This company repossessed my car and auctioned it back in February. I am owed a balance of $6900 from them after settling my loan and the sale of my vehicle. Ive been attempting to get a holdof them for months now to get my money from them and every time I speak to them I get some reason why they cant send to me or that its moving to a different department and every time I try to contact that department I get no reply. And now every time I call the company I sit on hold for up to an hour, and I am under the impression that they areignoring my attempts to communicate with them.Initial Complaint

The incident occured on April 30, 2025 at the Loan Max located ********************************* ************************. Myself and my mother **** ****** went into the loaction for a title loan for my 2022 ****** Sentra SV for a total of ***** dollars. I own this vehicle and paid ********* after the settlement from my little sister's wrongful death. I am currently a student and have no income therefore my mother agreed to get the loan temporarily due to unforseen health issues regarding my daughter Nikayla age 15. The check that Loan Max issued did not clear with my mother's bank account with Nusenda Credit resulting in Nusenda taking three weeks of her paychecks totaling $637.85 to cover the bounced check. We contacted the Loan Max staff and provided copies of the banking details and requested to no longer get the loan as it took almost three weeks for the company's check to clear. The loan was for ***** and the remainder of that totaled ****** which was offered to them but was asked for ******* by the 30th of May. The inconvienence from start unit now is extortion and a violation of consumer right's in **********. Loan Max was offered the cashier's check but they wanted ****** more than the original agreed amount of the loan. I filed a complaint with the ******************************** regarding the details provided and was followed up with **** from the *****. He said that he would send a letter to Loan Max regarding the allegations against the company in question. My mother took the cashiers check May 30, 2025 for the ****** as a payment to maintain good standings until an agreement in reached in this matter.Business Response

The company operates in strict compliance with state and federal laws and has committed no wrongdoing. ******************* did not release the check proceeds to her, she should follow up with her bank. There were no issues with the company's check. The company is sorry that Ms. ****** is upset, but any delay in receiving her receiving the proceeds were caused by her bank, not the company.Initial Complaint

Good afternoon,In a emergency before my wedding day I pulled a Title loan from Titlemax in August 16th ******* was for $8,900 and to this day every month I pay $1,433.12 - $1,644.57, the amount still totals to over $10k.On January 22nd 2025 at 2:02pm, my personal vehicle (2019 ****** Camry LE) was towed due to a payment that was missed by accident as I had assumed it went through. After 15 minutes of realizing it was towed, I called all around and was advised it was by Titlemax in which I called to make the payment and have it released.I was told to come into the office, so I had to Uber an hour to their office from **** to Spring.Paid in person and was told I will have to wait 1 week to pick up my car at ****Picked up the vehicle on January 29th 2025 leaving work early to make it in time at 3:59pm is when I found my car would not start, noticed the splashguard was hanging and dragging underneath the vehicle, I sat inside only to realize it was completely wet inside, including the passenger seat and the rear seats, even the trunk was wet with a strong mildew smell. I opened a claim with *** only to be told this is with Titlemax but TItlemax will not take responsibility and says it is ***. Both organizations will not take responsibility. I have photos and videos from the beginning to the time of pick up. This had worried me of my health and expenses to remove any future corrosion underneath the car's carpet/connectors/wiring/airbags/etc... Mold is something that worries me the most. They broke into the driver's front door, bending and causing damages to the paint, very visible.I continued to be patient with Titlemax to this day they still are delaying any assistance and not helping. Please if possible I would really like to have this matter resolved or come to a agreement.Thank you - ******* **** **************Business Response

I am filing this complaint regarding a title loan I received from LoanStar Title Loans approximately a year ago. Since taking out the loan, I have made consistent paymentsthough occasionally latebut I have now paid over $5,000, which is far more than I originally borrowed or than the vehicle is worth. Despite this, the loan is still not resolved, and *** had to refinance multiple times due to the balloon payment structure that I was not fully made aware of at the ********* the time I signed for the loan, the repayment structure, especially the balloon payment, was not clearly explained. I only truly understood the process after I refinanced the first time and questioned why the loan hadnt been paid off. A representative at the ******, ** location then clearly explained the terms, but unfortunately, that level of transparency was not present during the original agreement. While I want to stress that the staff at the ************* have been kind and respectful, I am struggling under the weight of this loan. The repeated refinancing and balloon payments make it nearly impossible to complete the loan under fair terms. This feels predatory, especially in todays difficult economic climate.I am seeking a resolution or settlement option that would allow me to close this account in good standing. I believe I have paid well beyond what is reasonable for the loan I received, and Im simply asking for fairness and relief.Business Response

