      My rheumatologist ordered their test for me last year. My insurance covered a majority of the cost but there was still a balance I owed. I called Exagen expecting them to be like most medical companies but they were very helpful and I was able to pay my balance. I appreciate them for working with my personal situation and being reasonable.

      This is a scam company with its billing practices. I was on the phone every 3-4 weeks with them for a year to complete their billing requirements to qualify for what they state the discounted billing rate will be when you consent to their lab tests. I qualified for financial need to pay at the discounted rate that they use to lure you into their labs or I would never have taken these "new" cutting edge tests. The discounted rate is contingent on them billing insurance and seeing that it would not be covered by the insurance (which it is not, being a newer technology). Then, they refused to bill the insurance. They said they would bill my insurance each time I called, and then they said they couldn't verify that I had insurance each time I followed up. They asked for my insurance card by email 3 times, but their company doesn't allow incoming emails, it bounces them back, but they kept asking me to try to email for months. (Keep in mind that after a year the insurance won't even accept a claim). It has been 11 months and they still haven't managed to verify my insurance and submit a claim. They finally said they could take the insurance info over the phone, but then, afterward, still did not manage to verify my insurance for 2 more months. Who I followed up they said I never provided them with my insurance information. I kept jumping through their hoops all to just get them to verify my insurance, because if they could not, I would have to pay in full. Here I am at the end of the year time limit and called one more time, and they gave me the same line as the first time I called, that they do not have my insurance information on file and so it is my fault and I need to pay the entire bill. They have been dragging it out a year so I will have no evidence of a insurance denial to qualify for the discounted rate, and so then I would have to pay the full amount. It is the most ridiculous billing-sham process I have ever encountered.
