On 1-24-23 I happen to look into my checking account and to my surprise I see that Mechanics Bank has withdrawn two payments of 484 dollars From my checking account, I never authorized Mechanics Bank to enter my account and immediately called my banks customer service branch to file a complaint, it seems upon further review of my statements Mechanics Bank will give a payment reversal and charge a returned item fee assessment, late fee assessment or a returned item fee assessment. This is very upsetting to me and it would be appreciated if you could look into this matter for me because I believe this is illegal what this bank has done to me and probably countless more peopleBusiness Response

On September 27th, 2022, at 9 pm, Mechanics Banks authorized/requested my vehicle repossession through their personal tow company contractor, by the name of Speedy Recovery, due to non-payment. Finding out that my vehicle was towed, especially after I had just returned home from the hospital with a chronic illness, I contacted Mechanics Bank. Upon contacting MB, I attempted to explain to them that the reason I was behind on payment was due to loss of wages from not being able to work due to being sick; I was informed, by the MB associate that my situation was not their issue/problem, and that they only want the payments for the loan for the car regardless of my own issues, and that if I do not pay the late payments along with all of the fees, included, such as the late fees and the repo fees by October 14th, my car will be sent to be auctioned to cover my balance owed, and my account will be sent too collection. On October 13th, 2022, I was finally able to go get my car because I had paid off all of the required fees; however, upon arriving at the Mechanics Banks Tow COntractor location, I was informed. that vehicle would not start and it had also sustained damages, which caused me to contact my ***************** to file a claim and to get my vehicle towed to a mechanic's shop. After filing a claim with my insurance, I then went and asked the tow company contractor Speedy Recovery for the information needed for me to file a claim with them regarding them damaging my vehicle. Speedy Recovery gave me a complaint form, and a piece of paper to fill out and told me to just contact my lienholder, Mechanics Bank to file a claim with them. So, I did on 10/2022 and was also told that an associate of Mechanics Bank Auto Finance, by the name of ***********************************, would be investigating and handling the claim. Now, it is January 07, 2022, and when I contacted both Mechanics Bank, the Associate fir Mechanics Bank, ***********************************, and the tow company contactor, I am ignored. More specifically, I am ignored by *********************************** and Speedy Recovery when I attempted to both call and email requesting an update on my claim. Regardless, when I contacted Mechaniiccs Banks Auto Finance, I was then told that because the damages were caused by their contractor Speedy Recovery, which now they are telling me isn't their contractor, but merely is a third party, I would need to file a claim with them, to which I replied that I have already done. Then, I was given the run around when I mentioned that I had also filed a claim per policy with the lienholder, Mechanics Banks as well. It has now been 5-months since I have been without a car, yet Mechanics Banks has done nothing to try and remedy the issue, except tell me that I still need to pay for a car that: 1- Has not been in my possession for 5-months, specifically due to damages sustained/caused by their own contractor, Speedy Recovery, and 2- which has caused me and my family tremendous financial problems in both my personal and professional life because I had to find alternative transportation, which also caused me loss of wages.Business Response

My vehicle was repossessed by ********'s bank around midnight on December 15th, 2022. That morning, I called in twice and was able to speak with two different agents. The 2nd agent I spoke with attempted to transfer me to the department that handles this issue and also informed me that she would send an email over that department so someone could reach out to me when they were available. Around 5pm, I called back and spoke with another agent who informed me that the other department was closed for the day and I would have to call back the next day. She also said she would send an email over requesting a follow up the next day and that she would call me by 10 am to confirm if I was able to speak with someone or not. I told all 3 agents that I was calling to find out the total I needed to pay so that I could resolve this issue and get my vehicle back. On Friday December 16th, I called several times and was never able to get through to an agent. I also never received a call back. Since that day, I have called approximately 20 times on different days and times, and have never been able to get through to any one. I have called from other numbers as well and the calls just keep getting disconnected. The letter I received from Mechanics Bank (more than 48 hours AFTER the repo) did not say where or how I can send in the payment and instructs me to call the same number that I have been calling that no one ever answers. All the while, I am racking up storage fees of $55/day. This seems like a ploy to either get more money from the customer through storage or late fees or to blatantly deny me the right to reinstate my loan in the within the timeframe I am allowed by ********** law.Business Response

