Since installing Solar on my home I have had three leaks in my roof. The first two were repaired under Bison's 5 year warrenty on solar and installation. During 2024 I had Bison install custom flashing to prevent leaks in my roof through the 1 x 1 foot holes cut into my barrel tile roof to install each solar footer. The most recent leak reported after Bison installed flashing around 8/2024 was reported on 12/18/2024. The damage was reviewed and estimated, but Bison refused to cover it under their 5 year warranty since my solar system had been modified to install batteries to my system. Bison does not offer batteries and the installation of batteries does not change the construction, installation or roofing and should not void the warranty. The repair is minor, but continues to leak into the home, ceiling and is now causing discoloration in my ceiling. Contacting the Solar Manager, Roofing Manager does not resolve the problem. On September 9/20/2019 I executed a contract with Bison Roofing and Solar to install solar on my home. The IN SERVICE DATE is after 01/29/2020 when permit was issued by the city of *******. The roofing repair falls within the 5 year warranty period for IN SERVICE DATE and warranty on the executed agreement as follows, " Additionally, Bison Roofing & Solar warrants your roof against damage and water infiltration at each roofing penetration made by Bison Roofing & Solar for a period of five (5) years."The repair should be covered under warranty. Especially since this is the third incident resulting in leaking from the installation.

The customer voided his warranty according to our contract terms by having a third-party work on the system. In addition, the leak he has on the roof is from a vent pipe and is not related to the solar system. We gave the customer a reasonable quote to do the repair to which he declined.

I am rejecting this response because:

The contract terms noted by Bison do not cover specific workmanship on installation during warranty, but the solar system.  Additionally, Bison claims that the leak is from the Roof Stack.  This is incorrect, the Bison Roofer was not sure where it was from.  Subsequent to further issues with Bison I hired another Roofer that has fixed the leak, noted that it was not with the roof stack, but the solar mount(s) and underlayment due to vermin and not sealing back the roof tile.   Additionally, they found issues with the flashing installed by Bison not meeting code, loose fitting without being attached or pinched in place on several areas potentially becoming airborne during a windstorm.

After my initial complaint, Bison informed me that they would not fix the problem and refund me after I paid unless (1) I agreed to delete my complaint with the BBB, (2) signed a legal document to agree not to take action for any customer review that may be deemed as negative and (3) still pay to repair the leak.  Bison told me they would refund my money minus credit card fees.   I have since disputed the change and voided the partial refund check to avoid increasing expenses with Bison.

Amended to my concern now is refunding the amount that I had to spend with another contractor when Bison tried to strong arm me into having them repair the leak in my roof.  Under advisement from other roofing companies, I am going to replace my roof to seal the entire roof, remove the large penetrations in the tiles, since the roof has been subject to large amounts of water for several years and damaging pests that have nested under the tiles in 3 separate occasions.

    Sincerely,

In response to Mr. **** complaint, we want to reiterate that his warranty was voided when he had a third-party work on the solar system.Additionally, the roof leak he is experiencing is due to a vent stack on the roof, which was not part of our scope of work when installing the solar array.

It is also important to note that preexisting rodent damage beneath the array had already been addressed by our team in 2022. Despite these factors, we still provided Mr. *** with a fair and reasonable quote for the necessary repairs. However, he declined this offer both before and after submitting this complaint.

We remain committed to providing quality service but cannot be held responsible for issues unrelated to our work or for damages caused by third parties.

On 3/13/23 I signed a contract with Bison Roofing to replace my roof. The contract included removing & reinstalling my gutters, installing Sharkskin Ultra Radiant underlayment, a ridge vent, tapering my flat roof to 2:12 & installing a metal roof over the entire thing - INCLUDING the newly tapered flat roof. Total cost $33,500. 3/14 I gave them a cashier's check for $13,400 downpayment. They then came back & said they couldn't remove & reinstall the gutters. Next, they said they couldn't use the Sharkskin underlayment. Then they said that because my flat roof was tarped & leaking it would need to be torn off - an additional $3712. I told them it was NOT leaking & was only "tarped" because I had my roof shrink wrapped & you can't shrink wrap 1/2 a roof. 4/5, they came out and did a roof ************** was told (in a text) "Flat roof does NOT need to be removed, PASSED inspection". 4/6, I received a call saying they wanted to drill a hole in my flat roof to "check it". 4/7, I texted them to just go ahead & do the entire thing. But asked "All metal, right? That's what you promised". His response was "Yea Metal". 4/9, I received a change order for "FLAT ROOF REMOVAL". 4/18 I was told they don't do ridge vents on metal roofs. I argued & they finally agree to do a ridge vent. 6/10 Permits approved & I gave them the next payment of $9,000. 7/17 a man dropped off roofing supplies & told me he would be the one doing the roof. He also said they were NOT tapering my flat roof and putting metal on it even though IT'S IN THE CONTRACT!! I called the agent & was told change order was to remove & replace the flat roof with a new flat roof because my flat roof was "so bad". Don't forget that on 4/5 it "passed inspection". Also, the change order did NOT say "replace with new flat roof". 7/28 I told them that if they weren't going to honor the contract, I want my money back. They immediately picked up their supplies & I haven't heard from them since. Where's my money?
