My ADT service was provided as a free service, courtesy as I transitioned out from my ****** Home security services. When my ADT monthly bill began, I received no prior notifications about the subscription charges, nor did I provide my consent that I want to sign up for the paid service. The business charged me for the monthly fee of $19.9 for both of my home locations without my authorization. When trying to contact ADT for cancellation, I found it bizarrely hard. They kept transfer me on the call center and then told me to call back during weekdays instead. When reading on reddit, it's clear that the cancellation process was awful (some cited taking 5 hours on the phone with them). I am surprised by how irresponsible and lack of customer service ********************** is.Business Response

I contacted ADT on 4/17/2025 because my wall panel arming device screen was black and I was unable to arm my alarm for a week. They attempted to restart remotely without success . I was told it was an outdated model but a technician could come out for $59.99. I refused and ask to have my services disconnected. I refused all attempts to continue my services. I was told that as a "courtesy " until I could get my ring cameras up, my services would continue until the end of April. I had no idea that agreeing to this "courtesy" would extend my contract. I was very clear about discontinuing my services and was surprised when I got back into town that not only had I been charged for May but June as well. I have not had the use of ADT services because it hasn't been working and since my ring cameras are in for over a month, I am not exactly sure what I am being charged for. I have asked to have their outdated, nonfunctional equipments out of my house but all they are asking is $99.98 of my hard working money. I believe using the term "courtesy"is an enticement to extend my contract unwilling.Business Response

ADT has reviewed the account and found the charges are valid. We have reviewed the call from 4/14/2025 and the customer did call in to cancel her ********************. The initial offers made were declined. The agent then said she would be right back she needed to get the process started and to read a disclosure about the equipment. Once the agent came back to the line, she made one final offer which was a 1-month credit and explained it would cover until 4/30/25 and give her time to research and make a final decision. Ms. ****** accepted the offer and said she would contact us back once she looked around and the call ended. The account was not cancelled as the offer was accepted. We did not hear back from the customer until 6/3/25 and at that point ********************** processed the cancellation effective 7/3/2025. We have spoken with the customer and provided her the outcome of the call. We did offer a courtesy credit of 1 month leaving a balance owed of $49.99 in which the customer said she will make the payment for the balance owed. No further action will be taken.Customer Answer

We have had service with ADT for 15+ years. We lived in ********* in our home for almost 20 years and in October 2025 I finally set up to shut off our service because we had purchased a new home and moved to *******. I noticed once in ******* I was still being charged the monthly service charge. I contacted them and they assured me that the account was no longer active and service was in fact turned off. Again we continued to be charged the monthly service charge, months after we had moved out of our home. Both my wife and I continued to contact ADT and they continued to state that we have no open account and have no charges set up under the checking account number that my wife provided them. My wife contacted the bank to get all the charges credited back to our checking account and put a stop payment on any further attempts to charge our bank account. Once this was in place I received robocalls stating that our account was past due and needed to be paid immediately. Again, I contacted them and they said they are not sure why or how we are still getting calls and emails about payment and that there is no open account for us. Just this week we received a mailed letter stating we are going to be turned to a collection agency if our account is not paid up. I have spoke to so many agents and my wife sent an email to an account specialist per a conversation she had with an agent and they continue to tell us there is no open account and the account number that is referenced was closed out in October 2025 per my request. We are getting no where and if this goes to collection I will be extremely upset. We are stuck with no where else to turn to get this resolved.Business Response

