My son enroll** in the online drivers ** training almost three years back. Apparently there is a stealth enrollment into some monthly service for $5/month that we never knew about or us** and it's been dinging my cr**it card ever since then. $5/mo since 5-13-23. How is that not scammy? Do they think someone is going to ne** their service long after getting their driver's license? This is so grey area it's unbelievable that they tout a AAA rating with the BBB. I would like a complete refund of the $120 and written proof of cancellation from whatever they've enroll** me into.Business Response

We completely understand your frustration and appreciate the opportunity to clarify. We see from the screenshots that you received charges from our brand partner, ***************************** and not from I Drive Safely. That said, we are more than happy to assist you with receiving a refund for your subscription.
The $5 monthly charge youre referring to is for Allstate Roadside Assistance, which is an optional add-on offered at the time of course purchase. When selected, it provides a discounted course price and includes a one-month free trial. This is outlined during checkout, and we also provide options to opt out before completing the purchase and again before the trial begins. We recognize that if this service wasnt clearly noticedespecially if the account belonged to a minorit can understandably feel unexpected. We want to assure you that this is not a hidden or mandatory charge, and cancellation is always available by email, phone, or through the students account settings.
We are more than happy to investigate this issue further and issue a refund. However, we weren't able to locate an account for this customer. We ask that you provide the name and email for the account originally registered. Once we receive this information, we will be able to issue a refund.Customer Answer

Hey *******,
I understand you are looking for a refund and I am here to help you with that. Our records show that your Roadside Assistance membership for ******************* was canceled on 5/27/2025, and you will not be billed for this service.
Since this is a voluntary option and is not defaulted or automatically added to your purchase, we typically do not provide a refund. But in your case, I can issue a maximum refund for the last 6 months that is $30. I've processed your refund in the amount of $30. Your refund should appear in your account in 5-10 business days; depending on your bank, it may take a few days for them to process it on their end.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions! We're always happy to help!
Cheers,
Pinak
Customer Experience TeamI find their practice itself predatory and reliant upon customers' ignorance, particularly that of minors, to ****** subscriptions to a non-terminating service. They should be barred from BBB until they refund their victims and stop this practice.

Please note that it may take 510 business days for the funds to appear in your account, depending on your bank's processing time.
We take concerns like yours seriously and are actively reviewing our policies to ensure they are clear, transparent, and respectful of all customers. Found this website online as a provider of drivers courses accepted in the state of ******, purchased a course for my son which stated it was a new drivers education course for licensing. However, there is a fine print item that says that the *** does not accept the course provided so buyers beware! It is a very misleading website that will not issue a refund when you go to the *** and are turned away after wasting your time and money going there. They should not be aloud to offer courses in States that do not accept them as a legitimate driving course school. I'm sure they have many people who are unaware, and donating money to their sub-par curriculum, hints why the state does not recognize them as an acceptable course. There is so much misleading information out there and this company is contributing to the problem and should not be allowed to offer courses for states that do not accept them!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY IF YOU ARE IN ******Business Response

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns. We understand how frustrating it must have been to learn that the course your son completed was not accepted by the Kansas DMV. We truly regret any inconvenience this has caused.
To clarify, the course the customer purchased was through our brand partner, *****************************, not I Drive Safely. The course in question is titled the Online Teen Drivers Course, and it is designed to help students build foundational driving knowledge. However, it is not approved by the Kansas DMV for licensing purposes. To avoid confusion, we include a clear disclaimer during the checkout processlocated in a separate box above the Terms and Conditions and the "Continue" buttonwhich reads:
"Disclaimer: I acknowledge that the course is not approved and does not result in high school credit or a certificate that will be accepted by the DMV/DPS."
We understand how easy it can be to miss this information, and we are sharing your comments with our ***************************** team to evaluate how we can make this disclaimer more prominent and visible throughout the site and checkout experience. While the refund policy allows for a full refund within 30 days of purchase as long as the course has not been completed, weve gone ahead and processed a full refund of $64.00 as a one-time courtesy. Your refund should appear in your account in 5-10 business days; depending on your bank, it may take a few days for them to process it on their end.
We hope this resolves the issue to your satisfaction. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please dont hesitate to reach out.Initial Complaint

My teen daughter signed up for an online driving course through this company in March of 2023. In fine print they put that if you buy the cheap course, you sign up for a $5 month roadside assistance. When you purchase you do not know you are signing up for monthly assistance. I went back and searched my email and there are no receipts nor any agreements I was sent about this. I was going through my credit cards and noticed a charge on one of them for $5. I proceeded to call the company and they had me look through my statements, and I realized for 2 years since she signed up they have been charging my card for supposed roadside assistance. This is a straight up scam. Which means by taking their driving course it cost us $120 more than the original $39.99 price for the course. This is predatory business to take advantage of teens who don't know to read the fine print and think they are making a one time purchase. Also predatory since they never sent me a single email in over 2 years about the roadside assistance or about the added costs...I checked with their customer service and my email is on file. I am surprised at their A+ rating as when you go to the help center on their website this is one of the main questions: "Why do I have multiple charges from I Drive Safely?" Which means they know they are scamming children as they have clearly had complaints to include it as one of the few questions asked. They also wait over 3 months to charge the first $5, so that even if you caught it on the first charge, it's possible you have forgotten what it is for. **************** didn't offer a refund when asked, but said they could cancel the service so no future payments are charge. Deeply frustrating. I have 4 more children who need to take online courses in the next several years, but I will be choosing a different company that does not prey on children's lack of knowledge.Business Response

