This business sent me, unsolicited, a book called ****** ************* **** at the end of June 2025. I paid full price, $50.94, with my debit card on May 5th. It is on my bank’s statement for that date. Then on May 20th I received a bill for the first installment $37.61 towards this book even though I had already paid in full. I emailed a complaint about this to BottomLine Books three times waiting for a reply. I didn’t receive anything. I did find a phone number on their website that I have been calling for 2 weeks. ###-###-####. The recording always says, no matter what time of the day, to give your name and number and someone will call you back I have never received a call back. Meanwhile they sent another book, unsolicited again, that I want to return unopened. I took it to post office and clerk mentioned it had not been opened but someone had put tape on it. Not me. So I left thinking I was done with this book. However, my Mail Lady delivered it to me in a couple of days with postage due since someone else at **** decided it had been opened and taped shut. So, I tried to call BottomLine Books to tell them to send NO MORE BOOKS. Again no one answered and I have no one there to complain to.

      Hello, *** ******,

Your complaint reflects the first name *****....however, our records show ******** at the same address. It appears that on 4-9-25 you ordered the ****** ************* book which was received. Thank you for your payment in full as we do offer installments but obviously appreciate a full payment so thank you. The invoice you received had to have crossed in the mail so I apologize for that frustration. On 5-1-25, you ordered the same book again, hence the receipt of the 2nd book. Since you indicated you returned the book, a credit will be issued to clear your account balance once received. Also, please note that the phone number you referenced is not our company.

I am very sorry that your buying experience was the source of frustration. We make every effort to meet our customers needs. In this case, maybe some else in your household order the book too?? We provided exactly what was ordered.

Both of us (***** ***** and ***** *****) have received unwanted booklets from 'Health Special Report' and then we are billed money for them. Here are 3 examples: 1) a bill for ******** ********* **** dated 3/19/25 for ***** *****, 2) a bill for **** * **** ********* **** dated 3/19/25 for ***** *****, and 3) a bill for ******* ************ **** dated 1/1/25 for ***** *****. Each of these was for $28.90. We requested none of these. We are asking the business to remove our names and our mailing addresses from their lists, to cease any invoice mailing to us, and stop billing us for items we never asked for.

Hello and Thank you for your business. I see from your history that you have orders quite a number of books and Newsletters from us and we greatly appreciate your business. However, we also not that a number of these items have been discontinued due to non-payment. As such, all that you have received were in fact ordered and must be returned for a full credit.

We do appreciate your business, but at the same time, need to be paid for the items ordered.

I am rejecting this response because:

We did not order any materials from your business. Instead, the first contact we had with your business was an uninvited postcard saying that you would be sending us materials and charging us and we would have 30 days to reject it. We receive a lot of mail and have been in and out of the hospital the past 2 years, and did not have a chance to reply in time. So you sent us materials WITHOUT OUR ASKING AND WITHOUT OUR ORDERING. The materials are not high quality and went into the recycling because it was not made clear to us that we needed to return them or else we would be charged. We did send in at least one payment because we are honest people. But then this continued. This is a fraudulent business practice. You are scamming elderly people by sending them materials uninvited and unordered and then demanding payment for them. We will not be paying for materials that we never ordered.

      Sincerely,

      ***** And ***** *****

I am very sorry to hear that you have been experiencing health issues and fell badly that this is a source of frustration. However, you did in fact order the materials and are responsible for payment. I take exception that you infer that we are not honest or that we prey on seniors!! Seniors are our core customer base and we provide quality health information that have our loyal subscribers. Your comments are completely inaccurate and need to stop. In the interim, you have been removed from the promotions list, but do need to return the book or pay for it. You said you were honest....you sent in the card asking for the books, we sent it, now you need to do your part and pay for it.

On 3/17/2025, I received a package in the mail containing a hardback cookbook and several recipe-related pamphlets. I also received a bill for $50.94 for said items. I NEVER ordered any of this, and have never even heard of ****** **** *****. Obviously, I am not paying for these items but want to make sure that my good credit rating is not affected. I would return these items but there is no return label or any reference as to how to return these items (another red flag). Please advise me as how to proceed with this. I'm 75 years old and do not need this aggravation! I will try and upload a copy of the bill that I received. Once again, I have NOT paid them anything! Thank you, in advance, for any advice that you can give me.

