I had an issue with Inspire Energy in late 2017 early 2018, a high bill which led me to call PECO. I was told the reason for the high bill was because Inspire was chosen as the Energy provider. I signed up, thinking it would save money. I called Inspire and the issue was resolved amicably; they refunded me a partial courtesy check for approximately $200. I immediately asked to terminate the contract, I informed PECO of the change. I noticed the Nov/Dec 2023 bills were very high and Jan/Feb2025 bills even higher. I spoke with multiple people at Inspire, I was told I had signed up again in (Sept 2023) (PECOs record indicate as far back as May of 2023 maybe even sooner). which I would NOT have done, since I had the prior issue. I was informed by rep ******** my husband signed up online, I find that difficult to understand, when my husband is NOT computer savvy (he hardly texts, she insisted he did since it shows my IP address). I questioned if he had done this, why was I not informed since my name only is on the Electric bill (was told that anyone who lives in the household can sign up that is the PA Law). *** said she would issue a courtesy refund (the difference in the amount of what PECO charges). I questioned again, what about the previous months and was told that I had to speak to a supervisor. Spoke with Supervisor *******, he agreed to an additional courtesy check for three months, I also question, if that is the case then I should receive refunds from September of 2023, to present, he said it would not make that much difference, amounts were so small, that did not make sense either. I agreed to the refund but after thinking more about this, I contacted Inspire to inform them I was seeking legal advice. I contacted WPVI 6ABC ************ and was told Inspire would not take their calls. I feel like I have been scammed by this company, and I will pursue legal help.

      Business Response

      Date: 03/17/2025

On September 4th 2023, Ms. ******** ******* account was enrolled with Inspire on our website, following an outbound physical mail campaign. During this enrollment, Ms. ******** ******* personal information was provided and a third-party verification was completed, confirming the decision to enroll. Following enrollment, Terms of Service were mailed and emailed to the service address.

Before receiving this complaint, we made efforts to address Ms. ******** *******' concerns by offering a courtesy refund, which was initially accepted. However, after the courtesy refund check was already in transit, Ms. ******** ******* declined to accept the refund as a resolution. We advised that the check should not be redeemed if it did not fully resolve the complaint.

Despite this, the courtesy refund check was cashed on 3/11/25, indicating Ms. ******** *******' acceptance of the resolution. Therefore, we consider the matter closed. The account has been canceled and placed on Do Not Contact.

At Inspire, we strive to empower our customers to make a rewarding and informed decision to support cleaner sources of energy.  Please let me know if you need any additional information regarding this complaint.
