In 2021 I received a phone call from **** * ******* *** a local ***** Real Estate agent office to place an ad on their sales folders which they hand out to home buyers. Pro Pacific DKI is a locally owned property restoration and we believed this to be a valuable, local marketing idea that would help us grow our visibility in the ********** market.
However, it turns out that the company we were contracting with is not "Anchor ***** - Frank Farely Realtor" but Corporate Communications. As part of the marketing folders, they offered a free link to our website on *************************************************
We signed up for the brochures, signed the contract and paid our $1044. However, the fine print on the contract stated that the webpage link would auto-renew in a year if we did not cancel within 60 days of the renewal date. The only notification I received that this happened was a $290.00 charge on my credit card on June 29, 2022. I contacted multiple people at Corporate Communications to inquire and explain that we NEVER intended to renew the website link and we wanted to cancel and be refunded, **** **** ***** *********** and maintain that the charge is valid as we signed the contract.
While I understand auto-renew clauses are legal in Canada, there needs to be prior notification before any company charges a credit card. Moreover, it was never the service we intended to purchase! It was a free "ad-on" to the original hard copy folder advertisement. Lastly, $290 for a website link with zero traffic on it is not a service we would ever consider buying. We have tried repeatedly to have the charge reversed but calls and emails have not been returned.