I purchased a car private party whose owner had a lien through Mechanics bank. I completed the purchase October 28th and the loan balance was sent to Mechanics bank to satisfy the payoff, with their website showing a zero balance a few days later. However, over a month later, Mechanics bank has still not release the title to the seller to send to me and my finance company. This is an outrageous processing time, and it is preventing me from properly registering the car in my name in my home state. And most other banks have a processing time that is a week or two at most, including weekends. The seller and I are extremely frustrated and dont know how mechanics bank does business this way.Business Response

I was a new customer with ********************** after purchasing my car from ****** I made my first payment to Mechanics Bank in September 2022. I set up my bank account and they withdrew the payment. In October before my payment was due I submitted the reoccurring payments as they offered. I received an email stating they would take the money from my account on the 30th of October. Generally when you set up a bank account and have made a payment its something that is taken out on its own. Come November I get my bill and it has a fine and two payments. I called Mechanics bank and was connected to ************ to inquire why I was charged for two payments he said my car was in collections. I ask how because I set up the automatic payments through their website And have a email confirmation. I was told there was nothing showing on their end that I set up the payments. I told *********** from ****** how I made a payment on September from the same account which I set up the automatic payments to occur from. I have never been late or behind on a loan or payment. He then tells me its because Im new and my bank is not familiar with their bank which is the most outrageous thing Ive ever heard. Chase is one of the biggest banks and I had already established a withdrawal from the bank to mechanics bank. I would like this fixed on my credit and late fees refunded. Apparently they have tons of bad reviews on yelp with the same issue (automatic payment system) and have not been stopped or resolved. I have since had to get another auto loan which will also affect my credit score because of there poor services. I have attached the appropriate documents as well.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: What are they doing to fix the issue with the non existent auto pay? I trusted this bank when ***** transferred my car loan to them and I had to take my loan to another bank costing me to pay more interest on another loan because of this issue and inconvenience.

Although I dont believe this response at all I will be done with it. I called mechanics bank and the agent I spoke with said it was never even initiated and wouldnt an email be sent regarding cancellation of the automatic payments. Again why would I cancel it 8 minutes after setting it up?! So many reviews on yelp experience the same thing and it needs to be brought to others attention who use this bank, its unfair! Im glad to have been able to receive another car loan but have to pay more in interest because of there insufficient system!
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference tocomplaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
Sincerely,

I opened a secured credit card through my bank, Mechanics Bank. I deposited $1000.00 and never used the credit amount on the credit card. I had to file for bankruptcy in September and shortly afterwards my secured credit card with the $1000 balance was closed and declined. I called Mechanics Bank in October and they said that they would be sending me a refund check in the amount of $1000. Two months have passed and I have yet to receive a check nor can I reach anyone at the original telephone number(s).Business Response

This Bank has felt like a nightmare to work with and the scary thing it is only the start of the relationship. I believe they engage in dishonest or incompetent practices. I wait long periods of time to get a representative on the phone, just to be repeatedly hang up on. I've emailed them about applying payment ref #: 6FDSN-221XFF-3X5 to principal only-- I was assured that this will be completed but is has NOT! This payment was posted on October 31st, 2022. Furthermore, the extra payments that I have been making is not adding up to the lowering of the simple interest that is accrued daily, rather it is increasing-- this is also wrong. All I want is for the bank to do its job, follow proper regulations and treat its customers with respect which this bank clearly cannot do.Business Response

I had financed a leased car purchase through a ****** dealership, where the Mechanics Bank acted as the financier, on 04/30/2022. After making monthly payments since then, I have decided to pay off my loan and sell the car. I have called and asked the best and fastest way I can do this and receive the car title and followed their instructions. I made the payment and the car loan amount was paid off on 10/26/2022.I have found out that even after closing the loan and paid off in full, I will not be able to get the car lien release for up to 30 days. This is ridiculous given the fact that I have paid off my obligation and Bank is holding my title, preventing me from obtaining legal documentation to own the car. Despite my efforts, I didn't get any resolution, except the fact that I was told that is how Mechanics Bank simply works, disregarding the fact that I have no obligation before the bank and they should simply sign it off over to me. I'd like to ask for any help I can get as it is affecting my ability to sell my car. Thank you.Business Response
