I wish to file a complaint against Paramount Camera Repair **** *** ****** ******** ******* * *** *** **** *** *** *** ***** **** I provided Paramount with a lens to get repaired I paid the estimation cost and repair cost ($***) promptly.
All was well at the beginning but I soon found myself constantly asking for updates and never getting one. All I got was that the item was “in shipping” and would leave soon which never happened.
I vented my frustration on Nov 14th which triggered a reply (not happy). Then it was silence (except for vacation automated replies) until I ********** to contact the BBB last week. And then the lies started again (item in shipping, leaving soon …).
This has been going on since early August, so for 7+ months. Very frustrating
The lens I gave them to repair is a vintage Leica summilux 35mm fetching about $**** used. So not a cheap item.

Camera sent out to Paramount Cameras for repairs. They gave me a estimate on the repairs . I paid the bill . They keep telling me it is fixed and will ship the next week but i have not seen it as yet. they do not return my text or emails etherInitial Complaint

I purchased a used lens from this company on January 6, 2024. The lens was shortly listed as shipped and a tracking number from ****** **** was emailed to me. The order number is #**** and the tracking number ***************** The tracking number on ****** **** had always shown a shipping label has been created, not that the item was deposited to ****** ****. Nevertheless, I contacted the shop after the expected delivery date and they confirmed that the item was picked up shortly after the label was created. I have the message correspondence on Jan 22, 2024. I contacted them again on Jan 25, 2024 to see if there had been any update and they replied no updates.
I messaged them again asking for a refund, which they did say they would file a claim with ****** **** and refund me. This was done on the website live message so I don't have an email. However, some time has passed and I never received a refund. Then I messaged them on Feb 23, 2024 inquiring about the refund and they said that "it was still showing as as processing at their end and they would email their tech support to see what's going on." That would be the last time I heard from them.
As of Dec 24, 2024, I still have not yet received the refund. I have contacted them at least twice a month regarding this issue, both through their online website chat function, which was how I got responses before, and through their phone via text. They do not answer phone calls. I've emailed them a couple of times as well. There has been no response since. I would really appreciate the refund as it was $******.

Sent my ***** ****** lens in for evaluation on June 23/23.
Shipped from Lumby BC to Paramount in Saskatoon.
They received and told me that the focus motor needed replacement on June 29th, which followed the problems I was having with it.
Quoted $648.80 total $270 parts, $360 Labour, taxes and return shipping.
I accepted the price quote and paid the invoice #****_2023-06-28 on June 29/23, in order to get it repaired.
Was told that the motor parts needed to be re-ordered in Aug.
Was told it was on the bench for assembly Sept 25.
Was told it was to be aligned Oct 23 and they would get back to me on the 24th.
Nothing has been heard from them since.
Just want my lens fixed and returned or if not fixed returned with a refund.

Hello:
I have finally received my lens back and have tested it.
All seems to work as it should, will be doing a full excursion with it this upcoming weekend.
I would suspect that we can close this one, as product has been delivered.
They do need to work on their communication skills in regards to keeping customers updated.

Contacted Paramount Camera per recommendation. Here's the summary of the events :
Jan 4th, 2022 - Initial inquiry. The repair price quoted is $160 for the top plate and $180 for 2 hours of labor.
Jun 29th - 2nd inquiry. The camera was sent to ********************** from Victoria, BC.
August 12th - The shutter button is broken (confirmed during diagnostics). Repair would be $45 in parts and $360 for 4 hrs of labor. Told them that the quote is different than the original.
August 13th - They said the top plate is not in stock and is back ordered. We have decided to continue with repair for the new quoted price.
August 23rd - checked on the status of the repair. No reply.
August 25th - They said they're closed until September 2nd.
September 6th - They just opened after a long weekend. They said that the "new button is ready to install and it's on the bench. It should be heading back this week"
September 23rd - checked on the status of the repair. They said the new button didn't fix the issue, they don't know how long it will take to fix and get a new part. I asked to send the camera back.
October 5th - received the camera.
October 11th - tested the camera and found that EVF is not working and is stuck. They said that that camera was tested and they will provide proof (video of a working camera), but failed to do so. They recommended doing a full reset of the camera and seeing if that helps. I did that and it helped. However, after further testing I found another issue - taking a picture at f-stop below 8 will result in an out-of-focus image. I have decided to send the camera to ******** for full diagnostics.
December 8th - received a quote from ******************* that indicated that the top cover and lens assembly should be replaced. The lens assembly issue was not present when the camera was originally sent to Paramount Camera and appeared only after the camera was received back from them.
I could provide proof of horrible communication on Paramount Camera's side.Business Response

We don't have a record of an *********** for a customer but we assume you are refering to *************'s ******* camera.
Since the initial inquiry and estimate repair cost was in January and the camera wasn't sent in until half a year later, we no longer had the top plate to replace and a more costly repair to the circuit board itself was necessary.
We communicated this to ******* with the option to wait on the back-ordered cheaper part but she chose to do the more expensive repair. The camera ended up having more failures in the top pcb than expected and couldn't be economically repaired so we reassembled it, tested it and returned it.
You were fully refunded for all repairs and parts.
The only thing disassembled was the top plate which we have pictures and videos of before, during and after.
The lens assembly does not need disassembly for the shutton butter or top pcb repair. And it was never touched.
It's impossible to know if it had a prior issue with the lens, was damaged after it's return or was damaged in shipping to us, back to you or when sent to ********.
We offered repeatedly to check it out for free if you were having issues with the EVF and assured you many times that we would gladly repair any issue caused by the reassembly of the top plate for free and pay for shipping.
It was never returned.
Unfortunately since you didn't pay for a repair, we never disassembled your lens, you didn't ever send it back and we never were able to see the camera again, there isn't anything we can do.
I'm sorry you are having issues with your camera repair with ******** but we did everything we could to try and resolve the problems with *******.
Unfortunately your lens issues, which we can't verify it has, has nothing to do with us removing the top plate to diagnose the disclosed problem.
