Synergy said they could rewire the solar panels I have, add 9 more panels and put new inverter boxes in. This was done May 24th, as of this writing, it has been 9 weeks and it has not been inspected yet! So I have no idea if it even works. Im told my file has been escalated but have no idea what good that does, still waiting.Business Response

Thank you for sending this complaint over to **. After looking over this Customers account history, it looks like we had a Solar Technician scheduled to service the panels on July 25th. The technician was running a bit late, but was on his way to this Customer's house. Our Service team explained that the tech was only a few minutes away, the Customer told the agent that she no longer wanted to move forward with the service scheduled for that day. We will continue to work with her as long as she allows our techs access to the solar equipment.Customer Answer

I tried calling the business and text the technician I had to leave since no one let me know he would be 3 1/2 hours late. At no time was he there to do anything with the solar panels! Only fix the holes in the garage walls they caused! At this time my panels have been on the house for over 9 weeks and have not been inspected.

We sincerely apologize that this process has taken more time than expected. The delays were a result of needing to revise the permit and waiting on the city to approve. We have received those approvals and we should be reaching out to schedule the inspection soon.Initial Complaint

This company has left us with panels that not operational and a $78,000 loan that we are now paying off on top of our FPL bill, which will continue UNTIL they get the job done to make our panels operational since. We need electricity!! We have been extremely patient with this process. But we keep getting the runaround and this seems to be a complete scam. We are left with no answers, more questions. The fact that we are paying off panels that are not operational while still paying FPL is a joke. Especially because there is no sense of urgency to get our panels operational. You made us sign the loan and now you got paid for installing panels and left us with non working panels on our roof? We got the panels installed May 2023 and were told it would be operational in a couple weeks after inspection comments were addressed. Its now been months and nothing has been addressed. We call multiple times a week and get the same story that you are putting a notification to the engineer department which at this point, seems to be nonexistent. Furthermore, we were told you had a loan by back program and we just had to send our monthly bill to get reimbursed.. well we did that, and NOW we are told you changed your by back program to reimbursing once panels are operational. We are demanding answering before we have to pursue legal action. Whats the status of addressing the inspection comments? Whats the new anticipated date that our panels will be operational? Beyond answering those questions, we need a call from someone in your engineering department immediately with a summary of their progress and to continue to work with us throughout.Business Response

Thank you for sending this complaint over to us. Sunergy sincerely apologizes for the delay that this customer has experienced during the system activation process. We will continue to provide updates to the customer as we receive them.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: although since this complaint has been filed, we have received slight movement with them coming to our house to take new pictures, the job is not complete yet and we will not close this out until we continue to see progress and the panels ultimately become operational. Additionally, the company refused to reimburse us for the monthly fee right now (which they originally said they have a loan buy back program and would reimburse us until panels are operational each month). We would like the reimbursements and to continue to see movement and urgency to get our panels operational. One week of minimal movement does not makeup for months of no movement. The job needs to be complete for this to be closed out and we expect our reimbursement for what weve paid for the loan until panels are operational.
Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because:
Here we are again. After filing this complaint, the company seemed to finally give us minor movement by coming to our house to take photos. Then responded to the complaint that they were working on this as if thinking itd be resolved. Weeks later, the photos are still sitting on engineers desk with no revised plans, no deadline given to us for revising plans and submitting to city. Their engineering team is so slow and at this point, it feels that team is non existent as we still are not able to make contact with any manager or rep specifically in the engineering department. The work needs to be completed submitting to city for this to be resolved. Finish the job!

Our Resolutions team has remained in contact with this customer in hopes to resolve their concerns. I am rejecting this response because: we are still waiting to proceed with two months of reimbursement. While we appreciate that, it is a short-term solution as weve already paid more than 2 loan payments and are expected to continue paying them. For 25 years. The engineering team has yet to communicate with us, there should be no reason for it taking this long at this point. They need to step it up and get to work and/or hire an entire new engineering team that knows what theyre doing. They seem to give us hope right before they respond to this complaint, then the team gets lazy again and ultimately, we are still in the same position we were when this complaint was filed. Nothing has been filed to city for approval.

