They did my background and today 7/8/2025 I received a copy of my background which disqualified me from a below minimum pay opportunity. The report had all my information mixed up. Correct information, however in the wrong places. This same company did 3 prior background checks which were accurate . This last background check is a complete disaster of my information and should be corrected immediately.

I am rejecting this response because: I've entered my correct and up to date residency information. Your platform doesn't allow change of address when as needed,  only at the start of downloading the app,  which is what I did.  So my background check done for only one company was done up to 4 years ago and not up to date.  Nobody responded to me after dispute via email due to the fact of not being allowed to dispute any other way. You need up to date information to do a background check.  And that wasn't done and can't stay as is.

      Sincerely,

The company who contracts me to do work requested a background check through Checkr on 6/26. Immediately a majority of the report was completed and my motor vehicle report was fully completed and I was given an estimated completion date of 6/27 which it was no completed by. On 7/2 I received an updated estimated date of 7/1. This company has completed reports for me in the past in 1-3 days tops. I have no criminal record or anything that would need further investigation. The lack of transparency with this company really scares me since they have all my personal information and access to records I cant even access and they cant not even update me with where they are in the process or what the hold up is or anything. They have already cost me thousands of dollars dude to not being able to work for over a week with no information provided to me and no optional contact to get more information. I believe someone that is providing a service such as this should have to be more transparent with its customers and provide regular updates while they are in possession of a persons person identification information. Since there is no one to speak to I am worried about the validity of this company and if my information is getting passed out to whoever they please for whatever reason they please. I understand some things may take longer for whatever reason but to keep customers in the dark about the processes preventing them from working should be illegal.

In June 2025, I contracted with Checkr as an employer for a background check on a new prospective employee. I selected a $59.99 package and added a $35 employment check. After completing the check I was charged an additional $119.90. I assumed a simple billing mistake, but was told that Checkr had passed through 3rd party costs to me. In advertising their original service Checkr was disingenuous about their pricing and performed a "bait and switch" to get my business. I have asked what 3rd party fees they paid - but they have refused to disclose them. In short - I was conned.

My background check is coming back with something on it that should not be on there. I have now disputed it four times with checkr and every time I dispute it within five minutes I get an email saying its denied. First of all how does that even give them enough time to do investigation!? Second of all its not accurate and it should not be on there and they are refusing to help. Third of all I am being refused to speak to a supervisor a manager, and no one is helping to resolve my problem. I have been driving for DoorDash for 6+ years and now all of a sudden this thing is on my background report and its hindering my ability to work and this is my only source of income. They have froze my DoorDash account. It is locked because of checkr and Im unable to work and due to being unable to work also means Im unable to pay for my hotel that I pay for on a nightly basis so I have somewhere to sleep and also provides me with the ability to eat every day and I havent been able to work because of this so now I have nowhere to sleep and nothing to eat. And what do they say, oh, Ill follow up by email in which they never do

Checkr committed 2 serious Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) violations in their recent handling of my background ************************ request. They failed to properly reinvestigate the inaccurate information that appeared in my background report dated March 15, 2025. That same day, I submitted a formal dispute requesting a reinvestigation of errors in my report, including the charge type of alleged traffic violations. Checkr failed to correct the inaccuracies and did not provide a satisfactory explanation or evidence supporting the continued reporting of the disputed information. There is also evidence that supports Checkr did NOT conduct the reinvestigation at all. On March 27, 2025, Checkr responded, claiming that a reinvestigation had been completed and that no inaccuracies were found. However, in an email correspondence on March 31, 2025, a Checkr representative contradicted that by stating that I had "not identified any specific item(s) on your report as being inaccurate," and asked me to resubmit my disputes. This contradictory response, and Checkr's failure to verify or even acknowledge the clear disputes already submitted, suggests that they never actually conducted a reasonable reinvestigation as required under 15 U.S.C. 1681i(a). Moreover, the continued publication of inaccurate or misleading information to prospective employers violates 15 U.S.C. 1681e(b), which mandates that consumer reporting agencies maintain maximum possible accuracy in the information they furnish. Checkr failed to correct this error and conduct a reasonable reinvestigation within the timeframe required under the ****; they ignored me for 70 days, which is another violation of my rights. As a direct result, I have suffered harm, including two lost job opportunities, emotional distress, reputational harm, financial hardship, and statutory damages. Checkr is a shady company, and the BBB should reassess its "A+" rating with all these 1-star reviews directly from consumers.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 07/08/2025

      Complaint: 23541846

I am rejecting this response because Checkr provided a non-substantive canned reply that completely sidesteps the key FCRA issues and factual contradictions I raised in my original complaint. While disappointing, this response is unfortunately not surprising; it aligns with a consistent pattern of dismissiveness and evasiveness Ive experienced over the past 4 months while trying to resolve this issuethrough numerous emails, mailed correspondence, and even a formal CFPB complaint filed on May 23, 2025. I want to emphasize that this generic response from Checkr is actually identical to the one they gave me on May 27th through my formal CFPB complaint. Despite multiple efforts on my part to clarify the inaccuracies in my background report, Checkr has never addressed the specific disputed information, nor provided any evidence or documentation to support their reporting decisions.
In fact, I even mailed Checkr a detailed written letter outlining the dispute and requesting specific relief including reasonable compensation for the harm caused. That letter was ignored entirely, especially the parts about resolution. This repeated pattern shows Checkr is not taking its obligations seriously or making a good-faith effort to engage with consumers who are harmed by their reporting.

