I am writing to formally express my profound dissatisfaction with the treatment I received while working with The Hartford regarding my Short-Term Disability claim.
Throughout the process, I was met with a lack of understanding, repetitive and unhelpful communication, and unreasonable expectations. For example, after a doctor’s appointment scheduled for April 15th at 3:30 PM, I was required to submit documentation by close of business that same day—with no consideration given to realistic time constraints or my ability to comply. This level of inflexibility and lack of support was both stressful and disheartening.
The interactions felt less like support and more like a witch hunt, as though I had done something wrong for seeking a benefit I was entitled to. I experienced repeated delays, long hold times, and the same questions asked over and over again, with no progress. The tone and culture I encountered were borderline harassing and deeply unprofessional.
When I addressed these concerns with my employer, I was told to take the matter up directly with The Hartford, essentially distancing themselves from the issue. It wasn’t until nearly nine months later, during my transition to Long-Term Disability, that I finally spoke to someone who was communicative, understanding, and helpful—something I should have experienced from the start.
Unfortunately, the damage had already been done. The way I was made to feel—as if I was a burden rather than a person facing a difficult time—ultimately led me to disengage from the process altogether.
I sincerely hope this feedback helps The Hartford reflect on how to better treat clients in the future. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise others to explore alternative providers if possible.

Do NOT make the mistake of getting insurance with The Hartford. We were found at fault after an accident even though it was clear the other party lied. Our insurance agent refused to call us back and we were never able to find out who the other party's insurance company carrier was as she lied. We were never allowed to be involved in the litigation process and as a result, out rates went up and there was nothing we could do about it. Customer service assistance is non-existent. KEEP A DASHCAM IN YOUR CAR AND AVOID CORRUPT INSURANCE COMPANIES!

Auto coverage is good, but TruLane Program is terrible. Tracks your phone not the car. If you put your phone on battery saver it doesn't work. Fly on a plane it says you are speeding. If you are not in the country it still tracks you on the tour bus. If you are away for 30 days you get penalized and get a surcharge. This nickel and dime by Hartford is unjustified. The Auto Insurance should track the car not the person. Another way for Big Brother to spy on people. I would like a refund of my surcharge, and to see an improvement in the program.

I bundled my home and auto policies with AARP Hartford in February 2025 due to an attractive quote, but I was not told that the auto quote required me to download their TrueLane app, which detects driving performance. I learned that my policy would increase 15% if I did not have the app. Then I found out that my phone at that time did not have a motion sensor. So I spent $170 on a new phone which has a motion sensor, thinking I would make make up the cost in one year, by saving $90 every 6 months on my auto rate. Imagine my surprise when I received my renewal for August 2025 with a 20% increase. This is a 40% annual increase, in an era of 2 to 3% annual inflation, and wipes out the supposed savings by having the app. The app does not work all the time but when it does work, it usually gives me a one star rating, due to hard braking. If you drive in normal traffic conditions, you will invariably need to brake hard occasionally due to traffic stopping abruptly in front of you or someone pulling out in front of you. Apparently Hartford prefers that you actually hit the vehicle in front of you instead of hard braking. For this reason, my current rating on the app is a score of 7 out of 100, and I am due for a 38% increase on my next renewal. Keep in mind that I have not had a violation in 27 years, or an at-fault accident in over 30 years, and I drive my 2009 vehicle less than 2,000 miles per year. So, if you drive like Aunt Matilda who only drives on Sundays to the ****** ****** for groceries, perhaps the TrueLane app will save you some money. Otherwise, you will learn why Hartford only quotes a 6-month policy, and you will likely get a big increase on your first and subsequent renewals.

Opened a policy July 9th 2024 by their representative Andrea. I was guaranteed by her They do not increase their rates her exact words were IF anything a few dollars.. well one year later my renewal arrives with a $900 increase. And I have never put in a claim! Now this story is a we can't guarantee that I said well you're representative did just to make the deal apparently with me and get her commission She deceived me and lied outright to me and that's why I went with this company because I was tired of increases and they are not any different than anybody else . She also explained their rates are low because of the majority population of safe seniors that they insure. Do yourself a favor and look somewhere else Don't trust a word they tell you.. They will say anything to get you to sign up with them. They are sales people that give you entirely false information

I tried my best to be very patient with this company. I recently began utilizing their services for short term disability as I gave birth in February and am on maternity leave. Two times this company has took their time approving me for financial benefits and have caused me to drain my savings due to accumulated late payments. Now we are going to be late on our rent payment because they have dragged their feet reviewing requested documentation. I call today to find out if these items have been reviewed by my agent John Adam’s only to find out they have yet to be reviewed. I then ensured there were no other necessary actions on my end only to find out they sent a letter out today closing my case due to missing documentation. I am so furious as I have called at least every other day and left voice messages to ensure everything would go smoothly. Now I have to appeal my case. Terrible terrible business!!!

We had a hail storm come thru the area that damaged all homes and many vehicles in the area. When I filed my claims for my vehicle and property I was low balled throughout the process. After three low ball offers where my deductible on my vehicle meant nothing to Hartford I had no choice but to file a claim with the ******** Division of Insurance. I was finally paid months later the amount of the estimate I had sent them.
The home coverage was a similar. They were willing to pay for the roof damage after some resistance and several calls from my contractor. They claimed damage to a utility shed roof and lawn furniture were from something else. Their quickness to deny my claim via photos was amazing to me. I filed another claim with the Division of Insurance and was contacted by 4 different people from the Hartford. One contact was a letter that I took to be intimidation from the law department at the Hartford. The agents switched from one to another while contacting me. After 10 months of back and forth arguing they finally paid for the utility shed roof and lawn furniture. This was after final word from them that they would not pay for it and a fifth Hartford agent's involvement.
It is my opinion from the rude way I was treated that the Hartford and **** use these tactics to coerces seniors into accepting their lowball offers. I no longer trust either of them.

The whole process is made extremely difficult as the insurance company constantly gets your information incorrect and has a very poor system of communication. Getting in touch with your agent or anyone who does not give you the run-around is impossible. They have no compunction about undercompensating and sweeping it under the rug, but are very aggressive about seeking recompense for supposed overpayment.

Billing. Mail took 13 days to reach them they say. I called day was due to ensure paid. I used a credit card to pay in meantime. They took my money AND billed me additional $71 but 3 months later tells me canceled even though I OVERPAID. DO NOT USE HARTFORD FOR AUTO INSURANCE!!!! I've paid it m whole life. Mind you have been extremely disabled a year and am not even driving!!!

I am a Senior Citizen who was overcharged for auto insurance. I thought this was a decent company until I started getting increases in my insurance every 6 months. I worked from home, driving at least 25 miles a week to the store or church. My car is in a secure place, and Hartford consistently raises my premium every six months. I had no traffic tickets or accidents, and for four years straight, they continued to increase my premium. The straw that broke the camel's back is when they raised it again by $50, citing inflation is what the representative told me. Mind you, no tickets, moving violations, or accidents should warrant substantial increases like this for someone on social security. I fired their butts and told them I will tell whoever will listen that AARP endorsed Hartford Insurance is a scam at best.