I am rejecting this response because: Just to update on the last response, their two months reimbursement has still not been received. We havent gotten any paperwork to sign off on that reimbursement, so that didnt end up getting executed as a VERY short-term solution for two months out of 25 years expected to pay off a loan for so far, panels that are not operational. The latest update is the same engineering team has not yet completed plans and submitted to city. Their update is very vague with updates like slight movement but not done yet. They can even elaborate one what movement means could mean the pictures just moved from one desk to the next, if there are even engineers really at the company, which doesnt seem to be the case at all.
They sold us a dream to sign a contract and we are living a nightmare. Their updates are not real updates, their team is very disorganized and they have proven time and time again that they cannot actually get the job done.
Sincerely,

I contracted with SUNERGY for solar cells. They claimed that the engineer would determine how many panels needed to supply the kilowatts I was using. They claimed installation would be in accordance with the engineering specs. The specs called for a clip for my standing seem roof rather than penetration. Penetrating screws were used voiding my new roofs warranty. They refused to correct the issue. Then, a tornado damaged the roof requiring a new roof. They charged $10,000 to remove and replace the panels. The cost of the solar cells is $278/month and the solar cells only produce around $100/month. So, this month my power bill is $800 plus $278. Their contract does not guarantee the number of kilowatts produced. That made sense to me since you cant predict the number of sunny days. However, I didnt expect to have to pay more per month rather than less. This feels like a SCAM to me. I would like for them to remove the solar cells and refund the amount I paid since they are not even paying for themselves, much less reducing the power bill.Customer Answer
Date: 07/24/2023
CLARIFICATION:
SUNERGY was contacted AFTER the tornado, not BEFORE, The roofing contractor went on the roof and saw that the standing seam roof was penetrated because the proper clips, specified by Sunergys engineer, were not used, he told me SUNERGYs installation voided the roof warranty for the recently installed metal standing seam roof I purchased. I contacted SUNERGY and did not get a resolution to the issue. In fact, I was told I agreed to the roof penetration which was ridiculous and untrue. (There is no written agreement to that effect. The agreement I signed stated that the installation would be in accordance to the specifications of the engineer, which called for a non penetrating clip.) (The same happened with the contractor and his roof was replaced by the solar company he used) Since I got no satisfaction, I realized I needed a lawyer. Close to $1,000 in legal fees later no agreement was reached. Unbeknownst to me, during the negotiations, was that ultimately the entire roof would have to be replaced, due to the tornado damaging more than 25 percent of the roof. Sunergy would not even agree to remove and replace the panels on the new roof, using the proper clips, without cost. They charged approximately $10,000. to install with the proper clips which should have been used in the first place, in accordance with our written agreement as specified by their own engineer.
I complained a month after the panels were reinstalled in December 2022 about the high electric bills and was told I was not signed up for net metering and that was the reason the bill was so high. I called FPL and found I was on net metering.
I called again and was told they take a few months to cycle. I waited a few months, for it to cycle, and there was no improvement I called again, and this time a technician came out and said a cable needed replacing. He replaced the cable and they are still not producing enough to cover their cost. I called Enphase today and they said there was a problem and to call the installer after they rebooted. It has been 7 months and my electric bills are higher than ever. As stated before, this month was over $800 plus $278, and they have been as high as $900.
it is one problem after another and I have yet to have the power bill reduced enough to even cover the cost of the solar cells.
Also, although it was spoken and not in the contract, the sales team told me that if I died their would be nothing more owed. I called management and asked with the sales person listening and was told that was not true. I cautioned them never to tell someone that again.
Although not in the contract, the sales people painted the picture that the engineer would build the system to produce the necessary kilowatts and I would not be subjected to price hikes by FPL and my bill should only be the $15 per month for maintenance fee charged by FPL for net metering.
These high electric bills plus cost of solar cells is causing me financial hardship. I want them to remove them and reimburse me for the cost of them. At least I wont have $278 additionally to pay each month. They would only be out labor and can reuse the cells.
My neighbor has less cells than I do (32 vs 50) and he has zero electric bill.
Customer Answer
Date: 07/24/2023
I contacted them AFTER, not BEFORE the tornado. The roofing contractor said the roof penetrations voided the roof warranty. He had a similar problem and his entire roof was replaced by his solar company. I tried to reason with them and got no where. I hired a lawyer and paid close to $1,000 and got no where. In fact, they claimed I agreed to have my roof penetrated with screws (ridiculous and totally untrue). The agreement I signed said the installation would be in accordance with the Engineers specs which called for non penetrating clips.
Ultimately insurance paid to replace the roof since it had more than 25 percent damage.
Sunergy would not even agree to remove and reinstall the panels on the new roof without cost. They took no responsibility for not installing in accordance with their own policy of following the engineers specs; damaging the roof and negating the roof warranty. They charged us approximately $10,000 to correct their mistake. The solar cells were aprx. $65,000 plus the $10,000 to reinstall correctly.Since reinstallation, they have yet to produce enough to pay the monthly solar panel cost of $278 much less anything toward the electric bill.
It has been 7 months with no improvement and various excuses;
First I was told I was not on net metering when I was. Then I was told to wait a few months for them to cycle. I waited with no change. Then, a cable needed replacing. It was replaced and still no change. I called Enphase today and was told there was a problem. It has created financial hardship having to pay bills as high as $900 plus the $278/month cost of the cells. I want SUNERGY to remove the cells, use them elsewhere and reimburse me for what I paid.
Also, although not in writing:
I was told the cells were designed to produce the number of kilowatts I use sparing me rate increases and costing me only $15/month, a fee by FPL for net metering. (Not true)
I was told if I died my estate would not owe for the cells. (Not true)
My neighbor has 32 cells; I have 50 and he has zero electric bills plus the $15 fee for net metering.

