My wife and I are octogenarians who had an elevator installed in our home in 2011 to enable us to be self-sufficient longer than we woud be without an elevator in a 2-story house with 40 steps. We began experiencing slow elevator travel times leading to an evaluation by Team Elevator on Oct. 21, 2024. The problem was found to be a faulty relay in the control apparatus. The relay was obsolete, the manufacturer recommending that it be replaced with a different relay which would require a different circuit board. The cost of relay, circuit board, and labor was estimated to be $4,******. The most expensive item was the new board required to accommodate the different relay. My old circuit board was completely healthy. If a replacement relay could be found, a new board would not be needed.I proposed to Team Elevator that I would like to check with other elevator service facilities to see if anyone had an old relay on the back shelf, or an old matching RH-1000 controller being used for parts. To do this I would need the relay part number, which I asked them for. If this item could be found my costs would be fractional. I left my proposal with an employee who gave her email address as ******************************* and said she would get back in touch. I pointed out to her that if I could not find the obsolete relay I would have no choice but to comply with Team Elevator's $4, ****** proposal. I have not heard from her and no one answers my phone calls or emails.I cannot imagine what Team Elevator stands to lose by complying with my request. They certainly stand to gain a reputation for pure malevolence if the public is made aware of this incident.
