I am filing a complaint against Culligan Water Company located at *********************************************************************************** for charging me for parts and labor that I am not responsible for since I am renting their equipment which is a salt tank and two brine tanks. I received multiple bills for excessive amounts since March 24, 2024. The first bill from 3/31/24 until 4/15/2024 was ******. The bill from 4/30/24 was ******* which was adjusted after I filed a complaint with their assistant office manager, ********. She stated I owed ****** instead. My bill dated 6/30/24 until 7/15/24 was ******. The most current bill from 7/31/24 until 8/15/24 is ******. I submitted a complaint with *********** fraud department since I did not authorized these charges which they deducted in July 2024. Also, I do not have a formal contact with this company authorizing them to deduct money from my checking a count. Trust Bank fraud department closed this account and is sending me a new debit card.Business Response

We have talked several times with ****** on her account their were family issues going on in the household and she was not able to afford the bill at the time so we removed her existing equipment and installed something cheaper for her. I informed her of the credits that would be done on the account and the amount that was due at the current time. We never pulled any money from her account we have no credit card or banking information on file for her. She did a payment with her bank and a bank check was sent to us in the mail that she initiated.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:
There were no family issues occurring at the time. I asked then to remove the chlorinator tank since the water still had bacteria in it. The company has been charging me fees for removal and parts needed for the tank system I have for my well. I am renting the equipment not purchasing the system. I never signed a contract with Culligan and do not own their equipment. I never received a bill stating all the charges for the 715. 22 which was deducted without my knowledge and authorization. The fraud department at *********** is investigating this issue as well. I feel I was severely overcharged for culligan equipment and parts which I do not own or are responsible for. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, *********************

Purchased a new unit from Culligan of Melbourne, **** **** **** May 2022 for 5k (will not let me select)
I spoke with a representative in June and advised the salt had not moved since installed and was told it was due to a better efficiency.
Called July advised water was yellow and a technician was sent out, he stated the pipe was clogged due to glue from install.
Called September advised water was again yellow, a technician came out said pipe was clogged.
Called October advised water again yellow and still not added any salt to system. Technician came out, stated was clogged due to incorrect salt. Advised technician it was what they put in.
Called November advised water again yellow, technician came out, did his thing.
Called January 09 , again yellow water . Technician came out, said meter needed replacing. I advised I was tired of drinking this water, showed him the stained water reservoir for my coffee maker, he then leaves stating I am harping at him and refuses to make repair. By the time I called and was connected with owner he already called to save his butt. I advised owner I am tired of calling, tired of replacing linens etc and wanted system replaced. Was told they would NOT replace it and someone else would be out the next day.
Today, March 6, water AGAIN yellow, called and was told sometimes some tweaking is needed and the technician who refused to make repairs will be here sometime March 9th.
Our toilet was so stained we had to replace it, I have thrown out clothes, towels and sheets. We are nearly a year in. I don't think this is tweaking anymore. We are passed that time frame. At this point it needs to be replaced or removed with a refund.Business Response

Operations manager was able to get into the home and found that the water tested soft and no iron. He did find a smell in the master shower and removed the old filter. Smell dissipated and advised customer to call if smell returns. On 3/28/23, office manager left a message for customer, but as of 3/31/23, we have not heard back.Customer Answer

Should I have any further issues with this resolution I will request to reopen this complaint.

I had multiple water tests from different company come out to test my water for iron and other minerals. On their website, culligan offers a free water test, however when Mike the sales person came out to test the water and give me a quote I was quickly caught off guard when they said it was an advanced test. The test was exactly the same as the other two water companies that gave me quotes and tested the water. There was nothing different that the culligan sales person did from the other two. He tested the water from the well, checked the water on the inside to assess the water quality. Either the other two water testers were lying about the softener and the quality of water or Mike. The fact they offer a free water testing and did nothing different is why I wanted to report culligans. After reading other reddit posts, it appears this is a common practice with culligan.Business Response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/11/23) */
************** technically is not a customer of Culligan of Daytona Beach. Under the same address, we have a client (Morgan) that called and setup the inspect N check of a current non Culligan water softener. The cost of 39.95 was advised during this call. When our rep. arrived, he was advised that the caller would not be present during the visit and that he (******) would handle it. Our rep. did test the water at the well site as well as inside the home. He found a trace of sulfur at both locations with it being slightly worse on the hot water. The water softener was found to not be functioning properly. Even so, a water softener will not remove sulfur. Additional equipment is needed for sulfur removal. Our rep offered rental, and financing pricing. After discussion and all questions were answered, they walked outside and Mr.******** asked how to pay the 39.95 and wrote a check.
Culligan does offer a free water test for home owners interested in purchasing new equipment. In the situation that there is existing equipment, we offer either an inspect check for 39.95 or service call for 129.00
Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/11/23) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Culligan water should clearly put a disclaimer on their website. The website says "Schedule a free Consolation". Website appears to other disclaimers, not related to the free consolation (See all images below). Clock on softener was reset due to loss of power. After rep left, softner clock was reset. Softener was inspected by another technician. Test from inside the home tested water quality tested in Culligan's chart passed as potable drinking. The Culligan rep was unsure how the water softener worked and was unsure if it was working or not. Inconclusive evidence to show water softener was clearly not working. Culligan's website is misleading to the public about free water consolation with no disclaimers to clearly indicate a condition must be met.
