Aamco provides free diagnostics, which is a wonderful service. However, they do recoup their money on the back end. I brought my car in (2020 **** to get the clutch replaced. The shop dragged their feet when opening the claim which delayed service by a couple days. The shop manager informed me that the work is covered under warranty BUT the warranty company won't cover the entire cost of repairs. Aamco is charging $3,700 but the warranty company will cut a check for $2,300 for a total out of pocket expense of about $1,400 (all costs are rounded to nearest hundred for review purposes). I called the warranty company who states the work is covered 100% EXCEPT for the labor. The Aamco requested 8.7 hours but the warranty company will only cover 8 hours, as that is the industry standard. The warranty company looked over the estimate and notes again and stated there shouldn't be an out of pocket expense except for 0.7 labor hours. I went to the Aamco to discuss the discrepancy. The Aamco manager explains the $1,400 out of pocket expense as being the difference between their quote and what the warranty company will pay. The expense comes from their labor rate of $225/hour and the mark-up they do on parts so they can warranty them. The Aamco manager states that "no one will do that clutch job for what the warranty company will pay."I took my car and brought it right to the *** Dealership. They did diagnostics and agreed with the clutch work needed. They modified the claim and uploaded their estimate to get approval. The *** Dealership calls to provide the update and estimate of out of pocket expense of $0! I only owe the deductible! Aamco Transmissions in Surprise, AZ was trying to grow their pockets one young woman at a time.
