I am currently 38 weeks pregnant and not going to be medically cleared for some time to work out. on February 23rd, I brought a medical note freezing my membership and cancelling my son's kids club membership. I was told prior to agreeing to a membership I would be allowed to do this. I was also told I can cancel my son's membership AT ANY TIME. i told them when I am having the baby and they told me "get a doctor's note and come in before you have the baby to process all the paperwork." Never did they mention to cancel my son's membership a month prior to mine. They charged me my membership of $37.31 which they say now they will refund, but told me they will not refund my son's because they charge an extra month after cancelation. Now, with my membership being canceled I paid for a kid's club an extra month 3/10-4/10 when I will not be able to bring him because a parental membership needs to be active. So I have a membership with him for no reason and NOBODY TOLD ME THIS PRIOR.

The Edge Fitness Clubs agrees to cancel the child's membership no further due. This account was past due for the March billing, therefore no refund is necessary. The membership has been cancelled with last collected payment on the 2/10/24 dues.

Ms. ******** membership is currently on a 3 month freeze, set to resume billing on 6/10/24. If Ms, ****** is not able to return to the gym by then, she is required to provide an update medical note 5 business days prior to 6/10/24.

If Ms. ****** has any additional concerns or questions, she is advised to contact The Edge Fitness Clubs' member experience team at *********************************.

I am rejecting this response because:

The child’a gym membership WAS charged past 2/10. So a refund is necessary of 19.99.

My gym membership IS on a freeze and was STILL charged.

      Sincerely,

The Edge Fitness Clubs has confirmed that Ms. ******** account freeze was processed in accordance with the freeze document attached to this complaint. Her March 10th dues were refunded in order to retro freeze the account, and her April and May dues are frozen. The delay on freezing March payment was due to awaiting required medical note.

Ms. ******** child's account was billed for the March dues, however the payment was rejected and The Edge Fitness Clubs did not reattempt. The account was cancelled without collecting a March payment.

I signed my granddaughter up for Edge Fitness on March 1st. She enrolled in a month-to-month plan @ $14.99 a month + an initial registration. Because she a minor I had to go with her and I also used my credit card for the monthly fee. When I came home I noticed the girl who took my card charged me for an entire year's dues of $334.50. I immediately called the gym and talked to one of the managers who took my information and said the girl likely just made a mistake and he would have the GM call me on Monday or Tuesday. I did not get a call either of those days so called Tuesday night and talked to someone else who said they would have him call me. I called again on Wednesday and again on Thursday. On Thursday the gentleman I spoke with assured me the GM would call me before he left that evening and I still did not get a call. I called again today and was told the GM was not there and they refused to contact him and said I would get a call next week. I am done waiting for a return call. These are shady business practices as it is now too late to cancel my membership entirely. I want a refund of what I was overcharged for month 1 only + registration fee. I am appalled at the terrible service and lack of attention to this very important and timely issue. One of the people who I spoke with today hung up on me and then when I called back (b/c she can see who is calling) refused to answer the phone. "this is not my fault" she says. I do not care. I am tired of no one returning my calls and she is a representative of that company.

Good morning, I found myself misled and trapped into a membership tier. I was word for word told that “ I would be able to move down to tier 2 from tier 3 with no fee”. This is the sole reason I decided to upgrade to tier 3 and was very convinced to make the move by the worker. Not too long after, I found out this was not the case. I felt tricked. I needed to make the switch because of money and now I’m being told the opposite by everyone. I let this specific edge know of the situation and it was useless, much eventually I was told that they could totally move me from tier 3 and tier 2 but with a fee so I decided to just agree. Then someone came along and said that there actually was no fee involved ( as I initially thought!). We talked over how much I would pay now and I provided all the signatures needed. I was extremely happy. A month later after seeing my gym payment still at tier 3 amount I went up to ask why and I was told that my entire agreement with the employee to move from tier 3 to tier 2 was revoked the day after and this whole time I was paying the higher amount without even any notice from anyone that this had occurred ! I’m happy that i checked my statement or else i would it have noticed. The edge makes me feel so lied to at every step.

The Edge Fitness clubs has reviewed this complaint and apologizes for any misinformation. Members are not eligible for in-term downgrades. However, due to the confusion, the original request will be honored. The membership will be downgraded and the previous 4 months of dues will be credited to the lower tier pricing. CANCELED MEMBERSHIP and my final month was Augusy 2023; they started charging me again in October, or attempted to but I had canceled that credit card. They refuse to cancel the membership unless I pay the dues and late fees totaling over $350! Trying to act like they were doing me a favor, they offered me the forgiveness program. I could pay $55 and restart and commit to a membership agreement - are you kidding me!?!? I canceled this in July for a reason.

The Edge Fitness Clubs has reviewed this complaint and the associated account.

Ms. ******* placed a freeze on her account for the months of August and September, with billing set to resume in October. Please refer to the signed freeze document attached for reference.

Once her freeze ended, the billing resumed as stated. However, the payments were declined for October and November. Ms. ******* reached out to the billing company, *** ******* ********* in December and she was advised of her past due balance and that she would need to make payment on this in order to cancel. Payment was never made, therefore the account remained active and continue to build up past due payments. Ms. ******* was contacted repeatedly via phone, email and text, by the billing company for several months before the account was eventually sent off to collections.

A local club manager also reached out to Ms. ******* earlier this month offering to help her out with the company's forgiveness plan which helps members out of collections, however she denied this offer.

Based on all of the above details and the attached document which was signed by Ms. *******, there were no missteps found on the part of The Edge Fitness Clubs or the billing company *** ******* *********.