Thank you for sending this complaint over to us. In this particular case, this ***************** warranty with ** had expired so if additional services where needed then a fee would be charged. I am rejecting this response because:I was never given in writing or told verbally that their service contract is two years. I just heard of this when ********* from customer care called me.
Please see correspondence in the form of attachments. Please add after last file:
Only a qualified attorney would be able to determine if their actions were fraudulent and if so, is it SUNERGYS custom and practice? I wonder if other standing seam roof installations have been done with roof penetrating screws to unsuspecting consumers possibly voiding their warranties and setting them up for potential leaks and property damage.
It also seems to me like price gouging during the ***** STATE OF EMERGENCY, They charged roughly $23,000 more than the high range of a 15 kilowatt solar system installation in *******.
Considering all the facts, I feel my money should be refunded and the panels removed. I also feel the ** should investigate this companys practices by interviewing other customers.
My neighbor used a different company and his electric bill, after costs, is a negative figure meaning the system is producing more than he is using and his house is approximately the same size as mine.
Sincerely,

Unfortunately in the early stages of this Customer's contract, it did not specifically detail the service warranty as well as it does now. in an effort to resolve this concern, we have sent out a resolution agreement that details we agree to waive the service fee as a one time exception. It was originally sent to the customer on 8/4/2023 then resent on 8/14/2023. To date, we have yet to receive this agreement back nor any questions from the customer.Customer Answer