Thank you for notifying the company of Ms. ****** grievance. We appreciate this opportunity to respond.
An investigation of the complaint proved the company committed no wrongdoing. The total cost of Ms. ****** loan, including the fees and interest, were explained to her by the companys personnel, and moreover, clearly disclosed in large, bold print on the loan documents in compliance with the Federal Truth and Lending Act. Based on the monthly income and expense information that Ms. ****** entered on her application, the loans scheduled monthly payments were within her ability to repay. At no time did Ms. ****** indicate that she was confused about the terms of the loan.
A review of Ms. ****** accounts reveals that, instead of paying off her loans in full when due, she elected to submit the minimum amounts needed to refinance the contracts. Also, she did not submit all her monthly payments in a timely manner, causing her to incur late fees. As explained to Ms. ******* she could always submit more than the minimum monthly amount due in order to reduce her outstanding principal balance. The company encourages customers to pay off ********************** in a short period of time in order to reduce the amount of interest and fees paid.
Notwithstanding the above, the company is a customer focused business and was sorry to learn that Ms. ****** was upset. Therefore, in a good faith effort to resolve this matter and in light of the total payments submitted, the company has agreed to settle Ms. ****** account for a reduced amount. The office supervisor, ******* tried to call ********* to discuss the settlement, but was unable to reach her. With that said,Ms. ****** should call the LoanStar office where she obtained her loan at ************* by May 23, 2025, to take advantage of the companys offer.
Thank you again for your assistance in this matter, as well as the opportunity to respond.Customer Answer

I took out a title loan (my 3rd one with this company) around Christmas 2024. They contacted me via telephone and said I would refinance my current loan and take out a total of $1,500. I agreed, with the intent to pay this off with my year end bonus (which comes after Christmas).Unfortunately, my husband 's work hours were reduced significantly, and we were unable to repay this loan. To date, I have repaid $1,282 on this new loan, but am finding it harder and harder to make the payments without sacrificing buying groceries, utility bills or having to pay our mortgage payment late. My outstanding balance for this loan is $1,788.60. I would like to request that the company work with me to come to a mutually beneficial alternative payment arrangement. I am unable to pay the entire $1,788.60 balance, but as a customer who has been a customer 2 times before (with late payments I know), I just want do right and put this loan behind me. Any help would be appreciated. ~ *******Business Response

I paid off my loan 15 days ago and still havent given not received my title with lien removed. They give me the run around and say they are discussing it with the area manager which is a man named ***** but apparently they arent speaking to him regarding the situation. They are lying and being very unethical. I just want my title as I satisfied the loan and want to sell my car.Business Response

The company committed no wrongdoing. Ms. ****** title was apparently lost in the mail. The company has no control over the **** Postal Service. Nonetheless, the Area Manager reached out to Ms. **** and has overnighted her a lien release and a check to cover the cost of a replacement title. With that said, the company considers Ms. ****** account closed and will assume the same with regards to this matter, unless you should need anything further.Initial Complaint

My 05 explorer's transmission went out in February 2024 and I call and informed them and tell them that I did not have the money to fix it that they should come get it. Last Friday March 28th at 4:30 a.m. they show up and take my vehicle which that's fine. But when I called them on Monday to get my stuff out of it they said they would call back and I still haven't heard from them. They've not tried to call me the first time about a payment for it. And every time I say they're going to call me back I never receive a call back.Business Response

They did not disclose to me a balloon payment that was on the loan nor did they provide the loan in good faith. I asked young lady if I could pay the loan off early and she said yes. She said the finance charges were based on when payment was made. No one in the right mind would have a balloon payment, which is the fifth payment $800 over the amount of the initial loan. They have cameras, and I would really appreciate some help with this. I was completely misled. They show you a paper with a presumed loan and then it is completely different than the actual paperwork. They just flip papers and dont tell you what is on it.Business Response

Thank you for notifying the company of Mr. ****** complaint. We appreciate this opportunity to respond.
The company operates in strict compliance with state and federal laws and has committed no wrongdoing. On December 3, 2024, Mr. ***** borrowed $3,033.00. As shown on his contract that he attached to the complaint, the total cost of the loan and its repayment schedule were fully and clearly disclosed to him as required by the Federal Truth and Lending Act. Also in a separate form that ******** signed, call the Notice to Borrower form, the company warned, in big bold print, that the loan was a costly way to borrow money and encouraged him to seek other alternatives. Based on the monthly income and expense information that Mr. ***** entered on his application, the loans scheduled monthly payments were within his ability to repay. Mr. ***** was not rushed and at no time did he indicate that he was confused about the terms of the loan. A review of Mr. ****** account reveals that to date, he has submitted two minimum monthly payments. As explained to Mr. ****** he can always pay more than the minimum amount due or he could pay off the loan early which will significantly reduce the amount of interest and fees paid.
Notwithstanding the above, the company is always willing to try and assist its customers. With that said, if Mr. ***** would like to discuss a mutually beneficial alternative payment arrangement, he can contact the companys Assistant General Counsel, ******** at ************ by February 21,2025.
Thank you again for your assistance with this matter and the opportunity to respond.
