The roofing proposal/contract was for removal of an asphalt shingle roof and replacement with a metal roof as described in the Proposal. The Proposal explicitly stated that the work to be conducted, "Includes modified flat roof replacement," as outlined in the narrative of the Proposal. No part of the roof was excluded. I accepted and signed the original Proposal on December 22, 2022, with a modification to upgrade the roof color on January 03, 2023. Clyde Johnson Roofing completed the work circa May 17, 2023, using a Roof Inspection Certification Letter dated June 1, 2023 (inspection conducted remotely by *************************************************** of *******, ******* using narrative and photos supplied by Clyde Johnson) to acquire a Lee County Certificate of Completion dated June 11, 2023. Neither certificate was provided to me, despite repeated requests, until September 25, 2023. While all of this work was conducted more than 12 months ago, I only recently (March 2025) discovered that the completed work did not include the entire modified flat roof replacement as outlined in the signed Proposal. I did not discover this because normal 50 year olds do not get on their roofs very often, AND their was allegedly an engineering report certifying the work was completed. Approximately 50% of the flat roof area (15% of the overall roof area) is the same roof that existed prior to Clyde Johnson's work. I paid for the entire roof with none excluded, but only received ~80% of the job. 20% of the $25,550 contract price (minus color upgrade cost) is $5110Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:It is true that I met with their representative, and that his proposal for remedy was appropriate and satisfactory. However, that was on April 29. Since that time, none of the actions described have been taken. It was explained to me, today, that materials have been ordered and why there was a delay. However, it feels like I fell off of their radar, yet again. Please keep this complaint open until a remedy has been completed or until June 1.

Clyde Johnson Roofing and Contracting was hired by our *************************** as General Contractor and Roofer. On April 13th, ***************************************************************** the roof lining which caused water intrusion into our unit ceiling and across to other units as well. On April 17th, 2023, their subcontractor Serv-Pro removed the Mansard of our building and failed to seal it off for the day and during the rain over night water poured into our unit by the sliding glass doors and also into other units as well. Then on May 31st, 2023 the crew was removing the membrane roof and apparently neglected to release a drain cap which caused a 4 inch drain pipe to be dislodged causing EXTENSIVE water damage to our unit. They have assumed no responsibility for any of this damage and expect us to believe this was all just COINCIDENTAL to their actions. Also, no care was taken in moving furniture causing damages and the ductwork was not treated for mold prior to engaging the Air conditioning..Business Response

There are a few incorrect statements and misinformation in this complaint.
On April 13th a tear was identified, it is unclear whether this was caused by the abatement company hired by ******* (CCI), Servpro, or CJC. Due to not being able to identify the responsible party, *** stated they would cover damages from the minor water intrusion which consisted of Kilz Primer & Paint in unit 501.On April 17th, the misinformation is that Servpro was our sub-contractor. This is not correct, and we cannot assume responsibility for a contractor hired by the association.
On May 31st there was extensive water intrusion caused by a drain line fernco fitting failing behind the wall (Please see attached Daily Report as well as attached Forensic Engineering Report). The reported water intrusion into Units 501 and 401 was the result of a faulty connection of the roof drainage pipe which existed prior to the reroofing efforts. CJC Promptly Brought in our Industrial Hygienist (assessment attached) installed dehumidifiers, air scrubbers and preformed mitigation of the unit. This was additionally turned into the Condo associations open insurance claim for hurricane *** damages and was approved. The owner was instructed to take this documentation and turn it into their H06 Policy as well to cover what the condos insurance does not. Please have the previous owner provide photos of the damage to furniture in unit as they never met to discuss or show us. This unit has also since received a new HVAC system as well as having the ductwork scheduled to be sanitized at the end of construction.

In May 2023 we paid in full for our roof installation. The crew disconnected the guy wires supporting the electrical mast on our roof and left them hanging. We notified Clyde Johnson company and they assured us they would reimburse us. The mast was bent. FPL inspection dictated entire mast needed to be replaced by electrician. The cost was $1764.25. Although we agreed to accept $750.00, Clyde Johnson has not reimbursed us for any of the repair as of the date of this complaint...5 months later. Calls are not returned and frustration is growing. What an awful way to conduct business.Business Response

On or about 11/3/2021 I entered into and executed a contract with Clyde Johnson Contracting & Roofing, Inc., to install a new roof on my 91 year old mother's home. The first installment was paid on 11/15/21 to Clyde Johnson Contracting & Roofing, Inc. They begin working on the roof on 2/8/22 and advised the work was competed 2 days later on 2/10/22. Upon my inspection of the completed work the job was not completed correctly per the contract. They also forged her signature on documents to obtain a completed inspection by the inspectors for the ***************** and is now preventing my now 93 year old mother from ascertaining homeowners insurance. I reached out to advise that the work was not completed per the contract entered into. I spoke to both *** and ***** Johnson to resolve this issue. At that time both agreed to fix the roof correctly per the executed contract, however to date nothing has been done to correct their breach of contract. No one has reached out to me since to correct this, however I am receiving bills from them for an incomplete job. I even filed a Complaint with DBPR to resolve this matter and this company lied and said the job was completed correctly, when in actuality it was not. This company has taken advantage of a 93 year old woman and refuses to correct their wrong doing. Her home is unable to be insured at this time due to their lack of professionalism. I have reached out through other resources to try and get this resolved without court action, however I have been unsuccessful. This company needs to finish the job correctly per the contract entered into by the parties so that my mother can obtain homeowners insurance.Business Response

