      My husband was in a skilled nursing facility recovering from a broken back. I thought Life Alert would be a good option to have when he would be discharged to home. Less than a week ago, a few days before the discharage, I contacted Life Alert, spoke with a very kind sales *** who explained the process. There would be an initial charge for the equipment, $248, and a monthly fee of $109 - he said that I could cancel anytime if I no longer required the service. I've never signed a contract either in person or electronically. The equipment was delivered yesterday, I haven't even opened the box. Since my husband has dementia, does not know how to use the phone, it appears he would not be able to use the pendant to call for help, It turns out that my husband will soon be moved to an assisted living/memory care facility with 24/7 monitoring. I called today to cancel the service and asked what I needed to do to return the unopened, unused box of equipment. I was transferred to my original sales contact, he kept trying to resell the system to me. He said I would not be refunded the original $248 because the system had already been programmed - hard to believe since I've never provided any contact names or numbers to call if the pendant was pushed, and I've never talked to anyone on the phone re programming - how was it programmed? I'm waiting for a call back as to how I return the equipment, but in the meantime thought I'd put it out there that $248 is a sizeable sum for a senior to forfeit. I would think that this whole process began less than a week ago I would be entitled to, if not the total amount, at least a partial refund.

      We understand your frustration.  We do our best to ensure that all new customers are aware of our non-refundable start-up fee.  Not only does your representative review this with you, but we also follow up with a confirmation call.  Our recorded call indicates that you agreed to the non-refundable set up fee. This cost is due to pre-programming of the system based on the protection package that was ordered, your husbands name and address.   We hope this information helps alleviate any confusion regarding this matter.

      Everyone at Life Alert was very helpful and patient. Setup was easy and the representatives took us step by step. My mom feels so much better knowing she can contact help with the press of a button. As for me ,it is a great relief knowing if anything happens mom has fast contact to help.

      From start to finish was amazing and very thorough. The initial contact person stated the life alert was transferable to another individual upon no longer needing, that is not true. Without the misinformation I would have given 5 stars.