Upon review of the account,the customer got an **********************+ (DIY) account created when they moved for their temporary billing address This is why the account continued billing. The account went out of service due to non-payment and ADT removed the **** and brought the balance down to zero. On 6/3/25 my wife and I signed with ADT after the dust settled we realized that all the equipment we specifically said we DID NOT WANT that the tech said he got clearance from his boss to give us "for free" because he was genuinely concerned for the safety of our home we were charged for every bit of that free equipment. Once we realized that information we cancelled our contract within the 3 day cooling off period as per NYS Law and ADT contract language. The equipment is still sitting in our home and we cannot receive a refund for the equipment until a tech is sent to remove it. We have contacted ADT every day for weeks trying to resolve this issue and we are told every time that this is an issue for the local branch. We are told every time we have to wait for the local branch to contact us, there is no way for us to get in touch with them to arrange a date to pick up the equipment. ADT account management is useless and does not provide you with any information regarding timelines and simply **** you off onto the local branch that you have no way of contacting. They will not provide you with supervisors on the phone to speak to and have constantly told us they have left notes for higher level managers to call us and we have not received any correspondence. We want this equipment out of our home because we don't want it, the company used extremely unethical sales techniques and we want nothing to do with them. The longer this equipment is in our home the more chance is has to become damaged a cost I'm sure we would be responsible for which I believe is their game plan . They were at our house in less then 24 hours to sell us this equipment and trick us but now we can't get out of this. We want this equipment out of our home so we can put his terrible experience with ADT behind us and not have to waste our time being told on the phone everyday that's there's nothing we can do.Business Response

In April of 25, we moved into a home with an existing ADT wall monitor, sensors, cameras, and smoke detectors. We had no desire in using ADT, but our smoke detectors kept going off at random, and we didnt have a code for the unit to disable it, so the fire department would be at our house every other day. I called ADT to send out a tech, because they said they couldnt reset the code without sending out a tech. The tech tried to sell me on ADT service, which I was very clear I did not want. He eventually said that I would have to pay for a month of service for him to be able to give me a code to disarm the smoke alarms. Three months later, Im getting calls saying that I owe $180. I called, explained that I never even signed up for service, and was told that I agreed to a 3 year contract, and that it would cost over $1000 to cancel. I asked for a copy of the contract, and my signature had been forged on a contract that I had never seen prior. The phone agent said he would reduce the bill to $19 while an investigation took place. Every day since then, I have received excessive calls from ADT demanding I pay the balance. The latest agent, who I spoke to at 11:56am 6/20/25, went as far as getting an attitude with me when I explained I wasnt paying it because it was fraudulent. I will NEVER suggest ADT to anyone. This is bully tactic business, and their employees lack any sense of respect. First they forge a contract for the commission, and then Im talked down to when I explain why Im not paying anything.Business Response

On Monday, June 16, 2025, I contacted ADT to cancel my service due to persistent irregularities, poor equipment quality, and general dissatisfaction with the service. That day, I spoke with a customer service manager and explained that I had been charged for services I was not receiving. After reviewing my account and confirming that the information I provided was accurate, the manager proceeded to cancel the accountwithout offering any apology, refund, or explanation.Despite the cancellation, my credit card was charged for the final month of service, in addition to a contractual balance for an agreement that was created without my knowledge or *************, June 20, 2025, I called ADT again and spoke with an account manager named Yas, who explained the nature of these charges. Nevertheless, I was ultimately forced to pay for poor service and what I believe to be deceptive business practices on the part of ADT.I am formally requesting: A full refund of the most recent charge, totaling approximately $400 USD. ADT spoke with the customer and explained that he was charged for early contract termination charges and for the remaining equipment loan balance of $351.58 from job ********* on 5/23/22. ADT will waive the early contract termination charges as a goodwill, but the equipment loan balance is valid,will not be waived and the payment will not be refunded.
Customer feels that he did not have a contract with ADT and that the system did not work. ADT does have a signed contract (attached) on file. ADT does not have record of any service job requests for the Trouville Dr.location.

I am writing to formally express my concerns regarding recent charges applied to my account. I would like to clarify that no contract was signed with my informed consent for continued service or equipment at my current address (******************). I acknowledge that I entered into an equipment agreement; however, the device provided never functioned as intended, despite multiple service complaints made while residing at my previous location.
I have made timely payments in good faith, yet the equipment never delivered the promised performance. I also offered to return the device, which I no longer use or wish to retain. It is my position that continued billing for a non-functional device I attempted to return is neither reasonable nor ethical.
I am not requesting a full refund, only that I not be charged for a piece of equipment that is non-functional and not in use. To date, I have not received any satisfactory resolution to this issue.
I respect your right to enforce your policies; however, this communication serves as a formal record of my complaint before escalating this matter to consumer protection authorities or pursuing alternative resolution channels.Thanks

