Cost of care, front desk professionalism, and billing department communication.For a routine check up of my skin, I was charged $503.73. After insurance.After extensively talking to the front desk preventatively, who was blatantly impatient, and visibly frustrated that she couldn't calculate an estimated cost of my preventative visit she inaccurately calculated that my visit was going to be ******. I started going to Waters Edge dermatology in December 2023. I made a deposit to go specifically for IPL. I had some brown spots on my face and arms I wanted to have removed. They stated this was only done in their ********** location. I left a deposit over the phone for my first appointment. I started seeing Dr ****** This is considered a cosmetic procedure so insurance does not cover this. They require you to pay each time. Typical for cosmetic procedures. At or around March I received a bill for ******* I had an up coming appointment still. The bill stated I owed ****** for Fraxel and ****** for something additional. I collected all my payments, from various cc and debit cards, which I had used to make payments. I had called and stated I had paid with each appointment and that I had never had Fraxel. So confused how they can try and charge me for something I never had!Surely there is a medical record that can be quickly checked??? My husband is a ** I am a nurse.Even the physician should Know? Also scheduling appointments, there should be so many records. I had to mail in all the payments I made .I did so although it was very time consuming. I still continued to receive bills. Each time I called they were taking care of it! About a month ago (still receiving bills) I called again. Although I had asked to speak with the manager she wanted to help me. I went through the whole thing again. Asked her to check the medical records **s note, never had fraxel and paid that ****** on my last visit.I had cancelled the last appointment I had because this is so scary and I was done. That lady transferred me to get a refund. The last attempt I again sent it my proof on my **************** card and she said she got it and would get this resolved.I just received a statement from the collection agency. called again. She sees the payment was made no one checked the medical records and she is going to resolve this. They were all going to follow up. No call ever!Business Response

Thank you so much much for assisting me in this matter. I did indeed here from Waters Edge Dermatology.
I received a apology and a verbal response that this would be taken care of. however, I do not want to sign off on my complaint as of yet. This has been going on for 10 months and I has many verbal responses that it would be taken of. I did ask for a formal letter indicating this and I received no response. So because of the history with this company and no follow up with a written confirmation as I requested I am still not confident this indeed has been taken off.

Since January I had 3 appointments with waters edge dermatology. One of those appointments I had a procedure done. At every appointment I asked before I went in if I would owe and money or co payment because I was unable to pay anything due to issues with money at home taking care of my disabled father. Every single time they said I did not owe anything. A few months later I recieved a email that states I owe them I believe ****** give or take. I called and they said it was a mistake that they didn't tell me that I owe them money but I still have to pay it. I told the woman that I could not pay it and I was told I would owe nothing because of my insurance. I also told her that I wouldn't have had the procedure done because money was tight. They lied to me so they could charge me for a service. Now I'm being threatened with my bill going to collections and having to deal with that. I only received one email and that was the week of Aug 4th. Less than a month away they will be sending me to collections. Not sure how they operate like this but it's wrong. If they would have told me there was a charge after procedure I would have waited to have it done. Their lies are going to cost me now.Business Response

The transaction occurred on 4/17/23, where I paid $112.45 at the dermatology practice. I was then billed a balance of $58.51, where I noticed I was coded for a level 4 visit (*****). I called and emailed multiples times attempting to resolve the issue. I stated there must have been a mistake as I was only there for mild facial acne where I was prescribed a topical prescription (which I asked for) and then left. I remained fully dressed the entire time, the provider saw me for less than 10 minutes, no procedures were performed, no referrals were made, and no other issues were addressed. A level 2 visit is a fair code for the services that were rendered, however they have not attempted to resolve the issue and instead responded I have chronic illnesses? I am a completely healthy 30-year-old with mild facial acne. Upcoding fraud at its finest.Business Response

I had a bill sent to collections and I never received any bills at my address on file. The office never tried to call me or email me. I had paid a prior **** and when I spoke to the billing person she stated you no longer have ang balances with **. Yesterday I get a bill from collections stating I owed them money. Meanwhile I never received these letters that they are claiming they sent to my old address. They never not once tried any other form of communication to try and inform me that I owed this bill either. They are super unprofessional.Business Response

I have been trying for several months to get my medical records from Water's Edge Dermatology in *****, **. I have moved out of state and need my records for my new dermatologist and the Water's Edge Dermatology office in *****, ** will NOT release my records to me or my PCP. My PCP in **********, ** has provided 3 different fax numbers and they still won't send my records. Water's Edge Dermatology is being very unprofessional and uncooperative. Shame on them! I have filled out the necessary forms, they NEVER returned my many phone requests and I even went to the office in person and still no luckBusiness Response

I apologize for the delay as we did not receive an alert from BBB for this complaint. The requests were completed twice in November of last year with fax confirmations received in both attempts. Both parties were contacted 4/18/23 and requests have been fulfilled again.
