On August 13, 2024 an electrician came to my home to check my microwave and fuse box. My microwave had started tripping the fuse every time I tried to use it. The microwave was on a dedicated fuse. The electrician told me the charge to trouble shoot a microwave/fuse box problem was $399.00. I gulped, but told him to go ahead. I showed him where the fuse box was and he turned on the microwave. The switch tripped. After making a phone call, he told me he was going to check my house for surge protection. After his inspection, he sat down and made a lengthy sales pitch for an annual surge protection plan. I declined. After a while, he told me that it a fuse problem and for $120.00 additional he would go to Lowes and buy a new fuse. i agreed. After he returned, he replaced the fuse an gave me verbal quote of $519.00. I gave him my credit card and he left. Thinking my microwave was working, I attempted to use it. It blew the fuse! I then called the electrician who was in his car and told him what had happened. He returned and said the problem was my microwave. That his company did not do appliances. He left. I called Familys Choice and complained and told the secretary I was calling the bank to stop payment on my charge. She then persuaded me to wait and talk to the owner. A man then called me and offered to refund me the $120 for the switch which I didnt need. However after thinking over the sequence of events, I realized that I had paid $399 to troubleshoot my microwave/switch problem but in fact I was the one who had diagnosed the problem. So I was stuck with no microwave and a new switch which I didnt need. And I was out $399.00. I would like a refund of $399.00.