Bottomline Books sent me their "****** ************* *** ****" hardcover book in January.
I did not order this book, yet they keep sending me a bill. I am under NO obligation to
pay for something I did not order.

I wrote to them via their website in January with no response, and am now sending off a letter to the billing manager on 2/24.

      Here is what I said:

      I received a copy of the **** ****** *************.

I did not order this book. I never saw a message telling me it was coming
unless I said not to send it.

I should not be told now that I either have to pay for the book
or pay to return it. I am under no obligation since I did not order it.

I spoke with the *** store. They will package the book for shipping
for $3.99, and they will mail it back to the Bottomline for $27.69.

Therefore, I will be happy to return this book *I, again, did not order*
as soon as I receive a check from Bottomline to cover the shipping:
      $31.68.

Tricking, then harassing senior citizens is not a good look, Bottomline.

Please REMOVE my mailing address from your list. I will not do business with
your company again. All future mail will go into the trash. I do not like being taken advantage of.

(FYI, They say I owe them $49.94. I did not order from them, therefore I do not owe them anything.)

      Hi *****,

I am sorry you are not pleased with the ****** ************* ****, which is filled with useful information. Please note, you signed up for an annual continuity program whihc is why we mailed you the book....this was not random. Regardless, as a longstanding customer, I am going to clear the balance for this book, ask that you keep the book with the hope that you enjoy it and find it helpful.

I have also removed your name from our mailing list.

Bottom Line books has sent books to my aunt, ***** Brown. ***** died in May, 2024, and I became her successor *******. Neither she nor the trust ordered these books. I refused delivery of another book from this company and wrote them at the time refusing to pay and to demand that they cease sending unrequested books to her.

They have recently sent an invoice for another book that was not requested. I will again refuse delivery, but this has to stop. It wastes **** and my time and money dealing with their garbage books.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

As noted in the attachment above, I contacted Bottom Line Books in December, just after receiving their FIRST invoice.  Shortly thereafter, a parcel came for *****, which I refused on delivery and saw that it was returned to the company. In February, I received another invoice, and a “friendly reminder” notice. I have received no books since I refused the book in December.

If there is a subscription, my letter in December should have ended the matter. Subscriptions end on the death of the customer. That’s what other companies indicated where they were notified of *****’s death. The Trust has no obligation to pay false debts and it is my obligation as a fiduciary ******* to see that it does not pay when proof of legitimate debt cannot be provided. If, however, there is a debt, I need to have that debt verified to provide any payment. I respectfully request that your office provide me with competent evidence that the ***** ***** Living Trust has a legal obligation to pay you. You did not provide that evidence in your response, so I reject your response.

I should note that even a cursory examination of the internet concerning this situation with Bottom Line Books shows that *****’s situation is not all that unique.

Absent compelling proof otherwise,  under current US postal service laws your book is a gift because it was not ordered. I still plan to refuse/return packages from you.

      Sincerely,

      ****** *****

My 87 year old mother received a paperback booklet titled ******* ************ ****. The invoice is #************#. She did not order this nor does she want it. She is unable to read due to MD.
They sent a bill for $28.90.
I did not pay the bill since she did not order the book. I stated on the bill the reason for non-payment.
After the second notice, I requested a postage paid envelope to return the book to them.
I have not received this and have read where this company has been accused of scamming elderly people with this technique.

      Hello,

Please note that an order was in fact placed for this book. It would make no sense for us to create, print and mail books randomly and hope that people pay for them.......not a sustainable business model and I take exception with your remarks. I have cleared your account balance and took you off our mailing list. I hope this resolves your issue. And by the way, please keep and read the book as it may actually be helpful for your Mom.

10/31/24 was the date of the first bill along with the shipment of the book, ******** ** **** *** * ***** for $39.99. I have called 3 different times to return the book and they keep saying they will send a postage paid return label. The last time I called was on Dec. 3, 2024 and yesterday I got another bill in the mail for $50.94 now. They said do not return the book until we get the label, but they never send it. In addition, I have no idea where to return it to. I had to go online to even find a phone number to call them as they don't give that out on any of their information. I have also emailed them twice, but I never receive an answer. This is supposed to be fully refundable if you decide not to keep it. The problem is how and where to return it to. I DO NOT want this book. I have paid them nothing and just want to get rid of this book.