Complaint: 20364757
I am rejecting this response because:1. Their proposal is not a solution. They propose to waive a service charge but charge me for parts and labor for a system that has never produced what, on average, a 15kw system should produce according to reliable sources. It has never worked properly since installed. They should repair it at NO CHARGE for the service fee; the parts and the labor.
I construe what they want me to sign as a contractural waiver of my rights. I feel I would be signing under duress as I do not agree with their solution and signing would be agreeing that I do. They should fix it and have it fully operational at their expense and I should not be required to sign anything.
There are more issues with this company beyond the scope of the panels working optimally.
1. I was overcharged $23,000 above the high range for a 15kw system. According to price range, I paid for a 25kw system and got a 15kw system that does not meet my needs.
2. I was not told by the sales team what number kilowatt system would be used. I was told it would be designed to produce the number of kilowatts I used such that I would only be paying for the $15 fee charged by FPL. They installed a 15kw system which, on average should produce 60 kw per day. Even if functioning flawlessly it would only reduce my electric bill by $9 over the $278 + $15 cost. If the tax credit was applied to principal, operating perfectly, it would only decrease the bill by $86.43.
Also, the sales team lied when they claimed the system would be paid off upon my death.
In my opinion and based on facts as I understand them:
I feel they price gouged, during a time of national crisis.
I paid in the range of a 25kw system and got a 15kw system.
They provided a 10 year warranty on workmanship and nothing stating there was only a 2 year service warranty. I feel the 10 year warranty on workmanship should be applicable since it has never worked properly.
Also, their initial installation damaged my roof and it was not installed in accordance with their engineers specifications.
i feel this company used deceptive business practices and should be investigated by the attorney general.
Sincerely,
*************************

I applied for solar panels with Sunergy on June 11, 2022. I still do not have operational panels as of July 19, 2023. There have been countless oversights, delays, and lack of attention to detail with this company. From June 11, 2022 until April 29, 2023 there was not any work being done to install the panels. There was delays from the ********************** as they would take months to work on plans that would eventually be denied. When Sunergy came to install my panels on April 29, 2023, my husband and I noticed that the box of panels said 26 panels and we then reviewed the plans on the property. The plans also indicated 26 panels, which was incorrect as the contract and loan agreement was for 28 panels. If my husband and I did not discover this we would have been paying for a inaccurate loan. I contacted the loan company, GoodLeap and informed of what was going on. I contacted Sunergy several times about it in which they finally advised they would install them on May 12, 2023. They were unable install them and did not inform me. I reviewed my roof and saw that the 2 missing panels were not there. Once again I contacted Sunergy and was advised that they could not install the panels because the layout had to be changed as the electrical connection was not supportive. They were finally installed on May 16th. Since the plans have been denied by the ***************. I am continuing to pay my electricity bill and the loan payment for the panels. I was advised I would receive imbursement for the loan and have not. I was inform 07/19 now the electrical panel needs to be updated. Sunergy appears to be incompetent and lacking attention to detail. The electrical panel should have been discovered from the start of this process back in June 2022. We have made countless calls and spent hours trying to resolve this situation for over a year now.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:
I have not received the reimbursement at this time. Additionally, you have not acknowledged that there are several delays throughout this process that has taken over a year. Updated plans have not been made since the last permit rejection on June 27, 2023. The permit was denied several times because no one took the initiative to follow up on what needed to be corrected. There is no sense of prioritizing at all with this company.I also was told yesterday that a new electrical panel needs to be installed. This was not caught upon applying for the solar program and should have been. This is going to create even more further delays.
I am also concerned with the competency of the staff that installed the panels. Workers were unable to speak English and I was unable to communicate with them unless through ****** translate. I am not sure how the plans can be read since they are in English.
At this point, you cannot safely say that it was installed correctly.

I contracted with Sunergy solar to install solar panels in April of 2023 they installed them May 5th 2023 it's now July 17th and I'm still waiting for them to provide the photos for the inspection to pass and to even schedule an inspection which I had to do myself with the ********************* but did not realize it's a tile roof and they need photos from sunergy. Around the end of April 2023, a young lady came to my door wanting to talk about solar panels. My husband and I sat down with her and she went through all the Q&A.Everything sounded great. We had been interested in solar panels for a while, but didn't want to deal with having a battery backup. May 2nd, we signed paperwork. Somewhere around the end of May, the panels were installed. So, the next step was hooking everything up and inspection with energy department. We have not heard from anyone since then. I have called multiple times with no answers to when things will be completed. Now the finance company wants us to start paying them. I spoke with a girl at the finance company and told her nothing is hooked up. So, we are unable to use the solar system and we are not going to pay anybody anything until it's up and running. She stated that we are paying for the equipment. I told her I understand that, but I am not going to pay them and our energy company until Sunergy decided to get things going. And I didn't know if it was going to be tomorrow, 6 months or a year from now, for Sunergy to hook it up . I do understood from the beginning, that we would have a few months of paying both. But, I'm not paying both bills for who knows how long. Because Sunergy won't get things going. The finance company put in a complaint for me. Whatever that is going to do. Calling Sunergy tomorrow and tell them to come get there equipment or get it hooked up ASAP. I'm so sick of the run around. I will probably be calling my Attorney General tomorrow, but I wanted to do this review first. Maybe the next person they try to sale to will read these reviews first. I wish I had reade these reviews before we started this project.Business Response

