I ordered $300 worth of oil from Aabel Fuels for delivery on February 13, 2025, with the “pay at door” option. In the order notes, I included two phone numbers and asked the driver to call or knock so I could meet him to pay.

On February 13, I was informed that the delivery couldn’t be made because the driver was sick. I understood. However, the next day, I received another call from Aabel Fuels stating that the roads were unsafe, and the next available delivery would be on February 18, 2025. I explained that my oil wouldn’t last until then, and the representative suggested I either find another company or fill some jugs with diesel from the gas station. I found another company who filled my tank and I canceled my order with Aabel Fuels.

On February 18, I received a call from Aabel Fuels claiming that a new driver had made the delivery, despite my order being canceled. They stated that the driver hadn’t read the order properly and had filled my tank with $300 worth of oil, demanding payment. The driver neither called nor knocked on the door as per my instructions. He didn’t contact me in any way, even though it’s a “pay at door” arrangement.

The driver filled the oil Into an old, disconnected tank that is scheduled for removal this spring. I realized that I now have $300 worth of oil in a tank that’s not in use.

Now, Aabel Fuels is demanding payment for a mistake they made. My father, 76 years old and living on a small pension of $2,100 a month to support himself and his wife, and I, unemployed and on a tight budget, simply cannot afford this charge.

I believe Aabel Fuels should cancel this demand for payment and take responsibility for their error. We should not be forced to pay for a delivery that was made to the wrong tank, without following the agreed-upon procedures. Additionally, I am unsure how to dispose of the oil in the unused tank.
They could either remove it and taking the oil back or fix this mistake by helping to empty the tank.

      Business Response

      Hi,

I just looked into this account in question, and from what I see we have already written this balance off due to the phone conversation we had with the Daughter of *** *****. If there has been a misunderstanding then this should straighten that out. At this time there is no balance owing.

Also please note, until this moment, we were never informed it went into the wrong tank. I believe that to be false information, yet it doesn't affect the end result of us acknowledging the payment issue at door at time of delivery.

       Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ** ********, and I find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
I appreciate the quick response. My reason for reaching out like this had been the letter mailed to me (I've included an attachment). I did ask the person on the phone which fill line the driver used, when she asked why, i said that one fill pipe leads to an old tank. She simply said we'll investigate, and then a letter arrived with remaining balance written on it and total. It looks like an invoice, if it's not then I'm sorry but I hope you can understand how a person would think that.
