I am very happy with how she arranged the sections of the multi-use space. Karly is so easy to work with. She is transparent and was very patient with my endless questions which often came in multiple emails. She addressed each of my concerns and made sure they were resolved to my liking. We did a main floor and ensuite full renovation and we absolutely love it! Her crew are very skilled, trustworthy and easy to talk to. They also took the time to work on any questions I had. The process of working with Karly took the joy out of my brand new kitchen.
It first started when Karly neglected to send me an email with the start date for our project. I reached out before a vacation to see if there was a tentative start date *** *** ******** **** ****** * **** *** ******** This pattern of poor communication and lack of responsibility continued throughout the project.
We had some small details that we wanted fixed so we brought them to Karly’s attention. We were consistently told everything was to “industry standard”. No solutions were proposed so we had to find solutions ourselves. *** ******** ** ********* *** *** ***** ***** *** ***** ******** ** ****** ** *** ***** *** **** **** ******* ** *** ****** ** **** ******* **** * ***** *** ****** ********* ***** *********** *** * *** **** **** ** *** **** ******** **** ***** ******* *** *********** ** ***** ** ******* ***** ******** ** ********** ** ******* ********** ** *** ********
We had one major problem with the floating floor Karly chose for the kitchen. I am truly sorry to hear about your experience, as it’s not representative of the high standards we strive to uphold. Our reputation is built on our expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to quality. We pride ourselves on delivering professionalism, respect, and thorough follow-through in all interactions, as our clients rightly deserve.
I understand that there were some challenges during your project, such as unforeseen absences and a flooring issue. It is disheartening to hear you say you had to “fight” to get it fixed. We discussed these matters openly at the time, and I’m disappointed to see how they’ve been characterized. The accusations and statements presented in the review do not align with our typical approach and seem to misrepresent our interactions.
Over the course of 9.5 months, I put significant effort into redesigning and re-budgeting your project to meet your needs. We revised the design 11 times, far beyond the standard process, to ensure your vision could come to life within your budget constraints. This extensive collaboration was not reflected in the review, which leaves out many positive aspects of our work together.
We met on May 27th 2022 to look at your space. We commenced the project on April 4th 2023, almost an entire year from our initial email. The project was completed on May 24th, 2023 with only minor touch-ups and agreed-upon revisions outstanding. The review inaccurately suggests an 8-month delay, which misrepresents the actual timeline. Furthermore, I covered all costs associated with resolving the flooring issue, including twice replacing it to meet your satisfaction, even after you signed off on the work. Our commitment to quality is clear, as we went above and beyond to ensure the floor was repaired and functioning as expected. The added scope of work like vapor barrier and insulating the exterior wall properly and new baseboards throughout the entire house were also completed within this same time frame I want to mention.
Regarding your comments on the under-cabinet wiring, we had a thorough discussion about budget constraints and the use of wire covers as a cost-effective solution. Suggesting that we ignored this aspect is misleading, nor was this a deficiency. The undermount lighting red wire is standard electrical low voltage wire, we cannot control the tubing color that comes from the manufacturer.
As you can see from the detailed timeline below, we were in constant communication throughout the project. To ensure we did the best on our end, I went through the exercise of going through our email communications. I have a separate detailed page of 83 email correspondence with timelines. Each email outside of 1 was answered within a 3-business day turn around time. Your accusation of poor communication and lack of responsibility is, therefore, surprising and disheartening. I took every measure to ensure your satisfaction, even covering costs that were not within the original scope of work as you wanted to do them yourself to save money.
• April 22, 2022- First email from Christine
• May 27th- First site visit
• Aug 12th- first quote sent with 3 design options
• Oct 8th- first revisions made (4th and 5th design options presented)
• Oct 11th- met in person to see other kitchens
• Oct 13th- sent 6th design with more revisions and you wrote “All this attention to detail is overwhelming, thank you for helping me navigate through this, you are awesome”
• Oct 19th- 7th revision sent
• Oct 20th- 8th revision sent
• Oct 24th- confirmation of 9th revision and repricing project
• Oct 28th- 10th revision and repricing project
• Oct 29th you wrote “thank you for your thoughtful response”
• Oct 31st- revision #11 and you wrote “You’ve been amazing”.
• Nov 11th- final revision with 3D renderings resent.
• Throughout November multiple emails were sent back and forth discussing lighting options. No interior design charges were issued.
• Dec 21st- revised scope of work again and adjusted quote.
• Dec 22nd- removed painting from scope of work but still received free design advice with choosing paint colors.
• Dec 23rd- another revision to scope of work and contract signed.
• Jan 9th ,2023- Took bench out of scope of work because of cost.
• Jan 16th- revisited Bench options.
• Jan 17th-free design advice pertaining to furniture and blinds.