This company is a joke. We had a young man come to our house and present Sunergy. The young man (****) told us other companies will be coming around trying to scam us bc they can see we have a permit open on our roof. We didn't feel good about that so the next day we tried to contact our representative ****, with no response. We tried contacting him for a week, with no response. We got a hold of a colleague of his, he said he would let corporate know we are not getting a response. We contact corporate, they could not help us with canceling, they said **** had to do it. So after 2 weeks of trying to get ahold of ****, he finally contacts us from a different number he provided us on. He apologized for the wrong number he provided to us but says bc we are out of our 3 day cancelation, we have a $3000 cancelation fee. He still won't call us back after he told us he would speak with management. We will not be paying any cancelation fee when we were giving wrong contact information and it is not our fault that corporate cannot make cancelations. I did my duty and tried to cancel in the correct amount of time. Your sale team needs to do better. I have told many people about this company and to stay awayBusiness Response

I live in a ************************* where Soliciting and canvassing is strictly forbidden in the Articles of Incorporation and ByLaws. There is a large sign at the entrance to the community stating this.Yesterday a young man came to my home at 7:36PM under the guise of following up on a mailer sent to me. I informed him he was in a deed restricted community and not permitted to solicit any residents. He ignored me. Again I advised him to leave and he ignored me. A third time he finally turned around and walked away when I told him I was going to call the Sheriff as he was trespassing on my property. However 3 minutes later he appeared in my Ring Cameras turning back and walking to other houses in the community.Clearly this business does not respect homeowners and their rights to privacy or the restrictions placed on their business for unwanted solicitations. They have not trained their employees to walk away and STAY AWAY when told to do so.The entire interaction was recorded on several Ring CamerasBusiness Response

We signed up for solar panels. On May 17, 2023 they were installed (no permit posted as of July 3, 2023 although it is of record). They negligently installed the panels resulting in water damage to our ceiling, they drilled holes through our new roof and didn't repair them immediately. Didn't put the panels into the beams but into the wood planks itself in the roof. ZERO response for 3 days during heavy rains. FOUR different teams came out and they plugged up the holes on the 4th attempt. Electrical damage and still no results of the mold test for the water damage after 3 weeks. They sent an inspector out today and lo and behold the inspector couldn't inspect because it was not completed and the permit wasn't posted so he did not know what he needed to inspect. Most of their management and supervisory team was fired this past week so he had ZERO support to help us, the customer. Called customer service all morning and after 5 phone disconnects blamed on their IT, speaking to 4 different customer service people (one of which told the inspector to inspect without the permit which is illegal to do), I finally was able to speak to ********* who was very nice and assured me it would get fixed. He is the 10th supervisor/manager I've spoken with over the last 2 months who "swear" it will be made right. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. If we do not have this mitigated with the information and procedures followed we will be filing a civil complaint in court as the total for the panels are almost $30,000 that we are now having to pay on as well as our current increasing electrical bill.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:
It has been 2 business days, not including the weekend and no response. I emailed 3 times since the July 7th morning inspection, called and left 4 messages between July *****. Still no response. I received the mold report which confirmed there is now mold in our ceiling. The broken panel was never fixed nor reinstalled meaning that the former manager and prior teams lied to us. We were told by the inspector on 7/7 that someone would be here 7/8 to work on our issues and no one showed up. Yet another day we rearranged our schedule and still nothing resolved. Btw I am allergic to the mold in the ceiling and it has been medically documented for years. It is 7/11/23 and ********* was supposed to return my call today as per the customer service man I spoke to over the phone. Still no return call for 2 business days.Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because:This is the 2nd BBB complaint submitted regarding this address and the negligent practices of this company. The roof is still not repaired. They drilled holes through the roof/ceiling and didn't patch it or repair or replace the roof they damaged. Mold has been confirmed in our roof/ceiling. After MULTIPLE calls, emails, and teams come out to "repair" the damage they did, they offered to have US pay for a new roof at a reduced price using their company. It is STILL leaking. It is NOT REPAIRED after 8 months. They have NOT done anything to remediate it and make whole the damage they have done to our property that actually works. They negligently put panels on a flat roof after saying it was okay to do so. That has resulting in pooling of rain water and debris, mold, wood rot to our roof and beams, notwithstanding the cosmetic issues. WE remediated the mold and repainted only to have the silicone gel they used to "repair" the damage not hold and we currently have more damage and leakage to our roof. THEY HAVE YET TO REMEDIATE OR REPAIR IT PROPERLY AND NOW OUR HOME WILL NEED A NEW ****!!!!
REPLACE THE **** and install the panels properly as initially indicated.
Sincerely,

