliated facilities.Review fromAshley R

1 starI am not impressed by the way Shapes conducts its business. I have informed Shapes that I want to cancel my membership (1 yrs)because I’m moving to another province after month. They said will cancel but I have to pay. I told them I will pay for 3 months. I have no idea before they don’t have locations in other provinces which is my bad. I told them please help me out in this but no help. I told them i will pay for 3 months or give me transfer to other gym but totally denied. Moving out to different province without job really hard to me to pay when i am not using their facilities. You should at-least understand the situation or find out any solution.Review fromJsi C

I signed up with Shapes fully wanting to workout. They had a new year’s deal so I said hey why not. Out of nowhere, I had to move to a different province. I spoke with staff of Shapes and told them my situation and was told that I didn’t need to cancel my membership but rather get it transferred to one of the gyms under **** which is totally fine by me, they told me all I needed to do was go to one of the gyms in the new province I’m going to living at and show my contract and that’s it. Come the day I spoke with one of the gyms under **** in my new province and they told me that they have no clue what I’m talking about and that they are no longer part of **** which no one told me about from SHAPES. This leaves me with NO CHOICE but to cancel my membership. Now shapes is telling me that I cannot cancel my membership and that I can only transfer it to an immediate family member back in my old province WHICH I DONT HAVE ANY.

Good Afternoon,
You enrolled online on our website on ************* and not with a membership consultant. Shapes is affiliated with the ************* ******** ******* *********** - we have an obligation to transfer your membership to any affiliated fitness facility in association with **************. If the business on that site do not honor your agreement, it is reported to the **** - we would be happy to contact the association on your behalf if you would prefer that route.

I signed a year membership and when my contract was up I notified Shapes that I will no longer be using their facilities. They continued to charge my account, I had to contact my bank to block them for taking any more money. Fast forward to today, it is still sitting on my credit and I have tried to reach out to Shapes and to Citadel Credit and get no response. I guess my next step now is to put in a complaint with Equifax and fight it that way. *************************************************************** ***************************** ********************************Shapes Fitness Centres