I hired this company based on good recommendations, however, that was one of the worst decisions ever made. How can a company's service go down the drain so fast? Is it the crews they send to different projects? Whatever it is, I am stuck with a roof that is not complete, and they are asking for the remainder of the money. The roof is missing tiles, leaking in several spots, now going through the drywall into the ceiling, so the damage is done. They promised to fix the screen they damaged, and clean up after themselves. The metal roof tiles are bent, some are missing, and not installed right. It is strange and disturbing how the roof even passed the inspection. One may only surmise the pictures sent to the engineer are from good parts. There is only radio silence. It is very hard to get someone when you need to. It appears the staff in the office is helpful, but when it comes to project managers you find yourself thrown in different directions. There is absolute miscommunication, and no sense of responsibility or urgency. Several people pass the ball to each other, and even disagree on how things need to be done. They are unprofessional and sloppy, messy, and at this point I shall add low quality of workmanship. I had been thinking to hire them to add gutters, but that is not a mistake I'll be making.Business Response

Good morning ******,
Our sincerest apologies for the current state of your roof. We had full trust that our roofing crew was experienced and skilled enough to install your roof. Unfortunately, the outcome was not as expected, but our company is taking full responsibility for the work and damage. We had our project manager go out to the property on August 8th, 2023, to inspect all aspects of the roof and the leak which you are aware, since you authorized and provided access. You are very well aware that we as a company are making the effort to correct our mistakes. We have a punch list and will successfully fulfill every line item listed.
This workmanship is far from our expectations and standards, but we truly apologize. We have been in contact with you many times in regards to the roof and ensured that we will be taking care of the roof. *** and ******** have been working together with scheduling a day for metal crew to go out and complete the punch list.
Please give our office a call at #************ for further questions or concerns as we are available 8am - 5pm, Monday through Friday.
Thank you!

I am rejecting this response because:I am waiting for the crew to come back. If everything is fixed to satisfaction, I shall update my answer. It is true that someone finally looked at the house, and I mentioned such, after a month or so trying not to get my concerns brushed aside. The time before that, someone came in just to take pictures, and had no idea about roofing. Soon after he left, in less than 10 minutes, ** said the roof is finished.
So, again, respectfully, my answer will change when the roof and damages are finished, and to satisfaction.
Sincerely,

I would like to escalate my complaint to requesting my money back, that I have already paid for. This company has breached the contract and has yet to show up to fix the leaks. There is now a new leak that showed up in the upstairs ceiling. I have notified them of this fact, I was told they'd take care of, yet nothing. We are now facing a tropical storm, with a Category 3 Hurricane, and a leaking roof. The longer we wait, the more damage will be done. There were promises that part of the roof will be replaced, but, again, only promises.
At this point, I have absolutely no trust that they will be doing a better job than they did in the first place. There were told several times to cover holes, and they didn't. Even if we do wait, how long will it be? Until another hurricane, or next year?
For all these reasons and more, I am requesting the money I paid back. The job is not done, yet the county was told that it was finished.
If I don't receive the money back, I shall pursue further legal action.

I have received no response from the company. For the moment, I can give them another chance to finish the roof, however I am requesting for them to do the courtesy of adding gutters to my house. I have to also cover for the cost of hiring an independent inspector, not to mention all the time, and trouble I've received. Therefore, I consider it more than a fair offer.
I would ask them to please respond asap. I'd greatly appreciate it.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience we have caused you. As we have stated before we have not refused to correct or repair any of the issues you have presented. We answer when the homeowner calls, and we have ordered the necessary material to correct all the issues with per *********************************** who is a PM of ours. We are owning up to this situation and taking full responsibility. To be clear and 100% transparent - we will not be refunding any money back as we are correcting all items addressed and fulfilling the contract between the customer and CJC.

I am rejecting this response because:I will, therefore, await for people to show up.
When I get messages that someone will be right over, it does not actually happen. Therefore, I'll see when will actually someone will show up. I also expect to not have the same engineer who incorrectly passed the roof due to pictures sent to them. I would need an independent inspector, unless the previous engineer comes out himself and inspects, as he had previously said he would, but did not.
These back and forth where people are sent who do not know what is going on, is unacceptable. Please pick the correct crew and project manager to come over. I do not have the luxury of having my own business, and responding whenever. The phone calls due to mismanagement has caused me to get in trouble at work for having the phone on me, awaiting your call.
This has been nothing but a disaster. Therefore, I'm reserving judgement, and expecting a satisfactory resolution as soon as possible.
Sincerely,

I am writing an update with regards to this project. I have not had any communication from anyone coming out to fix anything.
Additionally, I have hired a forensic inspector that I had to pay out of pocket. Many of the findings revealed improper flashing installation in several spots, poor workmanship and water damage due to leaks which have yet to be fixed while it now endangers the structure.
At this point, I am at a loss as to what it will take for this project to be corrected.

The company fixed the leak damage ultimately, and finally the roof is done. Upon receiving independent inspections on the roof and the wet walls, I consider the work/matter to be closed to satisfaction. I expect to receive a paid invoice final receipt.
Thank you.