• Jan 19th-free design advice pertaining to draperies.
• Jan 31st- another bench design and quote.
• Feb 26th- found bench at ***** **** and removed bench from scope of work again.
• Mar 23rd-responded to email about schedule.
• Mar 24th- confirmation of schedule and we informed you to “hold off on painting until the end in case of dings”.
• April 4th- demolition started and you wrote “so happy the demo went smoothly”.
• April 5th- you wrote “Jason was really impressed with your crew when he met them” and asked to quote replacing baseboards.
• April 27th- you wrote “your crew continues to be amazing to work with”.
• April 30th- baseboards were approved and added to scope of work.
• May 2nd- you asked my subtrades to quote additional work outside of our scope without informing me.
• May 3rd- fisheyes were pointed out and we explained that was poor wall preparation from the painters scope of work which was not in our scope
• May 11th- you wrote “everything is looking really good” and sent photos of millwork damages.
• May 12th- replacements of damaged millwork were ordered.
• May 18th- Michelle had site visit with you.
• May 21st- you wrote “we are thrilled with how the kitchen is turning out”.
• May 23rd- site visit with Jason.
• May 24th- received list of deficiencies.
• May 29th- discussed transition options (Millworkers wife was in the hospital and couldn’t be present)
• June 5th- We issued a refund for additional material.
• June 7th- you wrote “I do love how the final product has turned out and everyone who comes over is absolutely awe struck at the transformation”.
• June 9th- Millworker returned to make adjustments and obtain custom dining table measurements.
• June 19th- table was dropped off and you wrote “Just fantastic”
• June 21st- Millworker informed you that he would return after his holidays in July to address flooring concerns – you agreed.
• June 26th- final invoice was sent. I responded to your accusations of not responding to an email, by informing you that I responded to a different email sent that same day since numerous emails were sent the same day
• June 28th- payment received
• August 15-16th- Flooring was removed and hump in floor was sanded and leveled to repair lifting in front of fridge which was not in our scope. Flooring sign off form was signed by both you and worker.
• Aug 22nd- A third party was sent to look at flooring and you wrote “Paul validated our concerns and was a pleasure to deal with”
• Sept 13th- you inquired about flooring and we informed you that our supplier still had not provided us with a date
• Sept 14th- followed up again with our supplier
• Sept 19th- confirmation of third follow up with our supplier
• Sept 27th- followed up again
• Oct 6th-received response from our supplier. Once again the client contacted our supplier without a prior conversation
• Oct 10th- solution was chosen and new product was ordered
• Oct 20th- delivery date was given and you wrote “thanks, appreciate the update”
• Nov 6th-delivery of floor product because you were not available on the 3rd
• Nov 7th-update #3 was sent and flooring was removed. Discovery of floor joist sagging occurred which caused lifting and not faulty installation
• Repair of subfloor at no charge and install of new transitions
• Nov 8th- new floor was installed
• Nov 16th- touch up and baseboard painting and caulking at no charge and not in our scope of work
We had multiple site visits and meetings throughout the project and I thought we had resolved everything properly and to your satisfaction. I regret that you feel this way after working together for over a year. I am a small business owner who takes pride in my work, yet I’m also a person with feelings. I aim to conduct myself professionally at all times, and I am saddened by how this experience has unfolded. After spending a few months planning my "simple" kitchen with my cabinetmaker, I felt I really needed a kitchen design expert to review the plan before I moved ahead with the build. I am so glad I found Style Kitchen Design and Karly! Karly reviewed my plans and sat with me, in my space, to discuss and assess my particular situation. Karly took my plans from "okay" to "amazing"! The design became much more functional with better storage and flow, and her suggestions for the upper cabinets and other details made the overall space much more cohesive and visually interesting. We hired Karly at Style Kitchen Design for our kitchen reno and we are absolutely thrilled with what was delivered! From the first meeting with Karly and Michelle (project manager), we knew we were going to get a quality product. Karly was mindful of our budget, but with all of her great ideas, we made the decision to go bigger than initially planned...no regrets! When we received the initial plans, (we loved the 3-D rendering!) we requested some changes which Karly completed quickly.
Because our project was a large undertaking, it took quite awhile with numerous trades people in and out of the house for months. Every single person that Karly sent to our house was friendly, respectful and knowledgeable, and they always cleaned up before leaving for the day. Michelle checked in regularly and answered questions we had along the way, connecting with Karly whenever necessary.

This was immediately clear by her questions, her comments as she checked out our kitchen cupboards, and how she responded to our questions. Once she was ready to start, we received a detailed printout on which trades would be in our home daily. She made our dream kitchen come to life, she was always on the ball with every aspect of this project which we were more then grateful for as this was our first Reno project we’ve ever had in our home. She made it an easy, satisfying and an overall enjoyable experience for us.
