I inquired on ********* regarding an advertisement that was identifying government grants for home renovations. My request was for information regarding flooring. I was informed they could definitely help me and 3 days later two salespeople arrived at my door asking me for documents regarding my heating and cooling systems. They were very hard sell and had pressured me to buy into an energy assessment to see if I was eligible for government grants for a heat pump. (There was a lot of positioning about how saving money over here, could help me over there, and they wanted to know if I had money on a line of credit).I bought into the energy audit (although I was second guessing my decision after the fact). Three days later (after the weekend), the same salespeople arrived, and an energy "auditor". I received no name, company information from the auditor and at the end of the assessment, the same salespeople wanted me to commit to spend ****** for a heat pump. I declined. I felt at the time that I could still benefit from the assessment and was informed I should receive my report within three weeks. It is now 3 months later, and email asking for my report or a refund, and I have received no response.I am concerned that this business is fraudulent. I would like my money returned, OR a formal assessment report.

    Business Response

    Date: 24/04/2024

    Dear *********************,

I hope this email finds you well.

I am writing to address the concerns you recently raised, particularly regarding what you termed as "fraudulent accusations." At Mada Construction, we take such accusations very seriously and believe it is crucial to address them promptly and transparently.

First and foremost, I want to clarify the nature of the advertisement you referenced. The advertisement you filled out was for the rebate programs available within ******* at the time. These rebates, which could amount to up to $10,000, were offered upon completion of an initial energy audit. However, it's essential to note that this audit was not conducted by Mada Construction. Instead, your audit was carried out by Akinspections, and their contact information is available at ************************.

Furthermore, I've included additional references to illustrate the process. Attached is a picture highlighting the cost of the assessment, which was $600. This information is available on the website ***************************************************************************************************************************************.

It's important to clarify that Mada Construction did not sell you anything after your audit. Essentially, you received an audit from a different company to qualify for government rebates for home improvement work. We have not provided any other services to you, and specifically, we have not performed any services for which we have received payment.

If your initial experience with us was unsatisfactory, we sincerely apologize. We strive to maintain a high level of professionalism and customer satisfaction in all our interactions. However, we want to assure you that any accusations of fraudulent behavior on our part are baseless and unfounded.

Please know that we value your trust and are committed to resolving any misunderstandings. If we are somehow mistaken, we want to ensure that we are thorough in our investigation. Could you please provide the bank statement receipt or proof of where the $600 that was charged has gone? This will help us track down the specific company that charged you and address any discrepancies accordingly.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us. We are committed to addressing any issues you may have and maintaining the integrity of our reputation.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

    Warm regards,
    Mada Construction

I am rejecting this response because:  My payment was made to MadaConstruction.  Who, from what I understood, was responsible for and partnered with the inspections company to which you refer.

Since my money was paid to mada, my expectations are that mada is responsible for this information.   In fact, one of the Mada salespeople was training with the company that was doing the inspections.

I also want to clarify that the person with whom I spoke on the phone knew I was looking for a flooring job.  I must say that the way it was explained when the salespeople arrived at my house was quite the crooked path (pun intended).

I referred to this deal as a "shell game".   ""You take your money and put it here.  We benefit from you paying us to do an 11,000$ job to install a heat pump and then you "should" get the money back from the grants.   At which time you take that money and purchase your flooring job from us."

I paid the $600 in good faith informing the salespeople that I was not committing to anything more.   I also looked into heat pumps and saw that it is not ideal to get a heat pump on an old furnace....exactly the opposite of what the salespeople told me.

So, once again, I will use the term fraudulent.  What was promised in that I would receive a report for the energy assessment, was not delivered, and I have nothing to show for the 600$ I paid to Mada construction.

    Sincerely,

    *********************

    Dear *********************,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to touch base regarding the recent payment of $600 made towards an audit from AKInspections. It appears there might be some confusion surrounding this payment.

Firstly, I'd like to clarify that the audit you've participated in is part of a program called the Greener Homes ****** This initiative aims to promote energy-efficient upgrades in residential properties, offering rebates to homeowners who undertake such improvements. As part of the process, a payment of $600 is required for the audit, which serves as the first step in accessing these rebates.

However, it's important to note that Mada Construction is not directly involved in this program. If you decide not to proceed with any upgrades following the audit, our company won't benefit nor have any dealings in this matter.

To provide further clarity, I've included a link to the Greener Homes Grant ******** where you can find more information about the initiative, including the details regarding the audit payment and the rebates available:

If you have any questions or need additional assistance regarding this matter, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to help and ensure that everything is clear and straightforward for you.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I am rejecting this response because: Mada Construction representatives showed me an example of a report that would be provided to me once the audit was completed.   In addition, when I spoke with the same representative after I declined to go forward with the upgrades, I asked him how long it might take for me to receive said report.  He stated that it would take "about 6 weeks".

So, somewhere along the line, information was misleading at the least.

Since AKIN Inspections was arranged by your company, and since promises were made to me by your company, I do expect that at the very least your company will continue to be the intermediary to find an acceptable solution to my concerns.

I had close to no communication with the individual who came from the other company, and as I said in my previous email, it was obvious that the relationships between Mada Construction reps and the inspector were well established.

I await your reply and assistance in this matter.

    Dear *********************,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to confirm that you did pay for the audit that was performed on your home. The benefits of this audit come into play when you proceed with work that falls under the Greener Homes ***** rebates or the government 0% loan. Unfortunately, once an audit is completed, it cannot be undone.

If you don't mind us asking, are you not looking to do any work, or have you already completed some work in your home since the audit? Understanding your plans will help us provide any further assistance you may need.

Thank you for choosing Mada Construction. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to assisting you further.

I am rejecting this response because:

I am not asking for the audit to be undone.   I am asking for the promised report to be honoured.

If I do choose to go ahead with any work on my house, are you telling me it only applies if I go with your company?

Again that was not the message I received at the time.

With the audit report, should I not be able to access work from another company?   If not, then I am even more convinced that the relationship with the auditing company is incestuous.

Once again I am asking for the report that was promised by your company be provided.  From my perspective, what I learn from it or do with it should be my decision

I did get the attached email from Mada Construction. However, I have responded to them that even though the techs did check out the unit it is NOT functioning as  promised. It was supposed to heat 2200 sq feet and it only heats a small portion of one hallway. Even the tech that came out said he does not understand why it is not heating as promised. I could have got the same heating from a $50 heat at *******. This matter is not resolved since the unit is not heating as promised. They keep saying it is resolved and it is not. The heater is not heating even close to 2200 sq feet.

I do not want this complaint closed until the heater actually heats the main floor as they promised.