I have called the company multiple times. There are two issues going on. One is a monthly billing issue, and the other is the company is refusing to give me a written agreement that I own the equipment that was installed in my home. Starting on 6/30/2024, I called about ADT raising my monthly service rate. Not only are they charging me the incorrect amount,, they raised it. I will attach a copy of my contract signed by myself and the ADT *********** multiple phone calls, they do not have any documentation on file and are just charging me an amount that they made up. They refuse to correct it. I will attach the billing history so you can ****** that same contract, it states that i should have been provided a separate written agreement that I own the equipment since I paid for it in full upon installation. I will also attach my credit card statement so this can be verified to be true. When i call, they state I own my equipment, but refuse to put it in writing. ADT reviewed the call from 06/03/2024 and has confirmed that the representative offered to remove the rate increase. The rate increase wasnt removed. Complaint Against ADT: Unauthorized ******************** Info I'm filing a formal complaint against ADT for unauthorized charges and misleading information from their customer service and sales teams.Service ******************* Status My ADT service began on July 1, 2023, with the initial contract ending July 1, 2024. From July 1, 2024, to January 1, 2025, service was month-to-month. As of March 1, 2025, and continuing "till date" (June 19, 2025), we've been on a month-to-month agreement.ADT stated our two-year contract lapsed before January 2025, meaning we were not under contract when we cancelled.Discrepancy in Charges Despite not being in contract, ADT imposed "hefty charges" for cancellation. When I called the ****************** team, an ADT customer service executive named ******** explicitly stated the only pending balance was $19.99, and that paying this would clear everything.However, we then received a bill for $219.37, which is irrelevant and directly contradicts ********** statement. This is unacceptable, especially since we were not under contract.Misleading Sales Information When initially signing the contract before 2023, the sales agent told us monitoring would be $10/month after the contract ended. This information was misleading and contributed to our current issues.Request for BBB Action I urge the BBB to investigate. Cancellation of services. As of one year ago a sales person from ***** came to my home solicitating security service. I was new to the area and really didnt know what to expect, and so I purchased a small security set from the field **** A few months ago I requested a cancellation from them because 1. It has become a financial burden and the service didn't meet my expectation and I have good neighbors who look out for me. I didn't receive anything telling me ADT would be taking over my account until I recieved an email telling me I owed ****** dollars to ADT and noticed ***** dollars had been taken from my account. I never signed/ agreed to auto pay with ADT. The camera never worked and the equipment I have is from Alder. I have been in my home now for *** and a half with no issues with crime in my area. I called ADT to cancel the service and I was told by ADT **** I needed to pay over 1000 immediately to cancel a five year contract that I had with *****, I never agreed to have service with ADT. I never gave ADT permission draft money from my account. The *** from ********************** offered me a 5yr contact with them to lower the price or I can keep paying the amount I agreed to with Alder for the next 5yrs. Alder was 1 yr from my understanding. If ***** broke their own contract for whatever the reason why am I being forced/ bullied into accepting service from ADT. I made all my payments on time and I don't want this on my credit ***ort.. I didn't ask for a refund, just a cancellation. 2) Mr ****** from ADT responded to my complaint and stated I would not be responsible for any future fees with ADT and the remaining fees with *****.
3) Mr ****** stated I would receive a refund the last auto-pay from my bank for $57.35 and today I received a bill for $1.93 cent that will be drafted from my account next month July 2025.
This is not funny or a game to me. I am on a fixed income. The service I had was basic and I don't need it and I will never do business or recommend Alder or ADT
There is something really wrong here. I will go to my bank as well and discuss what is happening.The public should be warned. If they are going to lie what is the call. Annoying.

Harassment by ADT I have been getting phone calls from ADT for no unknown reason! I did answer once & requested to be removed from their calling list. They still continued to call & left messages which I have deleted. I finally blocked them & reported the phone call as spam. They are still continuing to call me.
