I paid $1320 for work to be done on my car , I had no previous engine issues until I brought my car here , I picked up my car and it broke down the same day , they suggested a assessment that would then cost me $4400 and a total engine replacement for $8700.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 12/17/2024

I had the car for two hours all recommended fixes that I paid $1300 for I then was told either $4400 to simply asses the damage to the 4-cylinder that would require to open the gasket or $8700 for a whole new engine, I had no previous engine problems before I brought my car to this location I needed a serpentine belt and I want a full refund I’ve waited long enough !!!

      The transaction occurred on 9/11/2024.
The car repair facility committed to repair several issues related to a check engine light for a 2010 **** **. The service representative assured me that they have expertise and equipment to make the repairs. I paid the business $2,662.82 to repair the issues causing the check engine problem (emission failure). Today (9/19/2024) the business informed me of the following:
      - They don't have the equipment needed to resolve the check engine issue and I will have to bring the car to the **** dealer.
My dispute centers around the following:
      - The business claimed to have the expertise to resolve the check engine issues for my foreign vehicle and knowing all along that they did not have the equipment in their shop to perform the work.
It is clear that I paid $2,662.82 for services not rendered by the business.

9/15/23 My 2018 **** ******* would not start and it was making a “grinding” noise when I would attempt to start it. Midas stated it could be the starter, told me they could look at it if I had it brought in. Had vehicle towed.
9/16/23 I was notified that the starter needed to be replaced. Agreed to the repairs, and paid $845.33.
9/19/23 Vehicle ready for pickup. Drove 1 mile down the road and the car started jerking. Tried to accelerate, car would not go anywhere. Called Midas and asked me to bring it back in. Was told it was "some residual moisture in the vehicle from them having it fully taken apart to access the starter.”
On 9/20/23 - Driving - came to an extremely busy intersection and the car started to jerk back and forth, with lights flashing: check engine, start/stop disabled, and my car shut off, would not turn on - grinding noise happening. Called Midas and they told me that I could bring it back in. Got another tow.
9/23/23 - Call from Midas advising that the the idle start stop battery and relay needed replacing. They waived the fee and replaced at no charge.
      9/26/23. Picked up vehicle
9/29/23 Car still “grinding." Called Midas and voiced that my concern was that they installed the starter incorrectly, or something was missed. They told to come back in but I did not feel comfortable at that point.
Brought the car to our local Jeep dealership - Removed PTU, checked the starter – removed the transmission and noticed that there were chipped teeth on the flex plate. Also checked the starter and found that teeth were chipped on that as well. Installed a brand new starter (I had just paid for labor and a starter with Midas), and replaced the flex plate. When putting the PTU back in place, 1 of the bolts was incorrect. Bolt was from the lower control arm, indicating that the Midas technicians threw a random bolt in there having either lost or misplaced one. Visit cost us $2643.83. Jeep advised that starter wasn't the issue to begin with - the flex plate was.

Brought car for simple oil change, I left and the car started to make a noise, I pulled over and checked and there was no oil. I called the manager and they came to my location with oil and said they are sorry to drop it off the shop to fix it, I dropped it off and picked it it back up and the car started to knock and my engine blew, I called them and they said it’s not their problem, so my insurance will be suing them and I’m filing a police report as well.

Today, I gave my ***** for Oil change and look into dashboard warnings at 11am appointment. I am their customer for 11 years. I explained him to change oil and look into dashboard warnings. The store manager Greg, pulled my car info and told me that my car was due for many other repairs which he identified last time when I came in. I explained him, its an old car (140,000 miles) and not interested to repair if it costs too much. He said for $1550, he could make it perfect. I said ok. Uptil this point he didn't even see the car. At around 4:30(store closes at 5) I got a call that all set and asked me to pick. I rushed with my son to pick and paid the fee ($1550). Just before leaving Greg very casually said he couldn't fix some problems as they are related to hybrid problems and that I need to take it to the dealer. His talk was so utterly casual , though perplexed, I gave keys to my son and I drove by my van. Few minutes while I am on the road my son called me to tell all the warning signs were all pretty much there including , stop the car and pull it to a safe place and another 4 signs. Essentially Midas knowingly swindled the money when there was a bigger problem that they couldn't solve. I expected they inform me in good faith and seek my permission to proceed to fix other issues since they clearly knew those fixes alone couldn't solve the real issue. .In other-words I wasted $1550 for no reason. Tomorrow I am going to call the the store to ask why the hell they repair anything if the original problem is something they couldn't solve. Based on my prior experience, the result will be negative.
I am demanding full refund as the service didn't solve the problem and they knew very well what they were doing wasn't going to solve the problem, The signs on the dashboard are so clear warning to not drive with several other signs.
I want to lodge a complaint for refund. Thanks

Customer had a battery light on when it came in. We addressed issues that had been declined in the past.

This car is a Hybrid vehicle, the Hybrid battery should only be addressed by the manufacture, we do not provide this kind of service at our locations. Besides needing a hybrid battery specialist ( electrician ) to replace the battery is also quite costly most of the time batteries are supplied by the manufacture.

I spoke with the customer myself and stated all of this to him.

We have a digital inspection that clearly shows the battery warning was on when the vehicle came to us.

No wrong doing in our part, therefore we will not refund any money.

