I submitted a past due bill for a withdrawal for my son. Principal denies it saying its outdated. Well its in collections and on my credit report. Not my fault I didnt get another bill. Then ** told that I have to prove my son is my biological son? What? This company is incompetent and insane. Oh and then they copied my private business to my company. Breach of privacy. They must be getting sued by so many people. I have to submit my childs birth certificates to prove they are my kids? Really? Also it took them 17 days to tell me this. Dont even bother calling. They will log your complaint and get back to you five hours later. I just want my funds and I shouldnt have to go through this to get them. Ill never contribute another cent to this company and will be getting my own private 401K where my business isnt shared and my privacy isnt breached.

Absolutely terrible company. Made an election to cash out money from an ESOP from a previous employer on the 5th of July. Initially I was told that it could take between **** days after the election window closed on the 31st of July. Election window closed and 10 days went by, not once was I informed that it might take longer. I reached out to Principal asking if there had been any issues and what the status of my election was, I was then informed by Principal that it is supposed to deposit into my bank account in "mid-August" (keep in mind I reached out on the 14th of August, so already mid-August); I followed up and asked if there was a more accurate date and the response was that "mid-August" was an approximate date as there are many factors to consider such as the amount of elections, ect.So let me get this straight, there is an election period of about a month and nothing gets done to prepare to deposit money within that month, just sit around and wait until the election period closes. I understand that changes can occur during the election period, but there should have been some preparation. In my situation all you are doing is moving money from one account to other, I'm confused as to why that takes so long; additionally if I'm in a queue or something can your systems not predict a more accurate timeline, rather than "mid-August". The other issue I have is, is how hard is it to communicate with customers, if you know processes are backed up maybe, you know communicate that information; I mean I have an email account. I feel like I'm just getting the run-around from this supposed "professional" financial company.

I submitted for a hardship Aug 5, today is the 17th, no response, via email or phone. I call and keep being told theyre behind and it hasnt even been assigned a processor yet. I was told could take up to 14 days just to get assigned a processor, nothing about a hardship should take this long. I was told by a different rep it could take 21 days because theyre behind. This is not the customer fault, hirer more processors, I really dis-like this company, this is the worst experience with a 401K company ever, I believe they really dont want to help

Principal is a terrible company with abhorrent and invasive questionnaires regarding disability confirmation. Not only were they way behind on approval and therefore payment, they also questioned why my illness was getting worse, as if mental health and physical pain are simply static.I wasn't ready to go back to work, but their latest questionnaire would have cost me another appointment for the doctor to simply fill out their paperwork.Run to your HR and tell them to find a different company.

Can't provide me with proof of my 401K rollover. They sent the funds to my savings acct verses my *** account which I specifically requested for when I filled out the request.

Horrible customer service. I applied for a hardship withdrawal for my son's tuition with the required documentation. I called numerous times for status updates. Approaching 15 days out, finally, I called again and a rep said the application was not approved. Never received an email nor calls as to why or a status update. Everyone please read reviews about a company because they are true representations and experiences. I am pulling MY money out. I have learned my ****** to not give my money to a company where I am not a valued customer.

Do not put "YOUR" money here. My car was stolen that was not considered a hardship? Recently received a 5 day eviction notice and guess what I put in a hardship claim they need this and that. No I need "MY" money. I was just borrowing "MY" money to get a grip on life. *** actually told me to cash out my 401K I would have to quit my job? Now I'm calling my corporate office and pitching a fit and I hope Principal loses every single account they have through the company I work for. And yeah it's not a Taco stand We are huge. And when I call and tell them about all I've been through and how hard it's been trying to get to "MY" money I'm pretty sure they will reconsider replacing this company.

Agree with the same issues listed from all of these negative reviews. Worst experience working with banking institution and 401k retirement group. Incorrect ************************** given multiple times when dealing with 401k rollover to traditional *** after being laid off. Were slow, and argumentative over the phone, refused multiple times to help me gain access to online account which was required to verify identity and close account. Not helpful at all. Costing even more fees. Do not use this company

I was with Trugreen which is one of the worst companies to work for and when I was let go they wouldnt process my 40k payment because they said ******** hasnt processed my date of termination and I would have to wait 30 days for my money to be sent but has already processed my coworkers payment. Never put your money into Principal or you will be mad.

I asked for a cash out since I left the company that I was working for. I had a lengthy conversation about my options with customer support at *******************************************. I choose to cash out my money. The amount I would receive after taxes was given. After a few days had gone, I called to check the status. I was informed that they paid my former employer. Why my money was sent to the employer rather than my bank account was a mystery to them. Do not do business with the company, please. My former employer has no knowledge of any money being sent to them.
