Chess.com fraudulently overcharged me one hundred dollars for the Platinum subscription, also they no longer have a phone number by which to contact them which is highly suspicious. I would avoid this company and something to know about them too is that they were allowing cheating on their platform for years and only recently removed the cheaters. Why did they not do this long ago as any reputable company would have done so right away and because they did not that was also highly suspicious.

Chess.com is a horrible website to play chess. First of all the mobile version has not been updated since the website's first version which has been inactive for about eight years now. That means that the mobile version is very basic and very hard to navigate. Second, Chess.com needs to put more effort into catching actual cheaters and not people they think are cheating but are in actuality just getting better at chess. Once they "decide" someone is cheating they just close the account without informing the user what their account was closed for and once the user does get an answer via email as to why their account was closed, which by the way takes about a week, all Chess.com will say is "our decision is final, we cannot reopen closed accounts". Bad business practices all the way around, do not put yourself through the stress of dealing with them. Go find another website to host your chess games. If I could give zero stars I would.

Trial Membership is difficult to cancel and they charge you for a year up front, so even if you cancel, they still get your money.

I go on chess.com every day, and would give it five stars - but they are not investing enough into writing and implementing programs that would detect cheating. I think that approximately 1/3 to 1/2 of every game I play - and I usually play quick ones, as its a bit less easy for opponents to cheat - involves cheating. Most of this is via computer programs - including those they provide onsite! Theres not even clear expectations posted in each tournament pointing out what cheating is! Frequently people rated under **** win or are placed in tournaments. Its a serious problem for games within a country and between countries, which they host, with a day or more per move. Cheating has become the norm - theres no advice or warning not to cheat at the start of tournaments - probably because theres almost no consequences for doing so. Occasionally I get a message from chess.com, saying theyve given my rating an extra point or so as one or more of my opponents have been detected cheating. Id rather hear that their account had been suspended for a time or erased because of cheating, and no new accounts could be created from the ** address for a length of time. For a time they allowed you to report cheating, but theyve removed this as a possible response to each game - too much hard work and/or money to collate and supervise?? You should also be able to block cheating accounts so you dont have to play them again. This would be an excellent site if they put real effort into this. They are too proud of getting numbers of users up, to worry about the quality of service where it really counts. You could use all the services they offer to improve your chess - but not realise youve improved, because of the cheating. The few IMs I know advise me to play on other sites. When you he site crashed because of a flood of new free users, there was no voiced concern that paying subscribers were locked out. This site could be fantastic!

Chess.com's services are not objectively poor, but their support structure is one that pretends to be judge, jury, and executioner when it comes to determining if/when/how players violate their "rules." Granted, they can implement almost whatever they want and if you don't like it, you don't have to use their service. But when you pay for premium membership, you lose the money you give them if the determine that you broke their rules - rules by the way that stipulate they don't even have to give you a reason for closing your account and keeping your money. And I'm not even claiming that they're running around maliciously closing paying members accounts, because that's a weak business model, but what happens when they make a mistake? How are there no checks and balances in place to make sure their overloaded staff aren't making arbitrary and quick decisions, and then just not responding to PAYING customers about their concerns? How is there no human being to get in contact with when a game website takes your $100+ and ghosts you. Stonewalls you. Doesn't respond when you go through the appropriate channels to contact them. These are unprofessional business practices at the very least.

They bait you with the free week of a membership, like many other companies do, however the difference is that they charge you the ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP FEE, instead of the monthly fee like every other at least HALF honorable company does. They have the monthly fees vs annual fees on completely different pages, and then in small letters at the bottom say *annual fee. This is disgusting behavior. Even amazon doesn't stoop this low. It's no wonder the scene is being ravaged right now by cheaters. It seems chess in general is filled with low lives.
