Modern Family Law is a total scam. We hired them and they charged us over $17,000 in less than two months after completing very little work on the case with no resolution. We terminated the contract with them on 10/10/24 and sent us a bill for over $7,000 on 10/15/24 for the work done between 10/1/24 to 10/15/24 to close out the case. The amount of work they performed in half of October 2024 amounted to almost no work at all. We corresponded with **** ******** and ********* **** on 10/4/24 to complain about the bill and these retaliatory charges occurred after we cut ties with Modern Family Law. Their actions amount to unethical and unscrupulous billing practices and their firm should not be allowed to continue this unfair billing practice. We are requesting all these erroneous billing charges for October 2024 be removed. We do not owe them anything.

I hired Modern Family Law to represent me. I put down a deposit of over $2K. One of the attorneys I was working with left the firm. My options were to use another attorney they had, or end my contract with them and move on. I chose the later due to poor performance on their end. Since then I have tried to regain my deposit, and I continue to be denied, and told it is because of procedure. My court case is today (7/24), and Modern Family Law still refuses to return my deposit. I continue to be in contact with *************************** ************************************************ He continues to give me answers that prevent my deposit from being release. Every single time **** messages me, he is charging me $350 an hour. If this continues, my deposit will be diminished just in correspondence. This firm did not meet my standards. My attorney left the firm a couple of months before trial leaving me in a bad position. Now I can not get my deposit back. I am being bullied by a strong law firm, and I need help.

I received my deposit back from Modern Family Law. That issue has been resolved. I still completely disagree with the firm charging attorney rated fees for correspondence. Especially AFTER I had already terminated the agreement. That practice is unfair and should be stopped. I feel lucky to have received the amount of my deposit that I did. I feel they were draining my funds until I reached out to BBB.

      Sincerely,
      ***********************

Please adhere to this warning before you decide to say yes to this firm!!!! The upfront call is light and accepting and you think your best interest is #1 one but by the 3rd or 4th billing cycle you will quickly realize it's all about the buck at this place. $3,000 is the retainer which acts like a security deposit and as long as there is no outstanding balance you get that back (STILL WAITING on that but it's been a few days since the attorney removed herself from my case so that's fair). 6months into a divorce and custody case, and mind you the divorce is not being contested by either side, we arrived at temporary orders that have still not allowed me to see my daughter or my animal. I repeat $20,000+ in the hole into this firm and we're no where close to being done with the matter..

When she took my divorce back in November, she was in agreement that my ex violated the divorce petition and contempt was the best option. From the start of the contempt there were obvious red flags. When she wouldn't address the judge on certain things, and let OC run the show was when I started questioning what was going on. She allowed OC to drag out the first appearance due to them saying their client wasn't properly served. We knew he was and she didn't challenge it, causing more money to be wasted. From December to April we prepped, and finally we had a contempt court date for ****** THE *** BEFORE she calls me telling me she doesn't feel the case is strong enough and we should drop the contempt. This is after spending at least ****k on the contempt. ****** told me she couldnt refund any money, however ahe wouldnt bill me for a certain dollar amount for my divorce. That sounded great but too bad she would never fulfill that. My ex had filed a contempt against me whi h she negotiated a deferred prosecution. While working on remedying the issues of that contempt, I couldn't get ahold of ******. I contacted the firm and asked to SPEAK to a senior. I needed to discuss proper ways to rectify the contempt since ****** was unavailable so much. That night I got a nasty email from ****** saying she would be withdrawing from my case due to reaching out to her firm. She claimed I told them she was "never available" and that I wanted to switch attorneys, which was not the case. ****** could have handled that in a way better situation, but I firmly believe it was sent due to her not wanting to do the work she said she would after failing miserably to help me in the contempt I can't say much as to how she handled my divorce as well. She didn't do anything except bill non stop . She never made any real agreements with OC. She never followed through when I asked her about submitting discovery, filing for an emergency forwidth status conference to discuss temporary orders

I retained modern family laws services in 6/22. I have spent over ****** dollars and my case still is pending. Two of the Attorneys from modern family law were helpful. The 3rd attorney i got was not. The way This firm treats their clients is unacceptable. I spent a lot of money with no outcome. I was charged so much but my 3rd attorney did not communicate what she was charging. I had to push my living expenses aside to be able to pay them. This firm does not care of how much money someone has spent. I would like a partial refund as I feel they have done nothing for me. I had to reach out to my third attorney for Follow up. In addition I sent an email stating how I felt and my attorney debated with me. How can a company disregard a client when they paid so much.

***************************, the attorney, claimed that she filed evidenced in my case on 06/30/22. They were not filed per the e-filing system in the El Paso County Court. The balances for the time spent were as follows:Previous Invoice Balance ******** Payment on 06-30-2022 (1,000.00)Payment from Trust on 06-30-2022 (2,002.50)I did not authorize the final payment and received a call from Modern Family Law stating that I would not pay for work that was incomplete. I was told 2-3 business days. I still have not received this payment. On top of that, I felt I was misrepresented in a crucial custody case, that now I am scrambling to recover from, and can send all invoices from the start. The lack of knowledge and professionalism of law ultimately led to my temporary orders hearing going very poorly.