Thank you for sending this complaint to us. Sunergy has been attempting to work with this customer for quite some time to address her concerns about the leaking roof. In an effort to resolve these concerns, we sent our repair crew on three separate occasions: May 29, 2023; June 5, 2023; and December 14, 2023, to investigate the cause of the leaks and make necessary repairs resulting from the solar installation. Each visit determined that the root cause of the leak was due to how her roofer installed the flat roof section (the area of the leaks). To prevent potential damage in the future, the roofer should have installed a drainage system or slightly tilted the roof to prevent water from pooling, but unfortunately, this was not done.
Before the solar system installation, there were visible algae stains on the roof, indicating water had pooled and sat for an extended period. Reviewing the photos taken after each visit, it's evident that the roof seams have split, a condition not caused by Sunergy's installation. The contract signed by the customer explicitly states that ******************** is not liable for any damage caused by pre-existing roof conditions. Despite multiple explanations to the customer, she continues to believe that ******************** is solely responsible for the damage.
It's essential to note that, regardless of the solar system installation, the customer would still have experienced leaking due to how the roof was initially installed.
Although the root cause of the leaks is unrelated to the solar system installation, Sunergy remains committed to assisting the customer. During each visit, we made repairs to address the leaking; however, these repairs were not effective due to the overall condition of the roof. Sunergy has offered to waive the removal and reinstall fee (valued at $3,600.00) so that the customer can have the roof section replaced by a roofer of her choosing. If the customer prefers to use our in-house roofing company, we can provide a discount for the services.

I am rejecting this response because:they Are using an old picture as a reference from before we purchased the home. I replied back that the holes they drilled into the roof and through my ceiling had nothing to do with the roof installation but everything to do with their negligent installation. Their installation also pulled the seam apart from the roof causing rot, mold and further damage to our home. They want US to pay them $3800 to replace that roof. Its disgusting and deceptive how they treat their clients. They want us to spend more money to have them what damage our roof more? Their actions are criminally negligent and abusive. They are not equipped to work on flat roofs. They do have trained skilled laborers who know how to install on a flat roof. They said it happened from a poor installation but the installation included the holes from their laborers who never fixed it right and had to come out multiple times only to keep repeating with every new group that it wasnt installed right. We want them to repair our roof to where it was before we ever met Sunergy. They are a horrible, lying, negligent, deceptive entity who prey on disabled people with fixed incomes. They will not be getting one more red cent from us after they criminally damaged our home (which was working fine before Synergy showed up with their criminal ways and damaged our home putting us at risk.
again. The pictures are from before we purchased the purchased the home. There was zero damage to the roof based on appraisals and VA inspectors at the time of closing, as well as a home insurance inspector who inspected the roof after Hurricane ***. Sunergy are liars and their response is disgusting. So unless professions who actually have an interest in preserving the property are all liars then I can only conclude that Sunergy continues with its deceptive practices to avoid taking responsibility for the damage they caused our home.
Sincerely,