We greatly appreciate you for sharing your feedback and bringing this to our attention. Were truly sorry for the frustration and confusion this has caused.
Our goal is to be transparent about all our subscriptions and course pricing. The roadside assistance subscription is completely optional and is something we offer during checkout as a promotion for a discount on the course. However, we should have been clearer during the checkout process. We sincerely apologize for the lack of communication and the recurring charges. We understand how upsetting this is, especially when you felt it was targeting you and your child. We've gone ahead and made sure all Allstate Roadside subscriptions associated with your daughter's account, (email: *********************************************************************************) have been cancelled. We've also issued you a full refund in the amount of $120.00 for all the charges you received for this subscription. Your refund should appear in your account in 5-10 business days; depending on your bank, it may take a few days for them to process it on their end. Please feel free to contact our team again if you have any additional questions or concerns.Initial Complaint

I completed I Drive Safely's 8-hour online driver improvement course for safe driver point reduction through the ******** DMV. I selected the correct option when registering, but my certificate was issued with the wrong reason code: "Court - No Points Awarded." Because of this, the *** refused to accept it.After hours of back and forth between DMV and I Drive Safely support who offered zero help and kept redirecting me - I was finally granted a free retake. While I appreciate not having to pay again, I am now forced to spend another 8 hours on the same course for a mistake that wasn't mine. That's a total of ************************************************** 5 points off (at most). My time has value, and this process has been extremely frustrating. I believe the platform is misleading and not transparent about how critical the reason code is and it's unacceptable that a system error or unclear interface caused this much loss of time.I want this complaint documented so others are warned before using their services, and so I Drive Safely improves their system and customer support.Business Response

We understand that the process of selecting a reason can be extremely confusing due to the state requirements, so we have included all the information during the process of completing the course, at the start of the course. This customer took our ******** ***************************************** Course. Per the state of ********, we are required to follow strict guidelines enforced when it comes to driver improvement courses. This means that the student must select a reason for taking the course during the initial steps before they can begin the course material. Once a certificate has been issued with a selected reason for taking the course, we are legally unable to alter that reason. These regulations are set by the ******** DMV and are outside of our control.
Step 1 of our ******** Driver Improvement Course states, "You can take this course for the following reasons [includes 5 reasons]. Check out how it works page for additional information". The page linked is the following: *********************************************************************************************. This page provides step-by-step guidelines for scenarios for taking the course, including point reduction and submitting certificates to the ****
Additionally, we offer an explanation of each option on the Driver Information page, the page where the student selects their reason for taking the course, as well as a note that says: "Please click Whats this to ensure you are selecting the right reason for you. Incorrect selection can lead to additional delays and charges." For their initial attempt at the course, the customer selected ******** Court Referred - Point Reduction as their reason for taking the course out of the options available. ******** DMV Mandated and ******** Safe Driving Points are the DMV-specific reason options included on that list.Customer Answer
Date: 04/24/2025
I am rejecting this response because it does not take accountability for how unclear the selection process is on your platform. You claim the student selects the reason before the course begins - which is true but your system does not make it obvious how serious the impact of that choice is, or that it cannot be corrected.
Despite selecting the correct reason (Point Reduction), the system recorded a different one. If I made a mistake, it was due to your confusing and outdated interface, and your support offered no way to confirm or correct the selection before starting. No warnings, no review screen, no post-submission confirmation - just a "good luck."
At the very least, there should be a clearer alert or lock-in step that says your selected reason will appear on your DMV certificate and cannot be changed.I had to retake this course 16 hours total for an error your platform allowed to happen with no recourse. That's unacceptable. Your response only proves the lack of responsibility taken for user experience, and the burden it places on the customer.Business Response

We're genuinely sorry for the frustration and inconvenience you've encountered. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
While our course structure and selection process are designed in accordance with ******** DMV requirements, we understand that the interface and the clarity around the course reason selection may not have met your expectations. Its important to us that students feel confident and informed at every step, and we regret that this wasnt the case for you.
We value your feedback regarding the lack of a confirmation or review step before the course begins. Experiences like yours help us identify opportunities to improve how we communicate critical information to our users. While the system operates within DMV guidelines, we recognize the importance of a more intuitive and transparent experience.
We sincerely apologize for the frustration this situation has caused, and we appreciate your honesty in pointing out areas where we can do better.Initial Complaint