Despite my detailed explanation of serious Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) violations, Checkr did not address:

Their contradictory internal communications: Claiming a reinvestigation was completed on March 27, 2025, and then claiming just days later on March 31st that I had not identified specific inaccuracies to dispute despite having done so with supporting documentation.
Their failure to explain or provide evidence supporting the continued reporting of the disputed items.
Their refusal to describe the actual reinvestigation procedures used in my specific case, as required by 15 U.S.C. 1681i(a)(6)(B)(iii).

This type of vague and generic reply is part of a broader pattern of bad faith handling of consumer disputes, and a blatant attempt to appear compliant while avoiding accountability.
As a direct result of these FCRA violations, I have suffered:

Two lost job opportunities due to the inaccurate report
      Financial hardship and emotional distress
Reputational harm and lost time attempting to fix errors Checkr refused to meaningfully address

      Call to Action:
I request that this complaint remain open, unresolved, and visible until Checkr provides a good-faith, compliant response as required under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Checkr must provide:

A written explanation of the specific reinvestigation procedures used in my specific case
Any supporting evidence used to justify the continued reporting
A direct response to the March 31st contradiction
Confirmation that this disputed data will no longer be shared with employers

I am actively preparing formal legal action under the Fair Credit Reporting Act and reserve all rights to escalate this matter to the ************************ (***), and the Maryland Attorney General. If Checkr fails to provide a sufficient and specific response to my concerns as required under 15 U.S.C. 1681i, I again request that this complaint remain publicly unresolved to reflect the ongoing nature of the harm and the companys noncompliance.

I will continue to pursue appropriate channels to hold Checkr accountable. Given the pattern of unresolved FCRA violations and hundreds of similar 1-star reviews/complaints, I strongly urge the BBB to reassess Checkrs "A+" rating, which misrepresents their treatment of consumers and their refusal to address matters in good faith.

      Sincerely,

      ***** *****

I am filing a formal complaint against Checkr for mishandling my background check, which is preventing me from returning to work with *****Despite completing all other requirements, my background check has been delayed for nearly two weeks. Now, Ive been told it wont be completed until July 10th. This extended delay is causing significant financial hardship as I cannot work or support my family.Checkrs standard procedure is to complete background checks within a few days. When I recently applied for Lyft, my check was completed in just a few days. However, with ***** the process has been repeatedly delayed.I confirmed with **** that everything else on my account is ready; the only pending item is the criminal background check. **** representatives are unsure why this check is being handled separately or why its taking so long. The criminal background check and motor vehicle report (MVR) were supposed to be processed simultaneously, but Checkr completed my MVR first and only started the criminal check afterward, causing further delay. This is not standard practice. While focusing on the current delay, I must mention I have faced ongoing issues with Checkrs reporting in the past. I previously had to dispute and remove outdated or inaccurate information from my reports, which took considerable time and effort. These recurring problems raise concerns about Checkrs efficiency and accuracy.I respectfully request that Checkr immediately complete my background check, provide a clear explanation for the delays, and review their procedures to ensure timely and accurate reporting in the future.Thank you for your attention.

I am rejecting this response because:
Dear Better Business Bureau and Checkr,
Thank you for your response, but my core concerns remain unaddressed.
Based on my previous experience with both **** and Lyft background checks conducted through Checkr, the process has always been completed promptly and all at oncenot split up or delayed as it is now. Even just a month ago with Lyft, my entire background check was completed in less than a week.
      Checkrs own website states:
Most background checks are completed in 3 to 7 business days, but some may take longer.
On average, employment background checks conducted through a CRA typically take three to five days.
89% of criminal background checks are completed within one hour.
Driving record (***) check: >1 hour to 1-3 business days.
In my current case for ****, it took Checkr two full weeks just to complete the *** check, which is far outside the advertised 13 business days. On June 23, 2025, after waiting two weeks, I received an incomplete background checkonly the *** was included, and the criminal background check was missing. This forced **** to contact Checkr on June 24th to request the criminal background check, because Checkr failed to do their job the first time. Now, my portal status has changed from paused to showing an estimated completion date of July 18th, meaning my wait will exceed a month.
These practices amount to deception and false advertising. Checkrs website promises fast, efficient, and thorough background checks, but my experience has been the opposite. Even compared to other background check vendors, it is unheard of for a standard employment checkeven with mild delaysto take over a month.
It is especially troubling that Checkr wastes no time and faces no delays when it comes to sharing derogatory or negative information with employers. For example, shortly after I was cleared on the background check for Lyft, the very next day Checkr revised my report to include the *** case and immediately flagged me for Lyft to consider. There was no delay in reporting negative informationonly in completing routine or positive checks does the process stall.
To make matters worse, it turns out the derogatory item Checkr sharedthe *** casewas not even supposed to be included in my background check, as it is not a criminal matter and has nothing to do with my driving record or criminal background. This is a serious error that could have unfairly impacted my employment.
This ongoing delay is now resulting in lost wages and financial hardship, as I am unable to work and support my family. There have been no changes in my background or status to justify this extended delay, making the situation even more unreasonable and concerning.
All other requirements for my employment are completeonly Checkrs delay is preventing me from returning to work and earning income.
I respectfully request an immediate explanation for these delays, immediate completion of my background check, and assurance that only appropriate information will be included in my reports going forward.
      Thank you for your attention.
      Sincerely,

      ********* *******
