Last year I received word that my student loans were going to be forgiven. I found on my credit report that all of my loans were forgiven except for one in the amount at the time $9000 from Sallie Mae. I called Sallie Mae as I thought all of my loans were consolidated. I then found that I was a co-signer for this loan without my knowledge. I found out that my son a few years prior while we were estranged used my information and made me a cosigner on his school loan. I understand that these things happen but here is my issue. My issue is that Sallie Mae just took the information from his and used me as a cosigner, they did not contact me or verify that it was me at all. I was able to see the documentation where the cosigner signed for the loan and it is my name typed. There is no signature at all. Sallie Mae has been spam emailing me, calling my phone and calling my job to get the payment for this loan. I wish they would have put this energy into making sure the cosigner was actually me. They said I can get out of co-signing if I press charges against my son. I do not want to go that far I just want my name off of this loan and make him responsible for it. He has not paid it and now I am force to pay for a loan that I did not sign for. They want me to press charges on my son but what I like to do is press charges on them for using my information and not verifying that it was actually me. The other way to get off of the loan they stated was for there to be 12 monthly on time payments and for my son to graduate from college have a good credit score and the means to be able to take over the loan. I am not sure when my son will be going back to school so it looks like I will be stuck with making sure that this payment is made or it will effect my credit. How is Sallie Mae able to get away with using unconfirmed information and making individuals responsible for loans that they did not sign for? I need help in any way I can to get my name off of this loan please.Business Response

Me and my wife took out an $1,800 loan through Sallie Mae to get her in medical training school we had the loss of a child which made it to where she could not continue along with school we have been making double payments 90% of the time for the last 18 months and the bill has only gone down $144 I tried to settle with them today for a reasonable amount being that we have already paid $1,800 on an $1,800 loan and their payoff amount was $1,644 showing no reduction in price basically making us pay the 10 years of Interest no matter if the loan takes 10 years to pay off or not very displeased with this company and wondering why they are allowed to stay in business what they're doing seems flat out criminalBusiness Response

I was given an insane interest rate co-signing my daughter’s school loan. Every company and person I’ve spoken to about it has agreed that it is inhumane and should be illegal! There is no reason to more than triple the amount of money loaned to anyone! Especially not to a child already dealing with mental health issues and a mother struggling to help her obtain her education. DisgustingBusiness Response

I am trying to pay my student loans. This company has no email to use to contact them, so you are forced to use their phone line. I have called at least once a month since June 2023 to speak to the company about payment. Every time I call I get a run around, get enrolled in some program that later I somehow do not qualify for, or get no information at all. The last few times I have called I have been on the phone for over 2 hours. One time getting harassed by the employee on the phone and the second call, Their phone service dropped my call with a representative 4 times so I could not continue my call. I checked immediately after calling them to ensure it was not being dropped on my end. It was not, as it has only occurred when I called Sallie Mae.Business Response

The business responded by stating that they reached out to me directly due to their privacy policy regarding customer identity. Sallie Mae has not made any effort to contact me aside from their usual harassing phone calls. They have made no attempt to email me, which I prefer after all of the issues I’ve had with phone conversations highlighted in my first complaint. (Dropped calls, hang ups, harassment).

I am submitting this complaint against Sallie Mae, regarding fraudulent accounts that were opened in my name using my personal information without my authorization. I have been incarcerated continuously from 2007 to the present, making it impossible for me to have applied for or managed these accounts.Business Response

To Whom It May Concern,I am rejecting the business’s response regarding my dispute with Sallie Mae because the issue remains unresolved. I have disputed this account multiple times through the appropriate channels and have yet to receive a satisfactory resolution or a proper investigation into the matter. As part of my dispute, I submitted official documentation proving that I was incarcerated during the time this account was allegedly opened. Despite providing this evidence, Sallie Mae has failed to address or acknowledge this critical information. The lack of action and transparency in verifying the legitimacy of the account is unacceptable and continues to negatively affect my credit.I am requesting a thorough reinvestigation and a detailed explanation of the verification process conducted in this case. I expect this matter to be handled in full compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

I paid off the online balance to my daughter's almost 12% student loan In December 2024. Then SALLIE MAE said I still owed $14 for ongoing interest... ridiculous! when does it end with this company? They still did not submit statement payments I made on another account. SALLIE MAE is a SCAM!Business Response

Sallie Mae has contacted me from 302-391-8160 numerous times per day sometimes as many as 4 times per day. Calls have come in as late as 930 pm. I have requested by law a detailed explanation of charges. I have asked every call to stop and contact me by mail ( a cease and desist) as allowed by federal law. They have refused to to do this, I have been transferred from person to person. I have been nice, I have been unpleasant and unless i comply with their instructions I'm abruptly disconnect when i try to enforce the cease and desist. I have been told that I am not allowed to record calls on my own, I have been told that they do not have to comply with my request. The FCC and TCPA make it clear my rights and Sallie Mae has clearly violated this. July 10, 2015, the FCC released Declaratory Ruling and Order FCC 15-72 makes it clear that i can revoke being contacted. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) is currently enforced by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).On July 28, 2016, the CFPB announced it was considering several proposals that would overhaul the debt collection market in a number of different ways. I was told I could request deferments and go into a forbearance for 12 months at a time up to 60 months total, I called months ago and was placed into a forbearance and then began getting calls and emails every single day from them asking for payments to be made, they are a terrible company that are full of liars and scam artists. They gave me incorrect information and are terrible people. Respond through the BBB portal, I don’t want a mailed response, I want a response through this portal so your response can be made public.Customer Answer

I have contacted Sallie Mae twice regarding a payment that was sent on my behalf from the Texas Higher Board of Education in Oct in the amount of 7000.00. It was sent with a memo with my first and last name, the last four of my SSN along with last four of my loan number. The first called said I needed to call back with the check number which I contacted Texas Higher Education Board and they sent me the check information number in the amount 21000.00 which 5000.00 was for another person and 7000.00 on my behalf. Sallie Mae refused to update my account. I was approved for Nurse Repayment Faculty repayment and yet this company would prefer I keep paying to continue consume interest.
