Recently received renewal letter indicating new amount would be $42.50 weekly. This is outrageous and shows a monopolistic behavior of ongoing rate increases where the nearest local competitor charges $7 / week and the NY Time regularly charges $20 weekly but is having a 50% off sale. This paper is by no means worth over 2400 annually where 90% of the paper is made of stories that come from the *** LA Times, NY Times, or other papers. However I did call and they offered to give me the daily paper at 14 per week, so unless you call and stand your ground they just keep raising your rate.

My *********** are long time subscribers to the ** Mercury News,We understand that costs rise. However, imagine our surprise when talking with numerous **************** about how much we all pay for our subscriptions. Our friends pay $201.35 or $253/year and we pay $393.75 every 8 weeks. and are also long time subscribers. How do you get the lower ******** call in and threaten to cancel or not renew. How do you get a higher rate.sign up for autopay and get majorly scammed like we did! My concern is solely based on a price that was higher than prices charged to others. Being a 1st time subscriber is randomly applied! We called in 1/16/25 to see why our bill was so high, was offered a lower rate of $284.13 but for 8 weeks, not a year..We cancelled.Past Payments: 2024: $2511.25 (increase of $525.83, or 26.5%)2023: $1985.42 (increase of $355.99, or 22.8%)2022: $1629.63 (You get the idea)I contacted the Mercury on 1/21 to voice my concerns.I was told there really is no fixed price for the paper, they fluctuate according to who offered you the deal and there are no guarantees. Our friends might have been given a special deal but only because they called in & were able to secure this. Are we suppose to do this every year too? What do we want for being suckered? We would like a refund for the difference if we had paid $201.35/year for the last 3 years ($604.05). What we paid in total for *******: $6036.30 What we would like: $6036.30 - $604.05=$5432.25 In the printed paper, it says All ************** is $45 for 7 days which would be $360 for 8 weeks. We paid $393.75. What is the extra $33.75 for? I opted out of the special editions a long time ago. Was it put back on our payment plan? Please add: $33.75 X 3 years (not sure exactly how long weve been paying extra)=$101.25 Total refunded to us=$5432.25 + 101.25=$5533.50

Hello, thank you for being a loyal reader. Our rates are printed in the paper each day and its currently $45 per week before tax. So the total with tax was $393.75. All of our introductory subscriptions are on a path to that rate. We aren't able to issue a refund for past subscriptions but we were able to restart this subscription at an introductory rate. But that rate will go up after the introductory period.

I asked to cancel my my subscription multiple times .These guys refuse to send email confirmation of what is said and agrees to over the phone. I suspect that these calls are being handled by an overseas call center. No issues other than my experience with these centers is that it takes a fair amount of pushback to get things done and they are long winded as the representatives tend to want to repeat what you tell them for clarifications sake.

I went a vacation on October 23 and called to stop the paper on 21 October with return on 9 November 2023. When I called to stop the paper there was no mention of no credit given for the stopped paper nor was there mention that they would save the newspapers and proved them to me on my return from vacation. I called today to ask why I was not given a credit for my vacation stop. The agent stated that the Mercury News does give subscribers a credit for stopped papers and when I questioned him why he stated that it was not the papers policy to give credits for vacation stops. I stated that they did not provide that information when I stopped the newspaper nor the information about the saving of the stopped papers unless the subscribers asks for the newspapers. I told him this was a bunch of crap!!!!!

Our apologies. This policy is mentioned on your payment confirmation emails. The agent should have mentioned it. When your subscription is on temporary stop you still have access to our e-edition which is an exact replica of the printed paper. We will credit your subscription for the 15 days. Thank you for being a loyal reader.

I am supposed to receive a news paper daily so when I do not receive it which is becoming a quite often incident lately I call the office. I get either an automated answering machine telling me they will bring one right over. I NEVER receive one. If I get a person by a miraculous occasion, they promise to refund me. I have NEVER received a refund. Im very frustrated with this business.

No subscription online cancellation option. No email subscription cancellatin option. Having to make a phone call to cancel the East Bay Times is a nightmare. I was promised a rate much less than what I am being charged. There's no way I can get an invoice online. No way to cancel by mail.Disgusting. Especially for deaf or blind persons. Why don't they have a subscription cancellation online option? The reason is simply because the organization would go out of business. The newspaper itself is a ******** ****

I'm a caring guy borrowing this phone/email to offer ALL of us, including the publisher, some critical protections. MERCURY NEWS still has false defaming atticles on the internet from 2017, (picked up by Patch and ********* Times), accusing a righteous woman of real estate fraud. She bought and owned the properties in question for 20+ years. The false accusations were made by an abusive X-husband she left, which he used to steal her life's assets and real estate. Her shares all went to him, illegally. She grew up with many high level government and covert ops leaders, including in her own family. Her father, mother and brother later died, allegedly in "accidents". She could not risk her own children by revealing all the state/federal secrets she knows in order to defend herself in court! However, our ********** Attorney General, ***************** himself, wrote court instructions to reverse the charges made against her. This has NOT been published, and none of her life's money, real estate, or even her real name have been returned to her, while the nasty articles remain. What if Bay Area News Group also can't risk telling the truth? PLEASE HELP ALL OF US, INCLUDING THE NEWSPAPERS, BY PUBLICLY DEMANDING THAT THEY NOT PUBLISH OR MAINTAIN ARTICLES ABOUT CRIMINAL ACCUSTIONS. These must be removed. The **** Government spends over $1 trillion a year of our taxpayer dollars on DISINFORMATION, while 30% of ALL American adults will be arrested. Sooner or later you, your family, and anyone you know could, and will be victims. Please respond, and band together for your own protection, and for all those you care about! Tell your family, friends, employers, groups and social media to do the same.

After many years of excellent delivery service, for the last month the paper delivery has been abysmal; sometimes it arrives, sometimes it doesn't. Talking with **************** has not resolved the issue. It appears that the owners of the Mercury News are trying their hardest to essentially get out of the business of generating hard copies of a newspaper.

Our sincere apologies for the service interruption. The Distributor is actively looking for a carrier and or substitutes to fill the route. We continue to support the Distributor in this effort. We will credit your subscription for the missed deliveries.