However, The Edge Fitness Clubs agrees to have the account removed from collections and cancelled out no further due, as a gesture of goodwill. This process may take up to 5-7 business days to complete.

The Edge Fitness Clubs has reviewed this complaint and the associated account. Ms. ****** first reached out to cancel on 12/26/23. Her account was already past due at this time for her December dues. The agent explained that proof of move, medical or military was necessary as Ms. ****** was still within her membership agreement term. The medical documents that Ms. ****** later provided, were denied as insufficient, as they did not meet the criteria as required in her membership agreement contract. However, the documents were not only eventually approved, her account was cancelled, waiving the past due balance for her December - February dues. The matter appears to have already been resolved.

I have made numerous attempts to cancel my membership over the past few years, with hoops being jumped through just for the attempt at cancelling.

Upon Covid, I had entered the club to cancel my membership but had been told that it was paused due to Covid-19. Understanding of that, the club employee that I talked to said that she could enter in a "Note to Cancel" on my account that would be seen by an employee to take action on upon valid cancellation month. Needless to say that this was not handled.

After this, I had attempted to cancel in person, where I was told to contact the support phone number to cancel. The support phone number then told me I had to go back in person to cancel my membership with the club. Due to the complications of cancelling, I had let the charges continue for the following years.

In early September 2023, I thought I had finally cancelled my membership with this location. I had been getting charged late fees, and was told to remit another $33.98 to the gym and my membership would be released from pending cancellation and would be cancelled. As it was September, my payment should have covered August and September as lates. The club told me I was all set after paying and nothing further was needed from me. This past week I received an emailed collections notice for $362.64. Calling the company, I was told it was $400, After calling the gym, I was told I had to email back to confirm cancellation. The gym, nor the contact at *** said that was the case in September 2023. The gym also said that I could pay $300 in the gym to be released.

Upon further investigation, this seems to be a false collections claim. My bank states that there is no collections against my name, and my credit reflects the same. This appears to be a false claim to get me to buyout.

I do not want a refund, I want these charges waived as I had paid the gym hundreds of dollars over the years with zero use of their facility due to cancelling difficulties.

I went to edge as a guest of a member. To enter I was forced to give multiple methods of contact information that I did not want to provide. I am rejecting this response because:

I have reached out the club and the email provided with no response. I've asked to speak with a regional manager with no response. They respond to the BBB with the same generic message provided to me when I first attempted to raise my concerns with their faculty calling my under aged son and have not even received an apology or explanation on why I need to request that multiple times.

I no longer wish to do business with an organization that won't even acknowledge their own wrongdoing. There must be someone in that organization to make a management decision to comply with my request to cancel this membership agreement.

I had a 1 year contract with the Edge Fitness Club in ********** **. After the year was up I was told I would be month to month, the rates would be hugher and I could cancel at anytime. It has been a year out of contract and I have tried to cancel 3 times, 2 emails and about 10 calls, and I am constantly spam called about an overdue balance. They even charged me 148.83 for a “buyout” even though I was told month to month is not a contract and I can cancel any time. I have not worked out at this gym in over 6 months.

      Business Response

      Date: 02/02/2024

The Edge Fitness Clubs has reviewed this complaint and the associated account. Mr. ******* made an online inquiry on how to cancel in August 2023. Club contacted him back via phone and email to advise of the necessary steps to cancel. This information is also posted on the company website, as well as on all membership agreements. The link to the website info is here: *************************************************************************, and a copy of Mr. *******'s membership agreement is attached for reference.

There is no record of Mr. ******* following up with the required written (email) request to cancel. Therefore, his membership remained active. His account is currently past due for Nov, Dec and Jan dues of $31.89 each. In addition, there are 2 late service fees pending at $29.50 each. Membership cancelations will not be processed unless the account is current.

Although no missteps on the part of the club or the billing company were found, The Edge is willing to help Mr. ******* out by waiving the 2 late service fees, as well as the 30 day notice requirement which would include Feb dues. Mr. ******* is advised to make payment on his Nov, Dec and Jan dues and then reach out to ********************************* to have the service fees waived and the membership cancelled.

Here is the information on how to make payment: *****************************************************************************

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

      Sincerely,

      ****** *******

I would appreciate an email with the true total amount I need to submit to break out of my contract. When I called I was under the assumption that the 147$ was the last amount I ever had to pay and it’s unfortunate that the remote customer service did not forsee this happening.

So I recently (Nov) signed up for Personal Training at the Edge in *******. I sat down with who is the Supervisor of the establishment, and signed up for a 8 30-min session (480). In this we signed an agreement, and was told that if I want to cancel I would need to do before 30 days, must be written, and signed, which I did. I dropped off the cancelation notice in person, gave it to the supervisor that signed me up, she said her and manager approved, and that I was all set. All the sudden I was charged this month (Jan) for 622 for personal training, which I canceled on Nov. I called and all the sudden I'm being notified that there is a 2 minimum personal training, which I was not told about when I signed up. Then on top of that, I pull my agreement, and it states nothing of such thing, the agreement signed was for 1 month, not two. The Managers are not willing to refund the charge considering that it is breach of contract and an unauthorized charged. They are basically commiting fraud. I contacted them, and all the sudden my cancelation document given on November disappeared, and that they filed a cancelation notice all the sudden the day after the charge when I called in, which is on Jan 18th. This is unacceptable and at most, it is unethical for a company to delete documents, make unauthorized charges on policies they do not go over with their clients, and where one has not signed of on the policy or for a second month for personal training. I demand answers and for this company to be held accountable for their unethical business manipulation and false advertisement.