I went to Midas ********** (**** ********** ******* ** *****) on 7/29 for car repair work. They gave me an estimate of repair work. The estimate shows the address of a different MIDAS location (***** ********** **** ** ****** ******* *********** ** *****, phone number: ###-###-####) I agreed to the repair at MIDAS **********. After repair (4 new tires, front and rear brake rotors, A/C evacuation and recharge, oil change) they (Ed, Greg) charged me 1995.70 $. I asked many times to provide me with a written itemized invoice with the parts number and brand. They declined the request. I later emailed several times. They declined every time. I have not received it yet. What they provided me was an estimate of services (see attached docs), not an itemized receipt with details of work done.

I took my vehicle, a 2012 *** ****, to this Midas for replacing the brake pads on 3/26/2022. I had gotten calls to approve other work on issues they had found. Later in the day I got another explaining I may need atleast 1 strut replaced on the vehicle and said they would give me a call back with a price for my approval. I only get one more call saying the vehicle is ready for pickup. I never recieved the call for the strut, however they went ahead and did the work and charged me for it. They did not let me know until I was ready to pay. Not only did they laugh at me, they told me I was ~$1000 short for a total of $2287.16. They kept making jokes at my expense repeating "You know what *** stands for? ***** ** ******." I decided to not make a big deal about it, the work was done, I would pay and never go back. On 1/10/02023 I hit a large pothole on the road resulting in a flat, and extra damage to my vehicle. I got a tow to **** ***** in ******* **, where I was shown that both front tires (replaced by that midas) were installed backwards, or inside out. I didn't notice until one of the techs pointed out the "inside" label facing outward. They also told me they wouldnt be able to replace the tire because of the damage to the strut. I towed my vehicle from there to another nearby auto-shop in *******. There, they had let me know about the extent of damage, that "whoever replaced your brakes and strut, did it wrong". I was given more detail when I picked up the car on 1/13/2023. Midas had made due with their aftermarket strut that would not fit my vehicle, however Midas made sure it was "installed". The autoshop that let me know of this did not explicitly state that this contributed to the extra damage from the pothole I had hit, but I am under the impression that it did considering the strut overtraveled, annihilating other components. It is my beleif that Midas' lack of morals and respect for their customers, that led to a dangerous situation and increased cost.

The repairs were done on 3/26/2022

The vehicle would not be able to be operated for 12 months if it was unsafe.

The customer never complaint to us, my name and Phone number is listed in every invoice.

At this point "NO REFUND" will be given.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

Just because I was unaware that it was unsafe does not mean it would’ve been inoperable. Just because it was unsafe doesn’t mean the car wouldn’t be drive-able and released to me, unless the shop is operating under unethical means. It was the low effort job done on behalf of Midas that caused an unsafe situation. The tires were on inside out. Just because I didn’t notice until it was too late, because I trusted it was correct, doesn’t make it okay. How am I supposed to know the suspension was installed half assed until I hit a large pothole, and the whole strut shoots through the top mount? Unacceptable. They knew I wasn’t buying their BS warranty, and I’m not letting it go.

I took my car to Midas in ********** ** *****, they gave me a list of issues. Including needing a new catalytic converter, flex pipe, and general 60,000 mile repairs. totaling $2,320.58 on 10/18/2022. After I picked up my car I went to work, driving home that night I had my check engine light come on, so a few days later I went back. They scanned my car and got N/A on the scan so they reset the light and told me they couldn't do anything since the scan told them nothing, they didn't bother to try another scanner. The next day I went back because the light came back on and was told they couldn't do anything at the time of day and they closed in a couple of hours. Didn't even bother to bring it into the garage but scanned it again and found a code that correlated to the work they did P0420 (the cat was below threshold). I had bought my own scanner to show them just in case. After this I went to the ***** **** in **********, who confirmed my suspicion, and gave me photos and documents stating the work was not done and the things that were done, were completed with the cheapest parts possible. I believe they told me they were installing a converter but just replaced my flex pipe instead.I did go back to Midas to confront the manager. Which resulted with him trying to redo the work. In my opinion, if i gave you three opportunities to fix it, you will not get a fourth chance. So I told him no and he argued that none of this was true and he doesn't know who gave me all this wrong information. So to sum it all up I was charged for work that was not done. What work was done with cheaper parts that shouldn't have even been installed into my car.
      invoice number through midas 245204
attached invoice from both garages, ***** ****s notes, states the issues above.

I couldn't drive my car because the smoke got really bad, I called Midas complaint dept I waiting 2 weeks for heard from them , I called Midas again i spoke the services Manager Carlos F******** bring me the car to the shop to see was wrong with the car, he told that someone over fill the oil
he gave a estimated $ 772.76 to fix the damage they did on my car .Regional Manager called me Carlos C*******s called me I told me that the car was old ,to buy a new.

      Business Response

      Date: 09/14/2022

I Carlos C*******s spoke with this customer because she logged a complaint against our store.

I told her that if she was adding oil was either leaking it or burning it.

She asked me to fix the car for free, to which I said NO.

The car had 177,000 miles, first time customer to us, doing an oil change it will not cause the car to leak oil.

She openly admitted that she has been purchasing oil and putting in herself.

At no time did I ever tell her car was old and she should buy another car. My business is to fix cars, not buy or sale cars.

I am not RUDE like that.

At this point there is nothing for me to consider, I will not fix the car for free.

Just today she called my ********** Midas asking the manager to fix her car for free.

I will not change my position. I consider this matter closed.