As an online drivers education provider, we ensure that both students and their parents are fully informed about our discounts and payment options at the time of purchase. We provide the opportunity for them to choose whether to opt in or out of these options based on their preferences.
At the time of purchase, we advertise the option to choose a discounted price for the customers intended course, which includes a complimentary 30-day subscription to Allstate Roadside Assistance. On the same page, directly beside this option is the option to purchase the course at full price, with no subscription included. The free trial for roadside assistance can be removed by the customer before they purchase the course on the checkout page if they initially opted into it. We disclose before and after purchasing the course that after the initial 30-day free trial, there will be a $5 monthly charge for the service unless canceled.
Each customer is able to cancel the charge within their course or by contacting us via phone, email, or text. Additionally, our help center has articles exclusively about cancelling the charge.Customer Answer

We understand your concerns and want to assure you that we take multiple opportunities to inform both students and parents about the available options regarding the Roadside Assistance trial. We strongly encourage students and parents to set up a parent account, which allows guardians to stay well-informed of their child's progress and any active subscriptions. Additionally, details about the trial are included in our terms and conditions at the time of purchase, ensuring transparency at every step.
As of 3/20/25, there are no active subscriptions. The subscription mentioned was cancelled on 03/18/2025, and an amount of $20.00 was refunded. We have made the additional refund of $30.00 on 3/20/25, which will be reflected in the associated bank account within 5-7 business days.Customer Answer

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.
I do believe if you genuinely wanted to ensure parents know about the $5 monthly charge, then you should Require parental approval.

This company advertised themselves as easy and convenient. This experience has been everything but. I paid this for my son to get his learner's permit, $43, and every click takes you to a page asking for more money. An unsuspecting customer can easily be fooled into paying more. I called IDRIVESAFELY to clarify what I paid for, and was directed to go directly to the examination. As my son proceeded to finally get what I paid for, where he has 3 attempts to pass, he was logged off the examination and required to pay more. This experience aside from being costly, has been frustrating. The constant request for more payment, when what we paid for was an exam, 3 attempts to be exact, and not allowed to complete one isn't ethnical and extremely deceitful.Business Response

We are more than happy to provide clarification on this parents purchase. I have reviewed the customers sons account and have confirmed that they paid $43.00 to take the Florida Permit Exam through our website. Although we facilitate the purchase for this exam, the ******************************************************* (FLHSMV) administers it through their online portal. They have strict rules, which are provided in detail within the students account before the exam can begin. This includes not leaving the testing page once the exam begins.
The students first attempt at taking the exam resulted in failure due to the student leaving the testing page. This is the message provided to us directly from the FLHSMVs system.
The FLHSMV allows individuals to take the exam a maximum of 3 times online. Each individual exam attempt has to be paid for, as is required by the FLHSMV, whether they take the exam online or in person. The customer will need to pay for another attempt if they wish to take it online again.
We are unable to provide a refund since the exam was already attempted and the student received a grade.Initial Complaint

The service advertises being available to those wishing to lower insurance premiums. I checked with my insurance provider and they do offer discounts for defensive driving courses. I took the course voluntarily. When the certificate was issued for completion insurance would not accept it because the language didnt say voluntary, it said court:other, implying I took those due to court order. When I completed the intake questions after purchasing there was no option to select voluntary taking the course, all prompt questions implied a court order was a requirement, against the advertised service of offering voluntary certificates. I contact the company for a revised certificate (and advertised service) but they repeatedly said they could not amend the certificate. They also wont issue a refund because I completed the course and an (unusable) certificate was issued.Business Response

I have paid a monthly service premium for years for roadside assistance and then this weekend had a blowout. Not only was it an absolute nightmare to get someone on the phone to even attempt to get help. They could not find my subscription and ultimately, I had to pay $70 for roadside service that should have been covered. NOT only that but I do NOT see how ***** hours is considered a reasonable response time for an EMERGENCY roadside repair. Called in this morning to try to resolve got someone who spoke little English who also could not find the subscription and request I send a SS of the latest payment refused to transfer me to billing so they could do a reverse search on the payment to find the account. Basically I got a hey sorry were really good at taking money we just don't know what account were sending it to after and I guess I am expected to just continue to pay the fee since they cannot find where it is billing to cancel it. ABSOLUTE SCAM!!!! Looking like I will have to cancel my CC and order another one to stop the fee's.Business Response

When i signed my daughter up for drivers education the fine print that I did not see enrolled me in $5 a month roadside assistance that i have been paying since July 2021. i just noticed. i looked on yelp and many others have complained about the same thing. I know I should have been reviewing my credit card bill better but...I not alone in being stupid and not looking. I think they should somehow be punished. i called to cancel and complain. they canceled and gave me a $30 refund but i think that is a drop in the bucket compared all the others they are billing without knowing about it.Business Response

The parents spoke to an agent yesterday on 4/5/24. They were informed of the promotional trial they signed up for when purchasing the course. "Our records indicate the reason why you were being charged each month is that when you signed up for the course under ******************************* - ***********************************, you claimed the promotional discount price with Allstate roadside services. Our website states that after the free 30-day trial is up, a monthly charge will be applied unless the service is cancelled. This is the only way to receive the discounted rate. Otherwise, the customer will have to pay the full price for the course."
We have reviewed their account and have refunded the total charges for the confusion. This is a total of $190.
