From Oct 2020 until current I have been a tenant at Ivanhoe apts. I have been a good tenant not issues. I have been asking for a smaller unit for over a year and when I was approved to transfer, it has been nothing it problems. At first I was told I could transfer, I had until the 6th to be out of the 2bdrm and in the 1 bedroom. When I went to finish moving my stuff on Dec 5th, the office staff had changed the locks on the smaller unit and all my stuff was inside. I am getting a run around about the keys I need and also am being told that I have to pay for the 2bdrm before I can have the keys to the 1 bdrm..I have not had heat in 3 years, the plumbing is not up to date, the electric is not up to code and something needs to be done. I am a graduate student and my y finances are limited. I feel like this company is trying to scam me out of all the money they can.

    Business Response

    Date: 01/04/2023

Hello, thank you for the opportunity to provide a response to the complaint from our current resident ******** ********.

There was a change in management at this community over the last month. We were not aware this resident had transferred into another unit, as there was no signed lease. During a unit by unit inspection at take over, we found their previous unit to be vacant so we rekeyed the lock.

Not until the resident came to the office to inform us that she couldn't access the unit did we discover that she had access to two units. Residents mentioned that she had been approved for a transfer and that she was occupying both units until they got all their belongings moved over. We did our best to accommodate the transfer and allowed the resident access to the unit to get their belongings. We also prepared a new lease to help get things corrected. We informed them they would be responsible for the rent on both units as long as they kept possession of the old unit.

In regards to the resident's comment that the unit has been without heat for 3 years, we reviewed all resident correspondence and work orders and found no requests or complaints about no heat, plumbing, or electrical directly from her. However, we found there were issues with the heat back in May of 2021 where the heat was out temporarily, the issue was handled as quickly as possible and heat was restored.

If the residents went without heat for 3 years and had other complaints about the plumbing and electrical, it doesn't seem reasonable that they'd want to continue residing at the property.
