I went to Midas to get my truck looked at and to get a diagnostic check. The check engine light recently turned on and it was shaking when hitting the gas. I was told it was a little low on oil, which they topped off, then told their machine was giving codes that my coils were misfiring and needed changed. I asked if I got this work done, would it take care of the issue? Yes, I was told and advised to change all eight of them. So figuring this will make my truck run better, I requestEd for the work to be done. Once it was done, I drove it home, next morning, the light came on again. Took it back and since the coils have a lifetime warranty, the changed the two that needed changed. Took it home again, same issue, this time they replaced it with better coils. Took it hone, had to return it once again, they couldn't figure it out. They said the owner mentioned it could be the sensors. They said they would change them free of charge due to all the issues with the coils. I took the truck back again, with the light on once again, spoke to the employee when I dropped it off. I told him I was told to drop it off and that my light was back on once again. He said they would look at it. I called later that day to see if my truck was ready and status on it, I was told there was nothing else they can do for me? Even though my coils, which I was told would fix my issues and have a lifetime warranty are not working right. Now, I am out $1100 on work I was told would fix my issue. Wasn't told it may help, wasn't told there might be other work needed, no. I was told, it would fix the issue!!! Now, I haven't faith in Midas, my coils arethrowing the same codes as before meaning the need to be replaced again. They should not have to get changed three times in over a week. So I definitely feel I was promised a fix without them even knowing that that would fix the issue. Issue was never fixed at all and should definitely be given a refund. Be very careful with what they say can be fixed

MIDAS just received this complaint on Friday, than files a complaint with the BBB?  Guest does not even give the owner time to interview the employees who worked on his truck to get their side of the story which I did on Monday (the day this was filed with the BBB).

Guest did bring his F150 to the shop, his check engine light was on.  It was codes for a tune-up AND was not just a little low on oil but we added 1 1/2 quarts of oil for FREE for this gentlemen as well.  This engine was also making noise and running rough.  These engine designs use a special spark plug that require a special tool to remove which we have and the guest was aware of these style plugs and the tool that helps remove these plugs easier.  He was talking to my technician about them in fact.  Now, usually a tune up would consist of coil packs AND spark plugs but this guest informed the service writer as well as my technician he just did the plugs (which is why he knows about the design and tool that helps removing them) so he declined plugs and coil packs only.  We did solve this gentlemen's problem and his check engine light was off, although the next day the check engine light came back on for a misfire again.  We warrantied out the coil packs for him under the assumption of his plugs being changed a short time ago (see previous sentence where the guest told service writer and technician he just did the plugs.  Again, problem was resolved and check engine light off and customer left.  Shortly after he left, the check engine light came back on for misfire so after my technician started to press more information the spark plugs were done a year and half ago and who knows how many miles ago, not just a short while ago.  To fix his truck properly he needed plugs and coil packs but being this gentleman was not quite forthcoming to us about the plugs being in the vehicle for a long while we only installed the coil packs (because, afterall, why would anyone lie to a technician and service writer who is trying to fix this gentleman's truck).  If we are not told the entire story how are we supposed to fix the truck properly?

After hearing what this guy's complaint was, what type of guest he was and not being forthcoming on the truth of his recent spark plug swap and how he is driving around low on oil and his truck making engine noise, I told the shop yesterday before getting this BBB filing emailed to me to refund the guest's money because this is not a guest we want at a MIDAS shop.  We want truthful, honest guests, not a guest who try to lie their way through life.  He can come to the shop and get his refund, I will even let him keep the coil packs we installed in his truck - consider it his Christmas present from MIDAS.  After he gets his refund he is to never step foot in a MIDAS shop in ***** again as again he is not a truthful guest.

I am usually a compassionate and understanding man, but when I hear stories that just are not true and they reach out to the BBB or talk to corporate about my team trying to throw them under the bus, I am sorry - it is not worth it to try to resolute their problem and fix their vehicles.  MIDAS will gladly refund his money as soon as we open at 7:30.

7/2/2022 I had Midas Bleed the brakes on a **** Jeep Wrangler. After paying them for the job, I found out I was over charged for the job that another Midas estimated for me. They charged me $354 for a job that another Midas shop charges $99. They lied to me and said it was a special procedure. They told a different lie to my credit card company that they replaced a part that was not replaced. The labor charge was made up as no part number was listed as being removed or replaced as per standard shop labor charge practices. I've tried to work this out with the manager to no avail. The business is name is Midas *****************************************************************************

The technician that worked on the vehicle as well as the service advisor that worked with the guest tell me that we had to tighten some brake lines that the guest initially installed before bringing the vehicle to the shop.  That is the reason for the additional labor line on the ticket.  The reason their is no part under the labor line is because we did not supply a part, we attached the guests part correctly and then charged him for the brake bleed.  We had to attach the guests part properly before bleeding the brakes, this is the reason he had a soft pedal when he brought the vehicle to us.  I would like to add, the other shops estimate for a brake bleed was also from *****, I am located in ******* and pricing is different between the states, however, the additional charge in question is for reattaching the part the guest installed improperly before bringing the vehicle to the shop.

We have spoken to the guest about this and have told him it was not just a simple brake bleed.  He agreed to the price before we did any of the work and paid for the work done to his vehicle when we were completed.

      Complaint: 18021831

I am rejecting this response because:

The brake lines were installed correctly and the lines would have to be loosened and tightened, what is normally done when brakes are bled. I was not given an estimate prior to the work as I trusted that I would not be gouged on the price. Price differences are not $254 more expensive in ******* than they are in *****. I only want $254 returned to me which is a fair price considering work was started at 8am and I received a call at 10am, two hours later, that my vehicle was ready. I will continue to notify other customers on this companies review pages of this companies work practices until my money is returned.

      Sincerely,
